The 2018 UEFA Champions League final in Kyiv will mark the end of a very successful and fruitful 10-year partnership between Konami and the UEFA Champions League.

The UEFA Champions League offered the perfect media and activation platform for Konami and has been a key feature within its world-renowned Pro Evolution Soccer video game.

Commenting on the end of this long-standing partnership, Guy-Laurent Epstein, marketing director of UEFA Events SA, said: "Konami has been a strong licensing partner for the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League, with our competition brand being heavily featured within the video game and as part of the popular Konami-organised UEFA Champions League e-sports tournaments’.

"It has been a very cooperative and mutually beneficial partnership. UEFA would like to thank Konami for its tremendous commitment and support to UEFA club competitions for the last decade and we look forward to continuing to work with Konami in the sphere of UEFA national team football."

Jonas Lygaard, senior director of brand & business development for Konami Digital Entertainment B.V. said: "The UEFA Champions League licence has given us a platform to create unique experiences and provide football fans from all over the world with an opportunity to enjoy this competition first-hand.

"This year, however, we will shift our focus into other areas. We will continue to explore alternative ways UEFA and Konami can continue to work together, as our relationship remains strong."

So, basically, Konami lost the only license which FIFA did not have.

I think Konami is screwed if they don't improve PES 2019 a lot. I don't like MyClub, it sucks (in my opinion), looks like a cheap copy of FIFA's ultimate team where everyone has a team full of superstars, made just to make us spend money with those microtransactions. That's not football. Football is passion, emotion, great goals and games, fighting to win a league or a cup, avoid being relegated or trying to get promoted. That's why Master League/Become a Legend are the best. How can their slogan be "Control Reality" when their main focus is that piece of crap that we call MyClub, that isn't realistic at all? And I'm sure I am not the only one who thinks like this. (Sorry MyClub fans, I don't want to offend anyone, I just don't like MyClub, this is just my opinion)

In my opinion, Konami needs to go back to the good old days, when PES had an unique style and ruled over FIFA. PES lost a lot of fans because they lost their identity. What Konami needs is to keep PES 2018 gameplay with some more improvements (penalties, handball fouls, etc.) and do improvements on their edit mode (more options for us to edit, like team nacionality, more commentary names, more image slots, an option for us to create our own teams without having to rely on that little amount of fake teams, stadium editing, etc.) and on their offline game modes (giving us something fresh on ML/BAL)

Champions league and europa league partnership was a waste of money. They couldnt even get all the teams from both.

I couldn't agree more with you. Sad sad news indeed. Now I will be more skeptical on how they will handle PES 2018...we wouldn't want another PES Survival like they did with the Metal Gear Series because Konami just doesn't give a f@$& anymore!

So the only license remaining will be the Copa Liberatodore...gosh! I fail to pronounce that word. Man I just don't know what is going on in the gaming industry right now. So many changes happening and mostly negatives.

Wrong they lost Libertadores a couple of years ago. It's the Asian Champions League they still have.

I don't think it was a waste of money.

1st - We have editors who make the remaining teams. This year there were 5 teams from CL I think. So, we can still play a nice, realistic Champions League, with a little effort, something we couldn't do in FIFA.

2nd - The Champions League and Europa League "atmosphere" will be lost. How nice was it to enter the field on ML with your team and listen to the official anthem? Plus lifting the trophy at the end, on that giant Champions League stadium? It's something special. They can't make a generic cup be so good like that.

So, unless that money is redirected to somewhere good (as I explained on my previous post) and not to "improve" MyClub, I think I'll stick to PES 2018 and PES 2017. Those 2 games are the best so far in my opinion, despite all the problems they have (nothing is perfect). PES 2013 is also good: the last game before they started losing their identity.

Konami should atleast release some press briefing to assure their PES community and fans that the series is not dead. Can't bear EA getting the license because their career mode sucks big time not to mention the probability of a rip off standalone game next to the full fifa game all in one year.I

I'm just saying they should be in the game already. They have the license. They are paying a lot for something & not even getting everything. Editors shouldn't have to make those teams. I'm sure a lot of people like seeing that "atmosphere" of the CL & EL. I personally don't care. Everyone is different thou. Just like I only play ML & they are not upgrading it at all. I just want more real actual leagues, teams, & players. I agree with you thou that unless the game improves I'm not getting the next one. I'm having more fun now playing PES 6 & PES 2009 right now (Especially PES 6, its my favorite).

I don't think PES 2019 will improve to be honest. They will just add more fake teams & try spinning it like they added more teams. You cannot count a fake Indonesian team with players who are suppose to be Indonesian but are named Smith & Johnson as a team. They didn't even try. I think Konami will probably only make like 2 more games since they lost all the licenses.

I understand your point of view. In fact, I agree that Konami could have taken more advantage of UEFA license to improve their game, and they didn't.

I think I'll stick to PES 2018/2017.

