One Season Almost Up, What Do You Think About PES 2014 Now?

As everybody already know, this game was a crap the first time it was released.

After a few major patches, I think that PES 2014 is the best footy simulation ever created on the series. Emphasis on simulation.

The game is way slower than PES 2013, it has momentum to put into equation whenever you want to execute anything. No more obvious ping pong passing (gosh I hate that, too arcade-y), lofted thru ball has been nerfed, and more often than not, I see resemblance on real football pitch comparable to what I see on PES 2014 gameplay.

Heck even I enjoy the slow response of the game. Can't believe it myself. It takes real skill to score and adequate understanding on how the game mechanic works just to score the goals.

Call it placebo or not, for me this is so far the most enjoyable PES ever.

After two weeks I realy started to like PES14 because of some great new ideas like the advanced through ball and shooting, the more intense battle for the ball using the right stick, the feeling of actually moving a person with a weight over the pitch, the graphics and especially the animations, everything was closer to real football.
Like you said I also liked the small delay, in old games it was like: run, press the shoot button, goal. In 14 when running towards the goal you would have to slow down to get the ball under control and counter the delay and then shoot. Much more like in real life.

I can only talk for the Xbox360 version but for me with patch 1.10 many of that was lost, players startet to fall for no reasons, the shooting seems of, many late called fouls, many offside calls, players feel again like they would have no mass. Even the graphics and the animations seem to have taken a hit.

So for your question I think it is ok but it was better.

Because I make generic teams and players, I decided to delete the option update files (because following the second one - the menus took ages to load and so did the games) so I am pretty much playing it "out of the box".

Graphically it's beautiful, animation wise it's still needing work and the overall impression is there is a great game hiding in there somewhere. The edit mode seems to be one step forward, and two back - but you're always going to get that with a new engine.

I just traded FIFA World Cup because I was playing PES more - so it must be doing something right.

My only major complaint for PES 2014 is the referee.

There are times that I think fouls are called incorrectly. Often I manage to fairly snatch possession from an opponent player's front and the engine called it as a foul. Even the replay shows that I got the ball first beyond everything else.
