Nope, you are not the only one experiencing lag on LIVE. The problem seems only to concern the client. Konami are aware of this problem and are currently working on a patch to fix it.

I'd have to agree with Dr Evil. They can update the live system but this only seems to create a peer to peer connection, this means the hosts xbox is doing all the processing. With this in mind I'd imagine any patch would have to be done on the actual game engine. To patch the game would mean re-issuing disks, which is unlikely.

I'm only running 512 adsl from pipex. I'd be interested if anybody with the same speed connection would like to give me a game. It's possible that mismatches in upload speed are causing the issue. I'll be on live around 18:30 tonight, gamertag PHandM.

If you want a game send me a pm with your connection speed and tag.

In the UK there is really no "mismatch in upload speeds". 99% of people on ADSL have an upload speed of 256K. Its the same on cable apart from the cheaper NTL option that still gives you 128k. All of these speeds are optimal of course and your connection is contended (or shared) which depending on the time of day and usage can mage a huge difference.

The problems are probably related to how the comms are handled on live and I would think that a patch via live is relatively easy.

i thought the whole point of 'live (and paying for it) was that microsoft put in tonnes of beefy servers to host all their games...i'm very dissapointed that it just creates peer-to-peer connections between xbox's.

if this patch ever materialises i will run round my garden naked. I cant see it happening tbh.

I don't know how much good this patch will be able to do, but one thing is for sure, it will materialise. There's a news item about it on Konami's German website.

There is no need to re-issue disks as one of the above posters said. The way it is done is that the patch is downloaded via live, when you goto play it it will say "xbox live is just updating, please wait" or something like that. The patch is then saved to your xbox's hard drive, and the additional data would run from there.
This is how it is done for other games (such as Star Wars:KOTOR which is a good example as it changes the game by adding another area into it, code was needed to change the way you could travel to this new area)

jimmyczz the theory of the speed mismatch was due to the guy having a 2meg connection and i'd imagine his upload will not be 256 like the vast majority of us.

There seems to a lot of speculation here by myself included, but not much action.
A small step would be to setup games between friends and then post the amount of lag and connection speeds. If there is a pattern then there is a possibility of knowing who would be the optimum host according to connection speed. This would help when playing in a league as games are arranged in advance.

Ok, well Konami have just released the pc patch, whic is supposed to fix performance issues, so i am hoping the xbox patch is due soon! This is what was said for the pc patch anyways:

New PC Patch 1.10 for per evolution Soccer 4 from immediately available!

After the start of the PC-version of per evolution Soccer 4 we have from immediately the Patch on version 1.10 for all users ready.

This Patch improves among other things the Performance of the Online Gameplays.

There are information inclusive more exact the Patch on the detail side (left below) by per evolution Soccer 4 or directly here:

http://de.gs.konami-europe.com/download.do?id=1999

So it seems Konami are working on stuff as we speak, gives me hope their will be a live patch out soon.

Tin2k1. Patching a game is different to downloading an addon, for example extra areas/maps. A patch is an update to the game executable. In the case of the p.c. this is installed on the hard drive when you install the game. This enables p.c. users to patch said file no problems.

On the xbox however the actual game is not installed on the hard drive so the actual game engine cannot be patched. However you are correct in stating that certain games have the ability to access extras downloaded to the hd.

if a game was designed and programmed for the xbox, it's likely the developer would have made it in such a way that updates through Live would be expected and thus catered for. however, it's almost certain that Konami have just ported Pro Evo from the PS2 and then bolted on a fix to get Live play working...this could make updating it much more difficult.

timedwins just told me that 2 matches I hosted had no lag whatsoever. And he's not the first to say that too.

In Exhibition mode, I set the stadium effects to Off and the crowd for both sides to zero stars. And I play with commentary off. Have a go with those settings and ask your client how the lag was.

yep i reckon no commentary will help big time as i play someone with it turned off my end goes wacko so it must be using bandwidth when it is turned on.
