Online play is a disgrace (RANT)

Let me just say that I’m LOVING Manger Mode, I think it’s really good (even though it does get slightly tedious after a while) but online is just an absolute disgrace.

I am sooooo frustrated at FIFA online, I’m seriously thinking of returning my copy of FIFA and waiting for Pro Ev to come out.

The basic frustrations are:
- CONSTANT ridiculous pressing
- CONSTANT lobbing of your goalkeeper
- Ping pong passing
- Strong players just overpowering the world, overpacing “quick players” and

The game is almost a complete waste of time. It doesn’t matter how good your player is technically, how fast he is, he will ALWAYS lose out to the more powerful player. FIFA is just not realistic in anyway.

All you get online is ping-pong passing and and people lobbing your goalkeeper. There is hardly any point playing online, cos every game is the same. Presure-Pressure-Ping-Pong-Ping-Pong-Chip. I am actually DISGRACED that they have made a game so stupid that your goalkeeper’s are constantly in no mans lobbed and so easily lobbed. And you might aswell have a team of John Terry’s cos there is NO individuality between players, apart from strength. Its like the stronger players are actually quicker than “fast players” eg Lampard vs Messi.

I’m also fed up of playing vs Chelsea, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Man U and Juventus. I know that isn’t EA’s fault, but it frustrates me to no end.

The game is just so unrealistic its unreal. There’s no build up play, there’s no time to think when you get the ball, your defenders are ALWAYS one-on-one vs the attacking player, theres no team play, its just 11 individual players, whoever is the strongest wins.

This game is such a disappointment and sooooooooo frustrating. The more you play, the more you realise that this is basically a game for people who don’t want to play pure football, for kids really. If you want to play a realistic game of football, then don’t play FIFA 10. Simples.

I wish that the abusers would just play against each other, and let everyone else actually enjoy the game as much as we can, given the limitations/problems with the gameplay.

I’ve had a quite few good games against proper players, but the amount of times I’ve played against players who are just abusing the game has left me disheartened. I’m not just posting this because I’ve lost a few games (I’ve actually lost more games vs good players than vs abusers) but there is just no fun in this game.

The End

First off, if you use the filters, you don't need to play Real Madrid, Chelsea, Barca et al every single game.

About the pressing...

If you're good enough, you should be able to combat it by just tearing them apart in the positions they leave open. Any player who tries pressing too much rarely does well against me, because i just send a player on a run into the position they brought a guy from and I'm away.

Also, letting go of the sprint button when in possession helps. It doesn't feel so rushed and it's easier to move it from player to player when being pressed.

As for speed not being a factor, I think it still is...

Not as much as 09, granted. But it was WAY too much of a factor in 09. If you get away from a defender, let go of the sprint button and flick R3 forward with a quick player, there's no way you're getting caught. I'll admit, it can be a bit frustrating when you aren't 100% goal-side of a player and a defender muscles you off the ball, but my main gripe with 09 in defending was that once a striker broke free, there was no way to stop him unless you took the red card by hacking him down.

I honestly believe it is much more realistic than any other footballing game avaliable. I can understand the frustration at being second everytime against the stronger players but to be fair this is quite realistic. You just need to find the space and expolit it, think like a footballer.

Whereas with the w**kers that attempt to chip your goalkeeper EVERYTIME and suceed is a real problem that needs to be sorted. Keepers have no chance with a chip that is held for about half a second and it is such a frustration.

Yeah, I'd say only chipping is unrealistic, so much the frequency of success. I think Pro Evo had a decent success to failure ratio on chipping, in terms of realism

lobbing isnt a problem - stop bringing your keepers out as much, let the opposition try score a proper 1 on 1 . Believe me it's a lot harder to score than it was in 09.

I've quickly learned that if you bring your keeper out you'll probably get punished, I've also realized that for some reason Ashley Cole is likie Geoff Capes - EA made him far too strong.

But basically if teams constantly press you, it's so easy to pick them apart if you know how to play.

