PES 2009 vs. Winning Eleven 2009

I tried searching this forum for simmilar thread but couldn't find any. Sorry if this topic is already elaborated.

I wonder how many of you have played both PES and WE and what would be your impressions?

I prefer WE. For many reasons.
  • It has less bugs.
  • It is a bit slower but animations are smoother and this adds a lot to the reality of the game. (Wallcot or other super fast players do not perform sudden "warp jumps" with the ball over the oponents, if you know what I mean)
  • Attackers do not have such huge advantage over defenders as in PES. Mainly due to the fact that defenders in WE aren't so dumb. They do not fall out of play as soon as you press X and R1, just by runnig forward into empty space or tackling the air around striker never touching him or the ball.
  • Sliding tackles are more accurate.
  • Goal keepers are smarter too. They don't stand and watch the ball which is 2 inches from their feet and then go for it scoring own goal or pushing it to the oponent striker. Those sort of actions are rarely seen on WE. Overall goalies reactions are better too.
  • Being slower than PES, WE requires less anticipation of the oponent moves while defending.
  • Much, much less scoring from idiotic situations in the box and much much less own goals in WE than in PES.
  • Less unwanted sliding tackles from the players controlled by COM. And thus less penalties, of course.
  • Defensive line moves are more coherent. 3 or 4 players do not run to cover the flanks leaving box empty as it happens in PES. Players cover each other better when defending. So it's not as frequent as on PES that when one of your players is dribled by the oponent the other is already gone in the wrong direction, leaving open space to your goal.
  • Dribling is more accurate. Though 1 on 1 situations are not so much in favor of the attackers.
  • Overall reaction of the players is kind of better. They better respond to commands and tend to "memorise" less commands because they execute them in a timely manner. Less "free will" if I may say. (You know, when you want to shoot, clear or pass and player does one or two steps more before executing your command or simply does it with certain delay.)
  • Scoring is harder then in PES, definately. (Me and a friend switched to PES after playing WE for a week and first few games ended with 8+ goals, while in WE it was hardly over 2 goals per match)
  • Overall look&feel is more real and more playable due to the above stated. It all comes more to your skills and tactis than to the team that you choose. It is a bit slower than PES, though.
Well, this is just my view (and of few of my mates that spend nights distorting our thumbs on the joypads). I do play mainly against my friends. Playing against COM is a bit boring (maybe 'cos you can't see the face of your friend after you score:)). So my opinion is based on that experience.
I would like to know if any of you think the same? Oposite?

Yeah it seems to me that WE is usually a bit ahead of PES. However i find it strange that there are differences in the games.. But as you mention WE is a bit slower in game speed which i myself prefer. And yes, the AI seems to work out better as well.. And thank god for less assisted sliding tackles in the box!

What is your opinion of the refs in the two games?

Even the refs seems to have more balanced criteria in WE, while in PES you got some that sends you off for nothnig and some that let you get away with murder.

All of those differneces are noticable only when you play both games for a longer time. And then those small things start to make huge difference. It sucks to loose a match 'cos of some stupidities that you can't control (like those COM sliding tackles in the box even after you have took the ball)

I am not sure why KONAMI did that but it looks to me as if they intentionaly f*** up WE and named it PES.

Well, I wouldn't mind it if I could always find up to date option files for WE.
Curentlly, I am playing PES just 'cos I can't get newer option file for WE than March '09.:(

^ Agree. It seems that in pes 2010 almost every tackle from behind anywhere on the pitch will give a red card. That's what some guys, who have the game, posted in here at least..

vincentzero - that doesn't make sense. It's PES here in Canada and we usually get the same product as the US. Is WE in Japan? I still don't understand why they need to have two products. Two separate products to maintain. Were they developed by different teams? That's like EA selling two versions for different regions - financially it makes no sense. Take the best bits from PES, add any missing ones to WE and kill PES. Makes sense to me.
