Patch 1.2 (released by Konami on December 3, 2007

Patch details:

1) Searching for opponents in “Quickmatch” tries first to pair you with players having a good connection

2) Occasionally appearing slow downs during matches have been fixed to improve game play quality

3) Some changes to the network structure have been introduced in order to solve issues for users which are not able to connect to opponents

4) Issues with Windows Vista causing PES 2008 not to recognize the full amount of the video card's VRAM have been fixed.

5) Various other minor issues have been corrected

Download the patch here

PES 2008 and Windows XP 64-bit

The user JayBuchanan managed to get PES 2008 to both install and play in Windows XP 64-bit. Here is his post:

Anyone who has trouble like me install http://www.wiretarget.com/games/pc_pro_evolution_soccer_2008.shtml

xp64 bit fix

using ''bitzipper'' and replace the windows installer with the fix tht you download after you copy all the files that are on the disc onto your hard drive now my copy of the game has skipped tht and now freezes when I want to play the game looking for a fix now :) and to think I was going to return it yesterday :)

update I have managed to get it to work I had to turn off hardware accellaration off for sound then notch it up after I got it working :)

PES 2008 and 4GB RAM (includes additional graphics/resolution options)

The game will run problematically if you have 4GB of RAM as it is a 32-bit application which doesn't support 64-bit processes (such as 4GB RAM) but there is now a workaround which doesn't involve you rebooting with less RAM recognised by your OS. Firstly, download Kitserver 7.0.1 from any of these locations:

http://www.speedyshare.com/936922754.html
http://rapidshare.com/files/67094312/kitserver-701.zip.html
http://files.filefront.com/kitserver+701zip/;8952298;/fileinfo.html

Copy the kitserver folder from within the archive into your PES 2008 installation directory and then run the setup program (in Vista, right-click the icon and select Run as administrator) found in the kitserver folder. Once the correct game executable and settings file have been picked up, click Install and it will apply itself. Once this has been done, run the program lodcfg. You will see an option allowing you to force the game to run at a particular resolution. Type one in, click Save and then run the game. It will override whatever resolution was picked in the usual Settings program. Be warned that you should only pick a resolution your graphics card is able to use. There is a help button in this program which explains all of the options.

Additional Graphics Detail/Resolution Options without using Kitserver

If you do not wish to use Kitserver but would like additional graphics and resolution options, you can download the following file. Please note that it does not fix fix problems you will encounter with 4GB RAM where PES will not be able to correctly idenfity the capabilities of your graphics card and that Kitserver is the only way to get around the 4GB issue.

The appropriate file, which includes four different widescreen resolutions, can be downloaded here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=3Z5BDRW2 and includes appropriate instructions.

Virtual Drives

Programs such as Daemon Tools and Alcohol 120% create virtual drives which games such as PES can detect causing them not to run. This is due to the security written on the game CD (Securom in this case). This software must be disabled or completely uninstalled in order to fix such a conflict. I've never had to uninstall Nero so that shouldn't cause any problems.

Saving Problems

Certain members have experienced problems when trying to save competitions. The user Marahaxi believes that if your OS is installed on a drive other than the C: drive, this can cause the problem. In any event, save files are stored in the following locations:

XP: User Profile\My Documents\KONAMI\Save\
Vista: User Profile\Documents\KONAMI\Save\

The save game files are named as such:

Cup competition save file 1: PES2008_CUP01.BIN
League save file 1: PES2008_LEAGUE01.BIN
Master League save file 1: PES2008_ML01.BIN
Replay save file 1: PES2008_REPLAY01.BIN
Option File: PES2008_OPTION01.BIN
Edit File: PES2008_EDIT01.BIN

File two obviously ends with 02.BIN and file three 03.BIN etc.

No Commentary

Resolved by yvyvyvyv in this thread and almost identical to a problem I encountered with speech in Command and Conquer 3, this can be a result of a 5.1 or 7.1 speaker setup coupled with particular audio settings. Switching to a 2/2.1 or 4/4.1 speaker configuration within Windows should solve the issue.

Online Play

The default port to be enabled in your router and firewall is 5739 but by running the Settings program and clicking on the Online tab, you can specify a different port number if you so wish. The port must be forwarded in your router settings AND the program allowed access outbound by your firewall, both of which you should be familiar with. I've experienced absolutely no problems as I already had the appropriate port forwarded in my router from PES6 and I automatically set the Windows Firewall in Vista and Comodo Personal Firewall in XP to allow PES access to the internet.

Other users are having an issue where they can connect to the network but can't challenge anyone. The user Piggeh made the following post which has immediately worked for the first person to follow the instructions:

Someone has posted a solution on another site.

Go to your connections (network connections within control panel) and disable all connections apart from the one thats in use (ie your internet connection). Worked for me and my mate.

You'll still need to select green pinged rooms only and select them quite quickly or you tend to get an error if you wait around a bit.

Open issues

Press start has an issue where the game will load but then go blank if he is playing in full screen. If playing in a window, the game runs fine. He is using an 8800GTX and has 1GB RAM under Vista and graphics drivers are up-to-date.

