I know exactly what you mean. As beautiful as the nets look, there's no WOW to the goal. Often because the goals are cheap and scrappy I think.

I have to say although I didn't like the game when I got the demo and am still disappointed by some of the graphics and the incredibly difficult long balls but overall I think the chalenges and game physics are an improvement however I sometimes make a great move and end up scoring and find that there's just no feeling when the ball hits the net - I can't put my finger on why exactly maybe because there's no sound of the ball hitting the net or because the referee blows his whistle when normally you don't hear that in real life.

Sometimes it takes me a second or two to realise I've actually scored. Now, I know this might not seem like a big issue but it's frustrating because I remember on the older versions, a great 'feeling' when the ball hit the net. It's just a shame scoring a beautiful goal and getting no 'ball hitting the back of the net' feeling

has anyone else noticed the same? Do you know if it's the sort of thing they would look at putting in a new patch?

Cheers for your thoughts

Yeah that's the first thing I noticed about the new PES - it lacks that old goal-scoring feeling, goals are definitely lacking something important.

I just bought the game, and in my opinion it's better than I expected -after reading all the critics- it has some major issues, but it is a great game regardless -but- the goals need more feeling, the online play is disgraceful, the always present EPL licences issue, and of course that slow-down issue that's currently affecting ps3 and X-Box versions.

Apart from those 2 major issues and the other less important ones - I'm still waiting for Konami to edit the Classic Players. I mean, how cool is that??! I would be very pleased if Pes 2009 featured; Carlos Valderrama, Roberto Baggio, Franz Beckenbauer, Diego Maradona, Pele, Johan Cruijff, etc, etc.. all with their REAL faces - it's very annoying to see that Fernando Gago haves his real face -while on the other hand- Pele, Maradona, Baggio, Valderrama, Cruijff, etc, etc.. have some random faces.

I think Konami should take some time -because theres is plenty of space and memory- to edit the Classic Players. Personally, I think that edited classic players would be well received by PES fans because there are plenty of PES players who always have someone like Pele or DiStefano on their team. Bottom line is that we PES players and customers would be able to make our own all-times best XI - of course we can do it now, but it would be much better if the classics had a real face.

Anyways, Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 clearly beats FIFA08 - maybe not in sales, but at least PES is similar to real Football - the same cannot be said about FIFA. If Konami manages to bring back that old goal-scoring feeling, and fixes the online/offline issues - along with new features such as unlockable Classic Players who actually have real faces - then we'll have the first football game worthy of next gen tag.

ha ha, like that a lot

yeh i know what you mean though about when the ball hits the net its not quite as satisfying as it could be... i mean its the big part of the game scoring goals so you want them to look amazing and the nets are rubbish, the ball just seems to nesstle in the back when you want a proper net ripple. remember the old wembley nets, they were rubbish like this...

but overall it dont bother me that much

I get you mean, a nice whack after a tough free kick would be mint, it does sound good when you whack the crossbar though.

I love pes, but I want so many new additions.

Maybe the game should go back to the arcadey celebrations of early ISS games where GOOOOOAL pops up in big bright letters.

Seriously, that'd be a killer. I loved those big letters. They should also bring back 'GOAL KICK', 'CORNER KICK', etc.

Back on topic -sort of- I'd love to have the FM 'goal' roar when I score in PES. I remember there was a patch for PES 5 which added the Argentinean league and the best goal roar I've ever heard in a football sim --loud and sudden. It was fantastic, and improved the feeling 100%

Sure about that, or just repeating our old mantra? Times change.

it does seem like something is missing when u score maybe itz coz half the goals that are scored are easy ones so therefore u dnt feel like u've earnt that goal through hard work like on other pes games.

i like the nets on the xbox 360 and ps3 versions they are he kind of nets u find in the argentinian league where the nets are loose and the ball almost gets lost in the waves of netting, although i think that on pes 2008 they should have different nets for each stadium or at least have different colour netting on different stadiums like black netting and dark green netting jus like previous pes games.

When I said that I had just played the game once or twice, and I thought the game was alright. However the more I play it, the less I like it. So yeah I said it was better than FIFA -but- now after playing the game for some weeks I can only contradict myself - The game is shite, it's not even close to real Football, and it is one of the most boring games I've played, ever. Even Seabass Takatsuka acknowledged that, he said "We'll be back to the drawing board for PES 2009, bla, bla, bla".

In my opinion the damage cannot be repared, Shingo Seabass just lost a huge deal of credibility with PES08; he said before it came out "I am most proud about the fact that we achieved Both the Graphics and the Game Play" "You'll have fun playing it, I guarantee you that" - That was a massive lie, it was used to sell the game, and Seabass was fully aware of that. This is why Seabass Takatsuka, he lost a great deal of credibility to my eyes, and I for one - I'm not buying anything "Shingo" says about PES 2009.

Someone mentioned that this whas the end of an era for PES, that Konami just couldn't handle what Next Gen Gaming had to offer - I agree with that. I'm tyred of the Convenient Lies that both Konami and EA Sports pull off every year - those excuses were acceptable in the PS2, but to come and release the same shite on the PS3 and then claim that it is a Next Gen Game!! Completely Unacceptable! That just shows how important Fans are for both Konami and EA Sports, Both Brands are out for the money and they don't give a fu@k about their fans. It is time we "The Fans and Consumers" acknowledge that fact.

So yeah I'm pretty much tyred of both Konami and EA Sports; Both of them always do the same old trick of taking an Important/Essential Feature and re-introducing it later as a New Feature. For example, you can bet your a$$ that Konami will come out next year and Re-Introduce the same good old PES Game Play and claim it is a Next Gen Feature - and of course plenty of loyal PES Fans will believe what they're hearing is true. More of the same goes for FIFA, and I just had it with both Konami and EA Sports, I'm just waiting for another Brand, anyone who can take Football Simulation games a step further. We all know Football games can be much much better.
