yeah.. I'm ok with it now.. the graphix still make it hard... and I find it's not as precise.. I am an R2 type of player... I use it from dribbling to shooting... R2 is my best friend, and I feel he was excluded from this version...

I too went out and bought it the other day!! So far so good, although I'm still not convinced its as good as the 360 version. However, I almost think that the games can't really be compared as they play so differently!

Having to put the difficulty level up though already as won 5-1 in my 2nd game but its not a bad game. Shooting does seem a little like a last minute add on but you get used to it.

I have one question though: Can someone tell me if there is an easy way of collecting the ball when it is in broken play? For example when my player makes a tackle the ball sometimes spits out and I can't seem to control a player to move towards the ball for ages.

Just seen there was a second page to this thread! I'm glad you mentioned the graphics making it hard to play. Not sure if it is coming from the 360 or PS3 versions but does it hurt anybody elses eyes too!
Find that I am squinting a bit even though i'm playing on a big TV. Also the only other gripe is that it seems to be much slower than the other versions, which I guess is deliberate to enable player to pull their team about.

Has anyone noticed that the players on the Owen/Wrighty TV advert are much bigger on the screen (compared to the pitch) compared to when you actually play the game in real life. I'm playing on a 32inch lcd tv and I find it hard to see and select team mate sometimes!!

Also I've tried finding a match online a few times now but have had no luck. Anybody else experienced this?

No easy way mate. The defenisve side of the game has been horribly neglected......Only way to control players of the ball is to run them with lots of arrows towards where you want them to go...Of course, against human opposition, that just doesn't do the job.

PES 2008 Wii.

A Fantastic concept on the verge of being brilliantly executed....except Konami never bothered to implement any effective or intuitive means of defending. Aside from the frustration of feeling like your hands are tied when you are off the ball, this means that yet again, we have a PES game that can be won most easily by simply dribbling through the entire defence.

As a an all round game, I would give it 6/10. Pretty much the same average score as its console and PC counterparts.

However, I would still recommend this game as it is an absolute first of its kind, and there are certain aspects of the game that work fantastically well and you can pull of some passing manouvres which are a complete joy to execute.....But I doubt any 'hardcore' gamer will spend too much time playing this.

I agree 6/10 seems about right for this game. Great attempt but not quite there. I just find myself going back to the 360 version more. Sorted out the issue of not being able to see the players that well. I switch the screen to 4:3 rather than widescreen before I play on the system and the players are much bigger! Wonder if thats what they did in the advert??

Still not managed to achieve a connection for an online game though :(

Also it really bugs me how you have to set the formation and team setup EVERY game as there doesn't seem to be a save formation function. Have I just missed it or is this genuinely the case??

In a league, cup, or Champions Road match, you can set the lineup and formations before you even access a match. This will be the default. Before each match it allows you to fine tune your lineup, maybe bring out someone who is down and sub for a player on a high.

In single matches, though, I think you have to change your formations each time. I know I do - no one plays a 4-4-2.

Hmm...

Dunno about that......I would say its defo better than so-called 'next-gen' PES.......different, but also better.

I get online with PES 2008 Wii no probs whatsoever..although the console is very basic to say the least....can't even communicate with opponent)

Looking at videos it looks too complicated to work, how easy is it to work?

It works like a dream.......that is after you have endured the learning curve........Feels more like being a fan moving players around on the park than like actually playing though.....brilliant in its own way and totally unlike any other game out there......

Big shame about the defending aspect of the game......

Yeah I agree with that. It's definitely worth getting to experience but I just feel you're quite distant from the players (a bit like FIFA) and that you are just moving pawns about on a football shaped chess board. Newcomers will love it I'm sure but having played Pro Evo since its ISS days on SNES it just feels ironically restrictive in so many other ways compared to the other versions.

Hmm..I dunno. I feel that when I am in possession of the ball, there are a whole lot more options open to me that could never have been available in any other football game before this. True, you dont feel quite as 'on the ball' as you do in FIFA08 or PES08, but I find the whole approach very refreshing.....

The problems start when you are not in possession.......the defensive aspect of the game has been badly neglected and/or just plain old rushed. Still, I suppose that is the Konami way. By not finishing the game properly this time around, they can finally release the finished article next year, but call it PES2009 Wii, and charge us another £35 sheet for it. Sheer geniuses!