OPPOSTION TEAMS

First off, if you use the filters, you don't need to play Real Madrid, Chelsea, Barca et al every single game.

I've had NO luck in playing any match whatsoever using filters. The one time I did, when I selected only teams between 2.5-4.0 (whatever it is) the opposition guy STILL managed to choose Chelsea.

PRESSING

About the pressing...

Perhaps I didn't write it very clearly - its' not that I can't play against the "pressers" - I can, and do manage to beat most of them - most of my losses have come across decent/normal players - I'm just frustrated that that is all that most people do. It's just CONSTANT pressing, players hardly get tired and it annoys me no end.

Finding decent players to play against is just such a bitch

Also, I'm a possession player, and constant sprinting isn't my thing. I know how to play (it's briliiant that I can almost literally play the possession football with Swans very similar to how they do in real life) - I'm just frustrated with EA that they have done literally nothing to counter-act the abusers of the game.

They did say before the game was released that this was one of their main areas of concern from last years game :S

CHIPPING

Lobbing IS the problem - I hardly ever bring my keeper out, yet I ALWAYS find him just wandering in no mans land, no matter what. It's just SOO frustrating - there just seems like there isn't a damn thing I can do to stop him doing this. The fact that most people find it pretty hard to score one-on-ones without chipping is another of the main reasons why people use the chip so much.

I'm just finding that online is basically for abusers to up their win-loss ratio, and the real fans of the game are just brushed aside. There is NO WAY normal players, ie non abusers, are going to stick that much longer playing online, especially not for a whole year/6 months, and especially not if PES is good online (and doesn't give the advantage to abusers)

Well in FIFA 09 I was ranked top 250 (so I'd class myself as a good player). I know for a fact that I'll be playing FIFA 10 until FIFA 11 comes out. PES doesn't come close with gameplay anymore.

If you look at things in this manner; in fifa 09 if your keeper was lobbed he'd have no chance of saving it, now in fifa 10, if he's lobbed he runs back and a lot of the time has a goal line clearance = Improvement from EA.

The pressing thing doesn't bother me in the slightest because it basically lets me tear teams apart and make them look stupid.

as for the opposition teams there's nothing EA can really do about this? They added a filter but they cant FORCE someone not to go a 5 star team because at the end of the day other players paid their money for the game & have the right to do what they want with it.

It may be improved over last year, but it's still nowhere near good enough IMO, it's still so ridiculously easy to chip any keeper, and really spoils the game. I mean yes, a chip goal every now and then is acceptable and realistic, but anything over 85% of lobs going in is just unacceptable. And the way goalkeepers are CONSTANTLY found in no-mans-land is just unacceptable - it rages me!

The pressing thing doesn't bother me in the slightest because it basically lets me tear teams apart and make them look stupid.

Agree with the "taking apart" bit, it is pretty fulfilling to pass around "pressing abusers" - but it still bothers me that it is so easy to press at such a stupid level - and this is more of a gameplay issue than abuser issue, it's again just SOOO unrealistic and really takes away from the game ... and grips my sh!t

as for the opposition teams there's nothing EA can really do about this? They added a filter but they cant FORCE someone not to go a 5 star team because at the end of the day other players paid their money for the game & have the right to do what they want with it.

What are the filters for then? Any filter I've tried just bring up ZERO results - why put this feature in if it doesn't work. Or am I doing something wrong by creating a session and choosing teams only 2.5-4.0 or whatever the selection is? Anyone else have trouble with this filter?

I just think that FIFA 10 is the "almost" game ... if they ironed out the issues with super strong players, constant pressing, and the easy-lob goals then it really would be THE ultimate football game

Once I've gotten over these frustrations then perhaps I'll really love '10. But it is what it is and I guess I'll have to live with it ...

I 100% agree with you on the super-strength players.

Fair enough if the likes of Drogba was hard to shove off the ball-because that would be realistic.

but for some reason, players who aren't very big/strong seem to have incredible strength at times, best example, Ashley Cole!
