PC to PS2 Option File transfering without Max Drive

Hi all, i see that everyone is having difficulty to transferring OF from pc to ps2, in my case i had no problem, all i used was, my ps2 (slimline gray) my swap magic 3.8, and an usb external drive.

and it worked as a charmed, if anyone need to know how I did it, let me know.

What kind of USB stick did you use? :unsure:

By that I mean, the memory capacity of the stick (256 Mb, 512 Mb etc) and the name of the brand would also help.

I used an external HDD 80Go from my laptop on usb 2.0, it's a basic 2.5" hdd Sata with an enclosure. I Putted on it, my divx, music an games, so i can enjoy all of it on my ps2

I think I must've misunderstood your earlier post. For a minute there, I thought you were talking about using a USB Memory Stick (aka Flash Drive) successfully with Swap Magic 3.8 on a slim PS2. hmy:

Just read your post again and I can now see that you were talking about an External USB Hard Drive. Still, if this method worked for you then maybe it'll work for everybody else aswell.

Quick question; was your External USB Hard Drive expensive? And how did you manage to get DivX movies to work on a PS2 without the Reality Media Player? :unsure:

Not so expensive, you know. I had broken my laptop so i took out the Sata HDD, en buy an enclosure for 'bout 20€, and for the divx player I use "SMS" available here http://sms.ps2-scene.org/eng/index.htm.

But how do I go about installing this software on my PS2? I've had a look through their site, the downloads page only has a .elf file there and the FAQ and User Manual pages are full of dead links.

EDIT: Please bear in mind that I use Swap Magic and not a modchip. This is where the DivX playback became an issue with the Reality Media Player - the TOC of the Swap Magic CD was not high enough to load the TOC of the CD with the DivX movie.

I'm hoping that this SMS Player can load DivX files from a USB Memory Stick (Flash Drive). The Reality Media Player could only load DivX files and MP3 files from a CD-R.

First of all, I have Swap Magic 3.8. People say above 3.6, you can launch elf programs. (elf are like exe file for computers).

My Hdd is formatted as FAT32, on the root, you have to create folder named "SWAPMAGIC" with that file sms.elf.

MANUAL-Loading your own programs from USB Mass Storage Devices:

- you can have a maximum of 4 files in the "./SWAPMAGIC/" folder at the same time. You will need to rename these ELF program files to the following respectively:
- SMBOOT0.ELF
- SMBOOT1.ELF
- SMBOOT2.ELF
- SMBOOT3.ELF

- plug in the USB Mass Storage Device to the USB port of your PS2
- power on your PS2 with your Swap Magic disc
- after booting up your PS2 with the Swap Magic disc, you will see a "BOOT DISC" window
- select "SMBOOT" and you will see another window "LAUNCH SMBOOT"
- select the program file and press "X" to run the program.


The above instructions are from the Swap Magic 3 User Manual.

stick for primary device

i dont understand...how is your PS2 gona be able to read stuff off a USB??!

Lads i'm having trouble with transfering the OF from the memory card to my USB Stick.

I've tried transfering the OF both crushed & uncrushed but everytime the program freezes. I've tried reformatting my memory card & then transfering but still getting freezes.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i did almost everything, but when i had to pass the OF to my memory card, it said that the device hasnt got anything to pass

the thing is that it read that a device is connected, but doesnt read the thing in it.. what should i do?

Hey dude I have PS2 Slim NTSC. It has the mod chip i guess (since I can play copied stuff) so i downloaded swap magic 3.6 and burned the ISO on a DVD-R (8x) Next thing I put it in the PS2 and it doesnt work... Help Me.. wts wrong ???

Even the AR MAX EVO thingie did not work for me as I burnt it on a normal CD but the PS2 doesnt boot ...
