Master League house rules

Just interested to hear peoples house rules for playing master league. I have tried all different things to try and make it more realistic / difficult. This is slightly different to a 'challenge', although there are inevitably similarities.

These are my current 'house rules':

Salary cap: £50m

UEFA Squad Rules: Maximum squad of 25 players. 8 players must be homegrown (developed for 3 years before the age of 21 in club’s country), 4 of whom must be developed at the club itself. Maximum squad size can be exceeded for players under-21 developed at the club.

Transfer restrictions: Cannot sign players under the age of 21, except from the youth team. Cannot sign players registered at ‘Other’.

Transfer negotiations: Can only make one offer. No further negotiations on transfer fee or wages after the first bid. Must accept the players preferred contract length.

Salary negotiations: Can only make one offer. No negotiations on wages after the first bid. Must accept the players preferred contract length.

Selling players: Must accept all bids, except for players aged under-21.

Youth team: No restrictions on signings from the youth team.

I change the rules from time to time if it is making things too unbalanced in favour of me or against me. And of course, its still sometimes fun to just build a team of world beaters, which is what Master League was designed for after all...

Its a bit extreme I know. But I love having to constantly sign new players, without making things to easy.

Am I the only one who does this kind of thing??! :)

Sorry Coxy but I agree with rebelinho on this one

But I guess its all about enjoyment of the game so what ever makes you happy, so fair enough.

I have some "house rules" as well, they're just not as radical as Coxy's.

In my current Porto ML, and following your method...

Salary cap: none

UEFA Squad Rules: none

Transfer restrictions: Cannot sign players over 23, except when in need of them midseason. Can only sign player from european clubs, and giving preference to portuguese ones.

Transfer negotiations: Do everything at my reach to bring them for values as realistic as possible

Salary negotiations: Do everything at my reach to bring them for values as realistic as possible

Selling players: For non-transfer listed, only sell them for a decent fee. For the transfer listed, sell them for a fee at least matching their market value

Youth team: No restrictions on signings from the youth team.

I've posted my next ML restrictions before, but if you want I'll post them again

In one week in august I received offers for 24 players out of my squad of 28, with the rules you mentioned I'd be screwed... |D

Hmmmmm... Thinking I might need to change it on the player sales then. Anyone got any good ideas to force me to sell wanted players, without having to let the whole squad go?

Sell only players for whom you receive offers higher/ very close to in-game market value with a dark green face. You never can argue with a dark green face, now can you?

Good idea. I wonder how many bids from the CPU actually reach to a dark green face though?(!!)

Whoever thought of the faces idea is a genius ;)

Activate the Release Clause on their contracts. Might work rather well

This is how I lost Courtois! Gave him a release clause in his contract as it lowered his wage demands then a season later Chelsea poached him back off me for 10mill because they were a higher ranked team!! :crymore:

I had to learn about this the hard way! So I presume that if you are a higher ranked team than the club making the offer you get the chance to reject it?

Me too, lost Depay to Atl Madrid for... 8.5m€

Yes, in case you are higher ranked it will be just like a regular offer.

How does the release clause work exactly? I'v never used it. If it only applies to higher ranked teams, then it won't work if I'm number 1 ;)

I'm seriously considering a coin toss for each offer!!! LOL

Or a dice role? 1/2/3 the player goes. 4/5 he stays. 6 I get unlimited loyalty???

Cheers rebelinho, thought as much.

Coxy, the release clause works as follows: If you buy a player and put 'release clause on' in his contract then any team with a higher ranking than you can buy them for whatever price they bid...and you have no say in the matter. As rebelinho said above "in case you are higher ranked it will be just like a regular offer."

Ali another lesson required ;)
Coxy101 using a dice would be more hipster than De Gea :D

Noted, was having a mad minute :)

Dice it is, unless I think of something better over the weekend. Any other ideas welcome though...

After much consideration, I am going with the dice roll for offers made.

Players from my youth academy:
1/2 - sell
3/4 - keep
5/6 - keep, plus unlimited loyalty (never have to sell them)

All other players:
1/2/3 - sell
4/5 - keep
6 - unlimited loyalty

I'll keep you posted on how this goes... And thanks for inputting into my master league!!!

Just an update on transfer offers after my first season. I only received offers for 3 players in the end. The roll of the dice meant I only needed to sell 1 of them (Cuadrado, who I was able to replace with the arguably more valuable Depay). On reflection I would have accepted all the offers had I known I was only going to get 3 bids. I couldn't even sell my highest ovr player who I transfer listed (Lewandowski, 87).

Ali, what team are you and what is your ranking? It could be that your team is a low ranking to receive so many offers that your players accept? I am Inter Milan, ranked 9th.

Also the salary cap of 50m has proven no hindrance whatsoever in signing players. You can easily navigate any salary cap by signing players from smaller clubs- they seem to base their contract value on the ranking/status of their current club (you can pick up guys rated 85 ovr for approx 2m per year.

Hadn't really noticed this on my Bilbao master league, because I didn't really need to manage the finances (my only concern was making sure I had the best Basque players).

Anyway I won the treble in my first season on superstar mode (league, cup, Europa league), and my team is stronger for season 2. Back to the drawing board on some of these house rules I think. I like to have a challenge on and off the pitch, without deliberately signing weaker players (hence the house rules!). Any ideas appreciated. :)