I was wrong. Adam Bhatti tweeted that the CL & EL licenses did not give them any teams. It just gave them the names & logos.

The Champion's League license was a great addition when it first appeared in PES 2009. I remember playing BAL mode almost religiously back then, and I believe my player reached the Champion's League final while playing for Ajax Amsterdam (or was it Juventus? Hmmm...)

However, I do share the opinion that the license was never utilized properly, and I also believe the mode lost it's appeal with time. I don't think I've touched the mode - outside of BAL or ML - since PES 2014. Then again, I never was one to play the classic Cups or Leagues either, so...

I doubt the loss of the license will be fatal to Pro Evolution Soccer by it self. As I see it, the series is facing far worse problems than that and I know for certain that my own patience with Konami is running thin.

The only way forward for the series now is to get out of its comfort zone and simply just do more...do more of the small things that make PES better than EA's Fifa series, I mean if you do not have over 3/4's of the Club and National team licenses you just have to out-do your main competitor elsewhere. The gameplay is nolonger enough to justify the yearly 60 bucks, we need more e.g better dribbling inputs keys, better Commentry scripts, Handball, handball, penalties, penalties, penalties etc rather than the annoying last minute cheap scripted A.I goals:no:shocking:
Presentation Revamp is long overdue...
The menus also have to go...damn! The UI is still a relic. Time for a fresh overwhole change.
Realistic and animated coaches and the substitutes on the touchline and technical area.
The crowds and fans look like cardboards instead of a football atmospheric environment.
And this idea of removing fan favorite features for less popular ones should stop:no:...add the new modes and contents on top of already fan favorite modes and features please.
Master League has stalled...the current game had a few changes tweaked but are not enough...Master just needs a serious revamp because the Online mode is still broken. The Servers suck so its difficult to play any of those modes:no:. I hate the idea of having to go to Edit menu when am already in my Master league menu just to go back and undo a color texture on kit or appearance change for a player:no:. Why not just add an edit shortcut menu into the Master League UI menus. Talking about edit mode I know PC players have Mods but console owners have nothing and its going to be rough:angry:. It's either add more options for console owners or find a way of adding mods, why can't I edit Ronaldos hair or Messi's beard, or carbon copy Neymar for my own template use. Stadium creation/, assigning fan chants, edit, boot creation, Ball editing and Manager editing including the type of clothes you want him to wear and not that cheap grandpa suit they dressing him up in:no:, Competition Editing including Theme Songs, Score cards skins, Billboards and tables. Tattoo editing...we want more editing options now that Licenses are being stripped down so that I can have more reason to come back to this title. To be honest the best blueprint is watching the actual football games and implementing the best stuff happening into the game. I know its asking for a lot but they gotta show more why PES is still a AAA title worthy of my 60 buck. And the other thing I hate about their input:no:...please please Konami...make X the skip button for your replays instead of the Options button...damn! Its irritating having to press the Options button 98 times in a single match:no:
The whole point is that the only strenght PES has over Fifa besides gameplay is the ability to edit the game...so this should be their focus:tongue:. They should go out their comfort zone and give their fans the tools and ability to customise the game into whatever the user wants it to be. Its clear the licensing battle has been lost but if you give the users the tools to polish the yearly half baked PES project it will do wonders and nobody here will be complaining about why their league is not their or poor presentation, the game will be part of the users customised experience themselves.
I just hate this man...this game has so much potential to be the G.O.A.T but Konami just keeps pulling the plug every goddamn time.:erm:

Agree with you. Hope Konami listen to this. If they can't have the licenses (and I understand that, EA Sports has much more money) give us the tools to edit the game to our liking and we create the "licensed" leagues ;) If only we could create more "authenticity", like changing the nationality of the club (because of banners and ML/BAL), adding our own banners (with png images), changing fan chants, competition theme songs, scoreboards, etc...

Another (small) thing that I never understood is... When we "edit" the stadium (change colors, etc.), why can't we have some more colors for seating? Seriously, why not black seats? I'm tired of seeing teams which have a black stadium with dark blue stadiums in game. I know this isn't much, but I think Konami should get rid of these stupid issues. Is the small things that make the difference.

I agree! There are so many small things which konami can work on and which costs almost nothing! I agree much more colors of seats or better.. create your own color option. It shouldn't be that difficult!? Yep another small thing is those basic banners like "attack" and other horrible ones which we can't change! Better add an option to import png images to banners!

Third thing that bothers me is the weather conditions! The field and the sky are always so clear! Too clear! Like a mirror! Why not snow? Why the hell not fog and firework?? When you watch a game in San Siro there's always fog and firesmoke?? Where is it in pes?? And snow?? Why not sometimes thunder with rain?

Fourth thing: it annoys me so much that you can't move your wall with free kicks??!!! What the hell?? It's so important!!!

Fifth: indeed!! Please change your interface in the mini-menus regularly!!! Or just the complete interface???

There are enough other small things... .

Konami do your work!!
