Well its so generic that it could be one of about 20 things, all associated with that file. Its an error which can occur with any Windows-based program under the right conditions or if the file is corrupt when using Windows NT or later.

They aren't Windows bugs as such. You have to remember there are thousands if not tens of thousands of hardware combinations for PCs which is why the heavy criticism Microsoft isn't always fair. Apple, for example, write their operating systems for a very small number of hardware combinations.

The file could get corrupted as files can or it could be one piece of hardware causing an issue. I once had a BSOD every time I made the command prompt full screen. It only started happening after upgrading graphics drivers. Upon a re-installation of Windows (for other, non-crash related reasons) it has never happened again.

That said, Vista isn't great at all.

Can someone point me in the right direction to a thread that helps with getting online with PES2009?
I cannot get online to play. 'Unable to transmit using UDP port 5730'
I have tried opening ports, switching off firewalls. I am using a thompson router 02. Can't remember having this problem with the older PES.
Any help is most welcome and is it worth going online? Is it still laggy? Or is there an improvement. I was able to download the downloadable content in PES2009.
thanks

You have to forward the port through both your firewall and router. Doing so with the router depends on what router you are using - search Google for a guide on yours. If this doesn't work, set the router to DMZ mode and try the game. If it works, something wasn't being forwarded right but do not leave it in DMZ mode for a long time as this forces all ports open and therefore comes with security risks.

That's the drawback of having so many variations of each piece of hardware. Choice is nice but there's tens of thousands of combinations if not more.

truly stumped.

I find that very odd. All ports should be opened and all programs allowed full access.

You haven't got Windows Firewall doing some shenanigans in the background have you?

no I have that switched off. But this is thye really weird thing. I deleted the exceptions made for pro evo in windows firewall. Have it switched on. then boot up pes and try to connect. A message box comes up from windows firewall with options to keep blocking or unblock. I selected unblock and it still doesnt work. might have to hook up my ps2 for my online pes fix.

Same problem

hello everybody! im very new to this forum but ive been playing PES for as long as i can remember. ive always preferred it to fifa. well, here's my problem:
i just got a new graphics card, right? (a Sapphire HD4870) and then i installed vista, erasing XP. but then PES 2009 doesnt run in vista! and ive got too many saved games and goals to never see them again! HELP!

the game loads OK, the videos come, and when it says "press any button", and i press any button, it crashes to desktop. this has never happened to me before, and some friends of mine are playing PES 2009 on vista OK.
this is the error that comes:

(i thought that ntdll.dll might be the problem, so i downloaded it and put it in the windows system folder, but then it does nothing!)

my PC specs:

OS: Windows Vista Ultimate

PSU: Gigabyte Superb 720W
Processor: Intel Core2Duo E4500 2.20Ghz

That's the file causing the error. Did you reinstall PES or are you using the version installed via XP? If the latter, reinstall via Vista and see if that helps at all.

I have exactly the same problem as PRTKVDYA.....game loads, shows opening video and then when it say press any button to go to the menu it crashes and gives exactly the same fault module name- ntdll.dll and thats it......would not load to the main menu screen. I use a HP DV5 with NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT windows vista Home premium

I really need to play this game....im thinking it cant be a major fault cause it works on my HP TX1000 Tablet pc with vista ultimate...but the laptop screen is quite small.

Any hints on what to do......thks a bunch and keep up the good work.

Ok lads I broke out 2009 (PC)there last night and said I'd give it a bit of a blast due to the new game coming on soon enough. Anyways.. I tried to insert a ready made optionfile with kits and what not, but it was failing to load it. So then I registered (which was insanely complcated for some reason) and tried to update my version of PES2009 which is where I'm stuck.

I ran the update V1.40 and it still tells me my version is out of date, what gives? :/

Are you trying to update a clean install of it? I had no problems doing so when I re-installed the game a few weeks ago and applied the Smoke 1.6 patch without a hitch - bar the existing issue of trying to play against or as Wolfsburg and Koln crashing the game.

I am trying to install from scratch fella but I was going down the option file route rather than the patch because I thought it would save time since we were only looking for a quick fix at the time.

I downloaded that smoke patch too though in the meantime so if I install that will do the update aswell, is that what you're saying?