Hi,

I have a problem with installing PES2008.
Problem is "DLL load error!". Just like that. On the begening of the instalation.
I tried to solve that problem by searching the google, and I saw that I am not the only one with this problem. But there is so little posts on english so I dont understand what they are talking.

Here is an SS of that problem.

Thanks.

I forget to say that I installed the game once, but on wrong disk partition (friends HDD was in my case...). After that I uninstalled the game and start new install, but in the middle of instalation comp was restarted (my bad, I was working some things in background...). After retstart I was angry so I went to ......\KONAMI\ and deleted folder (without uninstalling in conrol panel).
I put DVD into DVD rom to start instalation one more time but I get ERROR Window.

Downloading dlls didnt help. :(

That download doesn't seem to help anyone

Have you tried uninstalling the game, going to the Start Menu, clicking on Run, typing regedit and then searching the registry for entries relating to PES 2008 (or PES2008 or Pro Evolution Soccer 2008) and deleting those entries prior prior to installing again? Unlikely to help but worth a try I suppose. Just be careful - don't delete ANYTHING not related to PES 2008 in the registry or it could cause problems.

I had the same problem, try running the msi file (it extracts the files for installing i think). Then select install, this worked for me! :)

Hey man.

iam not sure how to forward the port number...I know how to...I use a NETGEAR Router...so when I go to port forwarding...what is the service name??? I just put pes2008...but it wont work :(

Also..Windows Firewall wont go on for me so I cant allow the application to use all ports :S...My anti-virus software is NOD32...but it does not have any port forwarding with it :(

So....what on earth can I do!!

I'm going to need pictures as I don't know what you mean by Service Name (the name of the program using the port doesn't matter, it simply needs to be instructed to forward the port to your PC).

Does NOD32 include a firewall? Also, don't use Windows Firewall unless you're in Vista. If in XP get ZoneAlarm or Comodo Personal Firewall - both free - and when PES tries to access the internet, ALT-TAB out of the game and click "Allow" or "OK" when asked if you want to grant it permission to do so.

Runtime Error

Hi guys, i experience this problem everytime i try to run PES 2008. A pop-up screen appears stating, "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Runtime Error! Program: PES2008.exe This application has requested the runtime to terminate in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information."

This problem is really getting on my nerves. I have tried all reinstalling it millions of times but to no avail. Can someone please enlighten me.

Ok here is a picture.

NOD32 does have a firewall. But it does not pop up to allow any applications tho.

The service name should simply be to remind you why you set the port in the first place to be honest. As for NOD's firewall, you'll have to find a way to instruct it that PES2008.exe is allowed access to the internet. That shouldn't be too difficult to do and looks like something you'll need to achieve manually.

The only solution anyone found so far was a complete new installation of Windows, updating all their drivers and installing PES immediately which then worked fine.

Vista slowdown

Here's my problem: PES 2008 is running absolutely flawless under XP, even with the highest graphics settings. When I play the game under Vista however, there's a disastrous slowdown during gameplay - not only in a crowded penaltyarea, but also when a lot of action is going on in midfield.

Here are my computer specs (should be perfectly fine to run PES 2008):
Intel Core 2 Duo E6400
Kingston 2GB RAM (667)
MSI NVidia 7950GT HDCP 512MB
(Wireless 360-controller)
(Windows Vista Business)

Help would be much appreciated.

To be honest, that could just be Vista considering how much it likes to eat RAM and CPU power for breakfast. There's nothing wrong with your specs and the behaviour under XP should be mirrored under Vista. I don't believe Vista is trying to run the game with DirectX 10, simply because Konami have screwed this up enough on Vista x64 and the 4GB RAM issue for me to believe they even considered optimising the game for use under DX10. You could try and download the DirectX 9 SDK dated August 2007 which may help as it is supposedly a "fixed" version of the DirectX 9 used by Vista for non-DX10 games. The link to the SDK is in one of my posts above.

I'm downloading the dxsdk_novermber2007 as we speak. Should I go back and get the august one instead or is this just fine?

Btw. thanks for the swift reply!

Ok...I have downloaded ZoneAlarm firewall " free version " I put PES2008.exe in the exceptions list and put everything on allow.
When I launch the game..and press network....nothing different happens...still the same god damn error...no pop up appeared even when I minimized it..nothing...I used to have ZoneAlarm Security Suite 2005...and I would always get pop ups asking to allow it internet acces.

I wonder why it does not work still!!! I disabled Internet Monitor in NOD32..so ZoneAlarm is the only firewall now.

Seriously....what is going on!!

concerning the save problem, it seems that if you have windows on something other than drive C: pes2008 has some problem creating the save game files (just guessing), BUT you might be able to create them yourself i tested it with PES2008_OPTION01.bin, just created a bin file (with notepad, save as .bin) and it worked, So can someone please tell me what the saved files in mydocuments/konami/proevo2008/save/ .bin files are called. !

Try it without any firewall for just a moment and see if it goes through. If it doesn't your router port forwarding is the issue. If it does work, the firewalls are the problem and that should theoretically be easier to sort out.

All mentioned in the first post of this thread which I have now updated, giving your comments on what you believe causes the issue in the first place.
