Metro: Last Light

Got this for the PS3 a couple of days ago and so far so "meh" to be honest. Not that far into it but I feel the game would be much better as an open world explorer like Fallout rather than a fairly bog standard, linear FPS.

It's atmospheric enough and the graphics are decent but it feels like an HD remake of an old PC game rather than a new title. Dont get me wrong, it's not a bad game I just cant help feeling it could and should have been a lot bigger/better.

Anyone else played it?

So I am the only sucker who bought this damn game? Sheesh!

Played a little more last night, was pretty tense in the tunnels for a while with ammo getting low and the beasties jumping out at me but I still cant shake the "meh" feeling entirely. Listening in to NPC's conversations was cool years ago but nowadays who gives a shit? If I cant interact with them in any way other than kill them or knock them out what is the point?

Maybe I'm just a miserable old sod who has played too many games.

I know every game cant be an open world epic like Fallout or Skyrim but surely the linear FPS is in it's death throes now? They're all the feckin same!

When the new tech arrives I hope to see more FPS games open up on a grand scale more frequently than they do currently with more interaction and more options available to the player regarding how they complete their objective. Merely offering "stealth" or "all guns blazing" doesn't feel like enough anymore.

Maybe someone who isn't as jaded/miserable as me will enjoy Metro for what it is but for me it's a 6 out of 10. I could be argued up to a 7. Maybe.

I know individual ratings mean nothing to anyone but this game was released to a fair amount of critical acclaim and won a few awards too.

I cant see what has set it apart from the rest.
