Defending is ruining the game. I am usually a very calm person, but because of the bugs in defending I think I will break my first gamepad before PES2016 releases.
I play usual stuff, fluid formations, defending with many players grouped in the middle. I know all the stuff, not to hold r1 and run around like a noob while defending. Usually, I take a faster DM player (Mascherano for example) and track slow motions of the attack and cover through balls while I apply pressure with the square button. And I easily defend against through ball spammers and such type of plays. But the problems are:
- Setting the player to mark another player will usually result in leaving that "marked" player alone in the box for the whole match. Utterly bugged and useless. Even when they have Man Marking skill card. One time I tried to set 3 players to mark one player, only to watch him walk alone around the pitch for the whole match :shocking:
- Tiago Silva and Luis can not outjump Robben and other midgets. So many times I concede goals from headers while I have 2 180cm+ strong CBs against 1 midget attacker. They either step 2 meters back and leave him alone to shoot or he just outjumps them. This should happen maybe 1 in 50 times not 2 from 3.
- So many times, defenders just stop running to let the attacker pass and then start to run behind him, or do some other stupid thing just to let attacker gain advantage, looks so scripted but in a stupid way.
- 8 out of 10 times when I am holding r2 and blocking the crosser of the ball, he pass with X and ball goes between my legs or 5cm beside me... Even when Konami manual says that R2 improves defending, tackling and the ball taking.
- Applying pressure with square is useless against any good player because defenders just run at the ball and he can just dribble around them easily while defender runs beside them 5 meters away. I watched numerous times when I double pressed square how Eden Hazard just dribble around 5 mindless monkeys who run at him (or in the connection to the previous remark, let him pass, then start to run for him...)
- You can not defend against good dribblers!!! I have a friend who uses 0 skills (he does not use right stick at all), but he just pass the ball to Eden Hazard and walk with the cross and change pace and you just can not take the ball from him!! And it is not mine remark only, no one who play against him can defend against that crap. You won't see that in online play because online 90% of players just spam triangle. I tried everything, pressure with square, jockeying, only holding X, double X, etc.. Most of the time he can just move around or beside slow defenders and in 80% of the cases if I get him with double X it will be a yellow card... (but when tackling with circle, you will sometimes even pass without foul when you almost kill a player with a tackle). Also many times with double X defender will just push the ball further to him while that defender stays in plays useless for 1-2 seconds. There are so many stupid situations that you can see while he do that with Hazard that it is mind boggling how Konami could make such a game. Also when I give him space and just cover the spaces in front of him he will come close to the 16 meter box and there is always a danger of a through ball or r2+square shot or some Konami defending scripted bug to play out. It is utterly annoying to watch how 3 strong defenders can not take a ball from one weakling, and this happening 100% of the time. Not to mention Robben and his elusiveness and speed skills.
- Tactics screen sometimes feels like it is there just for cosmetics. For example, I set front line pressure and aggressive defending. And in the match when out of possession defenders just watch the ball, no one is pressuring it (I once watched Drogba running straight from the middle to the goal between 4 defenders who just watched him pass by without moving) and no attacker is going after the ball.
- Various defender stupidness and bugs. Like colliding in each other, goalkeeper sometimes watching goal slowly going into the net, small and weak players out pushing strong defenders, etc.
This is just ruining the game for me. I try to play a proper football and when I do all correctly in defense and concede because such bugs and stupid programming it really ruins the experience.
KONAMI please fix defending in PES2016 or I know I will stop playing PES after a decade.
