Is PES2008 really that bad

Getting this game tmrw, but after reading some comments on here, is it really that bad? Some reviews have given it a really high score? Are the slowdown problems really noticable and do they make the game unplayable on the PS3 version?

No it's not that bad, people just want to over react and kick a fuss about nothing. The only slowdown you'll notice is during replays/cut scenes. The game plays as normal.

i'm really enjoying it to be honest, i've got the PC version and it's really smooth, quick and very good to play.

there's only really two things that have bothered me; one is the sound effects, they've really taken a step back with these, the whistle's awful and the fans are crap, also it's like "ISS Pro Evolution" in that kicking the ball sounds like a car door being slammed; the other is the kit editing which is pretty poor, but if kitserver is released for this game like the last couple then that will become irrelivent.

Overall i've been very impressed with the gameplay though.

I've not got it myself yet, but I think people's expectations have been far too high. Since last year's pathetic next-gen version, many people expected this to be the mind blowing game we've been waiting for ever since the 360 and PS3 were announced and all the hype that went with them.

Obviously it has failed to deliver to these expectations, but by no means do I believe that the game will be bad, just like I haven't believed any of it's predecessors were. OK, so lately the improvements haven't been spectacular, least of all because of the step-up in possibilities the new hardware has given them. An excuse could be that Seabass and his team haven't had a lengthy time to adapt to the PS3 system yet, but I believe that's all it is, an excuse. Sure the game should be better, but I will play it, have my annoyances, what game is perfect? Part of the experience is knowing the faults and enjoying the improvements in the next installment. No-one can deny the series hasn't progressed, and perhaps there will be no PS2 version next year, meaning there will be full dedication towards moving things on.

All the moaning about editing is ridiculous, I spent so much time editing on PES4, 5 and 6 it may well be a relief to me that I won't hang around adjusting a club's badge. I will spend more time with the gameplay itself, which besides the 'too fast' complaint, people haven't had much bad to say. Man Red here I come

But people are saying that due to slowdown problems the game is unplayable? If this is true than how can Konami release a game with such glaring faults.

It really does seem like a mixed bag. Some people find it unplayable, some can deal with it, others have no issues whatsoever. And there's no explanation to the why it does for some, not for others. I guess you need to just hope.

It is totally unacceptable that they released it with these slowdown issues and they obviously must know this.
My only reasonable thinking can be is that they wanted it out as early as possible to generate as much sales obviously with the holiday season coming up and with the current downloadable options available to them on next-gen systems maybe there just going to release a patch to fix it instead of delaying the game a month or so.

There are too many new members appearing out of the woodwork with alleged pre-release copies to get any clear result on this.

We need an 'official' input from a reliable source...

I have suffered slowdown to the point that it cripples the gameplay, it is installed to the HDD. Replays are shocking.

Kev, seen your pro/con thread. Nice idea.

As i haven't got it yet, informative info is good. You said you had it on SD, but others have said HD (at 720P) seems to partially solve the issue....

Can anyone back this up?
