Master League Changes for PES 2013 (Adam from WENB)

Gato

Cat O' War!!
INTRODUCTION

Initially, Master League looks the same as last year. Choosing real life players or fake players is now a simple option, as Konami have removed the PES Shop. More on this element at a later date. After you choose the look and nationality of your persona, you enter the press conference where you are presented to the media.

Sat at your desk, you are introduced to your secretary, and she talks you through everything in ML, similar to last year. You are briefly introduced to the new boots acquisition and shop within ML, but nothing in-depth.

The start of change

As you enter your first match, you’ll realize all your players are wearing plain black boots. Not only that, the opposition players are also wearing plain boots. After the match, I was awarded a pair of Nike boots.

In ML, you unlock boots to assign to players, and this will give them a stat boost. The boots you acquire though can only be assigned to one player. I unlocked around 4 boots in my first season. They have different abilities, so by unlocking the Adidas F50 it will give the player I assign it to a boost in pace.

It’s important to remember that the opposition are going through the same process. I played Barcelona in the CL, and players like Messi and Iniesta were wearing fake boots. Not one of the opposition player was wearing a boot they would in real life, but they had on different boots with different abilities.

Micro-boosting

In ML you have a new menu called Items, which consists of ‘Shop, Item List and Equipment’. The shop has access to 18 different stat boosting abilities, from strength training with dumbbells, to a cycling machine that helps stamina. These items cost points, which you gain from playing the game in general. So, Konami have removed PES Shop of old, and implemented it into ML.

What’s key to remember is that each element purchased can only be assigned to one player. Also, some elements last for a set amount of time, like a season.

Each player in ML now has an Item menu, which allows 3 slots, plus a boot slot. So you can give them 3 different stat boosts, and then boots to compliment that.

As an example, you could give a player like Andy Carroll stat boosts in dribbling and pace, and Adidas F50 boots.

Here's a screen as an example, showing Abbiati with dribbling cones on one item slot, attacking stat boost on another, and Nike Tiempo boots: Please note, I purchased Götze in the first transfer window

Overall

To sum up, ML has become a mode that looks to move away from a traditional approach over the years, and incorporates a less authentic approach but heavy game elements in a bid to keep you playing for longer.

Discuss.

Hello pato long time no talk.

The boots feature looks a little fictional for me, even though I love all the other features of buying weights etc for improving the stats of my players. Why I'm hating big time is the fact EVERYONE will start with black shoes, that's for sure a horrible mistake for my point of view.

In the other hand, I knew that PES2013 ML wasn't gonna change a lot from last year, I do think that on the new Console Era PS4 or XBOX 720 we will have a total rebuild of that area. Still I do love ML big time, even though stuff like changing clubs or more ways of negotiating transfers are gone.

What a stupid decision. I was about to pre-order Pes, thought id google master league tho to see if anymore info had been released, to only stumble across this.

Now im wondering if im even going to bother. I like the idea of training and equipment, but the boots ruin it. I play Fifa or Pes for realism, to play the beautiful game. If i wanted a gimmicky arcade style game i would play Sensible soccer or some other shit.

Its the boots which have got me. I could live with them improving player stats, thats one thing, but to make all players in ML start with default black ones, is pathetic. Makes me laugh that they have the time and skills to add this peice of shit in, yet they can't even allow managers to change teams for at least the last decade.

Sorry Konami, i always buy Pes and loved the game, but you guys have screwed it up for me this time. I always buy Fifa and Pes, and pes gets more play time. I think this time its only the one for me.

I read this on PESfan last week, there were people throwing their toys out of the pram declaring how they were going to cancel their pre-orders because players would be in black boots. Years ago this wouldn't even have amounted to much but added with micro boosting the response has been incredibly negative.

Its worth noting the micro boosting of stats is only 4 - and only to one stat of your choice - and you only get 3 slots to fill with extras for players, including this micro boosting boots option. Personally I don't see a problem with it, on PES2010 you could train your player using the little blocks, this isn't a million miles removed from this.

The point is clearly longevity. In that instance, I think its a good move. ML won't become tedious quickly. I'd rather play a couple of seasons before I make my mind up on the impact this will have.

I like the idea of training equipment etc, and boot stats aint a killer. I hate the fact that i can't play Master League with players with real boots. If the game didn't feature real boots, then fair enough. But it does, so why restrict the user in this aspect? Its something people haven't asked for, and makes the game very unrealistic. At least allow it as an option to be turned on or off.

I just want to be able to start a Master League with Southampton, Barca, United, whoever with my players wearing real boots or the ones i chose them to wear. Not these shitty black default ones. I could understand it more if it was even just for starting with default players, but they have ruined it for most of us.

People who play the game and dont care about using fake team names and badges won't be bothered, but those of us who edit the game to the best of our ability or buy the edit option files do care about this very much so. After all, we go through the trouble or spend our money on making PES as realistic as possible license and cosmetic wise- ie kits.

Oh no.. What's insanely funny about this, is the fact that konami even take the time to debate a topic like boots..

Did they just meet at the office one morning thinking: "now the game is obviously as good as it gets.. What can we do with the remaining time until release?" Then a japanese guy gets an idea - "Let's discuss boot colours for ML mode".

Then he got a bigger office and was offered a raise..

Obviously the players boots should be the same colour in ML as in exhibition mode.

There are SOOOO many other issues they could address before the final game is released - we're still dealing with retarted keepers for the 3-4th consecutive year, and a completely ruined passing system from demo 1 to 2 etc..

Passing for me is definitely better in demo 2 rather than in Demo 1

realism is gone out the window here with the boots thing!! Its the same every year Konami do something stupid and this seems to be it this year! Its not a game breaker for me by any means but along with those stupid Easter island or football heads its hard to take Konami seriously when they say they want to make the game as real as possible! How hard can it be to cut out these little gimmicks they add that are stupid!! Still can't wait for the game tho im having withdrawal symptoms as I haven't played any pes in 3 months

Why isnt anyone looking at it this way- remove the whole boots nonsense- If as a coach you could focus on certain stats to improve on a player would you complain? This has the potential to offer some nice micro management of your team.

I mean this happens in real life all the time- Stehpane Mbia was crafted into a beastly centreback by Deschamps and he was just a run of the mill midfielder when he originally came to OM. This isn't as far fetched as people are making it out to be.

I still stick by what I said now hearing about the slot mechanics it makes micro managing even more intricate. This is actually an interesting twist.

I think the best we can get is a promise it will be fixed next year. Never seen Konami fixing shit through DLC. Good thing my PES13 came by boat.
