Really enjoying the challenge of the new PES, especially in 'superstar' mode. Have played PES for many years, and I feel this years edition is a real step in the right direction. However, there are a few niggles that can be really, really frustrating and can spoil an otherwise great game.
1) Computer teams score WAY too often from free-kicks inside 25 yards. Around 70-80% will result in a goal (80-90% with better players), with a man on the line making no difference. Given a dead-ball EXPERT in real football would probably score around 10% of free-kicks, this is pretty annoying and unrealistic.
2) Goalkeepers still (as in 2011 edition) parry too many balls back into the danger area, rarely parrying behind or to the side. This is somewhat mitigated by improved responsiveness from defenders.
3) 1-on-1s are almost impossible to score when running straight in on goal. Virtually all shots are blasted at the 'keeper or wide, regardless of the striker's ability or where the shot is directed.
4) The defense drops much too deep, too quickly, allowing strikers to receive throughballs virtually on top of the goalkeeper. This is probably one of the biggest problems in the game, and can often make defending simply a case of hoping their striker misses the chance. Setting the defensive line as high as possible does not remedy this.
5) Crosses are a bit too effective. It's all to easy for any player, regardless of ability, to whip in an undefendable cross with either foot. This often results in the rather predictable attacking style of getting someone, anyone, to byline and crossing (with low cross being especially difficult to defend.
