It is happening again
In my (and many people's) opinion, PES is a much improved game this year. But there's still a lot that feels archaic and somewhat amateurish. If PES wants to catch up with, or even surpass Fifa, there's much it needs to do to improve:
1) Overall Presentation - they've moved the the ol' tablet look that Fifa does, which is all well and good, but then you get to the competition mode menus.... they're poor to say the least. In this sense, it's regressed since the PS2 days. Then there's the replays. Just look at the replays and highlights in Fifa to see how it should be done.
2) Player Faces - I'm not talking about the real player faces for the major players, but all the other default faces. They're absolutely awful, and much of them look like a copy and paste job, they don't even look like real human beings. It's not just the faces, it's the hairstyles too. This leads on to.....
3) Player Names - Some players have initials (eg C. COLE or whatever), some don't... there needs to be consistency. Fifa has a first name and last name for each player. And of course there's the names of the fake players, which aren't even close to resembling real life names. Now there may be some licensing reason behind that, but it really takes some realism out of the game when you've just signed some 16yr old winger in ML called FORQULSIBOB (seriously.... what's Konami's obsession with the letter Q?).
4) Kits - Again, could be a licensing reason, but it seems that teams with "full" kits in real life have striped kits in PES (eg Leeds with purple stripes???), and teams with striped kits in real life, have full kits in PES. But even then, they're not up to date, eg they have an orange away kit for Bolton.... which is the colour we had last year. This leads on to.....
5) Accuracy - Many teams squads/lineups aren't up to date. Again, I'll revert to Fifa, which manages to update them every week. Of course, EA has much more money and the means to do this, but they also have more teams to account for. I can't see why it would take that much effort to do this, considering we have plenty of talented OF makers who can do it without even getting paid!
6) Random Form Arrows - Acceptable in 1998, not acceptable in 2014. Somewhat acceptable in an exhibition match, but in a career/ML mode it doesn't make sense. Oh, you're striker has scored a hattrick? PURPLE ARROW NEXT MATCH, HAHAHAHA.
7) Master League - Not what it used to be. I blame Fifa for this, and more specifically FUT. Seems that Konami have put a lot of their effort into myclub, and ML is lagging behind. For me, ML has always been the lifeblood of PES, and now it's just.... well..... it's ok I guess. But then you compare this to the career mode in Fifa, which isn't perfect in any sense, but is so far ahead of ML it's untrue.
