[OPEN] What Could Make This Site Better?

If Chatbox was removed I don't think i'd come on here half as much. The admins can decide whether that is a positive or negative.....

If it was available just for admins and mods, it would allow us to stay in constant communication while patrolling the forums - which would hopefully speed things up, in terms of the decisions we need to make (bannings etc.). It could also be temporarily opened for matches, when requested.

I disagree. It only encourages the staff to post less. The staff are an equal part of the community and despite their responsibility to the site, they ought to be seen to contribute. Original? for example, rarely posts for time spent in the chatbox -yet is a very articulate and intelligent poster, something of a loss to the community in my eyes.

If a real time chat facility is needed, I'm sure one can be implemented into the staff area.

Frankly the admins and mods can all go and fuck themselves if they make the Chatbox available for them only at any given time even if its five minutes.

Going round in circles now, this has already been covered with the "what is the staff section of the forum for then?" point (made by Sweey I think?)

An interesting concept, but not one I intend to be involved in. Thanks all the same for the suggestion though.

Let's face it, any radical change would have to be initiated from the top. Not pointing any metaphorical fingers here, but we all know well where that is. As it is looking increasingly unlikely, then any action that could be taken would have to be pretty much with the tools we've already got.

Add your own preferred inflection to that last sentence.

There's no way the chatbox is going to be just for staff. It was reintroduced as a perk for paid members.

Couldn't you just set up a separate chatbox for staff, for the meetings and that, and then keep the current chatbox as it is?

Would be harsh to just cut the Chatbox off completely for the 'Elite'.

I'm not sure where this talk of the chatbox becoming a 'staff only' area came from, but it really is nonsense. It's just not going to happen.

I think we should all post regularly, start new threads and contribute actively to discussions. And get hookers.

Sminky, the Hall of Fame for threads and the PESGaming Twitter account are examples of suggestions made in this thread (by me ), which have become parts of the site.

Ironic to bring that up a full 8 days after the last tweet. Give me the keys and let me drive, dammit.

Disband the general forums section, move the content into PES forums under a general forums subsection and Its more likely to be noticed by PES only posters.

From a business point of view, it seems only logical to filter new joiners and regular PES posters by making them more aware of other sections of the forum. Obviously its not a guarantee but if the structure was as I suggested, a PES section member would click on the PES section and see football related threads they'd most likely have an interest in, the Premier League and other football McGuffins etc. It will more likely entice them than having to search for those threads as they would have to now.

There is real potential in this site, I've seen it and hence my interest in it but unless the owner or at least the staff embrace change its not really going to go anywhere. A successful forum needs enthusiastic staff prepared to champion and drive change.

We're fortunate that PES2013 will be successful compared to previous titles, rather than see the apathy that our owner has, I'd like to see the staff take advantage of PES2013 likely success and run with it by making structural and user based changes. I've made suggestions already to Joel, whether these have garnered any interest with the staff is unknown to me, but I am certainly going to beat the drum from progressive change on the site.

Each year when PES comes out there is the opportunity to build on the members that join for say option files and other PES extras. Why not include in the welcome email a hotlink to the introduction thread, maybe to the football thread encouraging them to post in their team thread? It doesn't have to be a hard sell, merely planting a seed of interest. We're missing a trick here.

I appreciate from an Administrators point of view that they may disagree but from a ownership point of view and crucially driving progressive interest, I'm telling you straight: its a no brainer.

Any news my above suggestion, or word from Matt Holme about ditching the Konami feedback section?
Matt said that he didn't deal with it so he copied Dan Bolas into the e-mail, asking if he knew anything. He hasn't responded yet.

Regarding the layout of the forums, I'll give it a try and see what happens.

Be able to 'tag' people in posts. I understand this may be more related to the people who make the forum rather than run it but it would be pretty cool if you could tag people in posts, same way as Facebook/twitter.

Yeah, I think it's about time that this forum gets a vBulletin update. I know that tagging feature exist in vBulletin 4.2.0

If I am given the permissions that I have asked for - permissions which are for more than just the forum and are equal to what I had when I was last an admin - I should be able to get post-tagging working.

Until I have said permissions or a way to work through the processes, I can't do anything.

That might be today, it might be tomorrow, it could be next week or it may be a lot longer. We'll just have to see.

That'd be extremely useful, especially to those that haven't visited the site in a week or more and has missed out on something important. What'd make the tagging function more useful is that you can link your email to here so you can be notified via hotmail if you've been tagged incase you forget about PESGaming. That would be complex though so don't see it happening

What about having a time limit to appeal to a ban? That'd be very useful for people like Walk on green or 777.
