The presentation looks a lot better, the gameplay, animations, onfield collisions all should be good, just please improve and expand the franchise and superstar modes. That's the only thing stopping this game from being good to potentially being great. I do still wish 2k games came out too, just look at the great work they did with NBA 2k11.

Out 30th August.

Well said. The superstar mode on 2011 feels somewhat sparse. The whole 'only improve at the end of the season' shit is really frustrating. A variable growth rate akin to the first couple of attempts would be a most welcome return.

Looks brilliant but as you said they really need to improve the franchise mode as it's been a very solid mode but after a while it gets quite boring.

I think they should do a points system like they do in Nba 2k My player. You gain points for perfomance + extra points for completing certain tasks. Then being able to spend those points on your players attributes such as catching, handling, jumping, footwork etc.

I imagine they will take a massive hit in sales if NFL doesnt' get a season together. This could be the first edition in the series I will miss since PS1 days if NFL doesn't play.

I have never been a fan of a long-term franchise mode - I only play one season and then start over so I can adjust my league accordingly to real player movement, breakout players, and retirees. Franchise mode retires too many players who really continue to play.

From the recent news I've heard, the lockout seems like it could end relatively soon. It would be a disgrace if we didn't get a season this year.

I haven't played a Madden game on a next-gen console before and the last one I played was 09, so I'm most probably gonna buy it regardless. The improvements on the Franchise mode I've read sound good (bigger team rosters, ability to cut players, free agent bidding) to name a few. Superstar mode doesn't seem to have been given much of a overhaul though, which is a bit annoying.

Too damn right. I'm planning a trip to Chicago in November & am hoping to get in a game while I'm there. If they change the schedule or don't have a season then I'll be seriously gutted.

Well with the NFL back in full swing it puts me back in full swing to buy 12. I like the idea that camera angles will be different for every stadium, very realistic to the variation in NFL stadiums. However, this would seem to work better if you would play horizontally which no one does.

Not much fanfare over changes in physics of the game despite a new collision system. Seems as if they are boasting dynamic in-game performance more than anything. Seems like that is getting off too easy. I imagine the EA folks will be busy making a good number of roster changes but with Aug 18 release date I imagine many players will not be associated with their correct teams. This may be the year to utilize online roster updates more than ever.

People still buy Madden? :shocking:

Not only do they buy it in millions of copies, the marketing in the U.S. is done to perfection. The release day is touted almost a holiday, EA urges people to take a day off work to stay home and play, people lineup at midnight to buy, the large dept. stores open early or stay open late, the player ratings actually show up in newspapers, and I don't mean internet papers but hardcopies. Stories run on the local tv news. I don't know of another video game that is that strong in marketing.

Haha. Sounds like I was right with the my player suggestion. Apparently thats the route they've taken and I think it will improve the mode a hell of a lot.

Looking forward to this, got this bad boy on pre-order.

Not going to pick up the game until tonight but the forum type reviews have been scathing and some of the top ticket items they list are downright scary. They have been so bad that I can't believe I am going to spend $60 on it in a few hours.

#1 - supposedly they didn't update the new NFL playoff overtime rules.
#2 - linebackers leaping up to intercept passes 5 yards over their heads
#3 - no pass interference
#4 - rocket catches seemed to have returned to the game
#5 - poor engine performance - e.g., kickers running with 100 speed, defenders even faster
#6 - this is small but a major annoyance of mine from the past 3 years of the series - the wrong team celebrates tds, ints, and big plays. However this year the announcers credit the wrong team with those plays. Slooopppppppy.

I am becoming more and more convinced that next-gen sports gaming engines are not as good as last gen only the graphics are better. We almost hear it here all the time with PES.

Apps - I just returned here because I saw your post on "What Are You Playing" that you picked up madden 12. Penny for your thoughts.

Ive come across the rocket passes and linebackers leaping to intercept passes which are impossible IRL(annoying as hell). However I really like the feel of the game so far.. I prefer it to 11 but I havent really put alot of time into it yet but will be doing so tonight.

The presentation, facial features and things like the graphics of weather/stadium/grass is second to none.

I will be putting it to the test tonight as well. Leaving the office for gamestop right now.

Played an hour or two more now. Its good, improved but was hoping for better gameplay. The linebackers intercepting passes is becoming a bit rediculous but I will fiddle with settings tomorrow and see if I can tone it down a bit.

Franchise mode is better than last year...If only I understood most of it

swapping in 11 for 12 in T-minus 4 hrs....but those issues are fairly shitty if true.
11 was my first Madden/NCAA experience on the current gen consoles after PS2 and tbh it was underwhelming (played NCAA 2010 heaaaps)
I wish they would somehow bring in the QB ducks and shrugs from NCAA as i got way too comfy in the pocket too often. Just hope they didnt fiddle with the running game mechanics too much.

I haven't played NCAA since 04 or 05 on PS2 but I could create players/teams in those games to be resemble my old grade school and high school teams and our rivals which was a blast. You can't make players that small anymore.

Don't like that Apps is noticing the linebacking interceptions already so much because it was so strongly remarked upon on the ea madden forums. I was hoping they were just over-emphasizing. This has been a problem for years but so far seems to be worse than in years past.
