PES 5/6 , Nostalgic Euphoria ?

I installed PES 5 and 6 Extensively on My PC and cant see the reason these games are so highly rated these days by some of people. Ya these were great in early days but isnt those too silly for today's standard ? like some people are comparing pes 06/05 to pes2011 , i mean i cant see anything comparable. ball physics od pes 06 .. oh give me a break ! its like shooting a mesile without any law of physics. no physicality . awful graphics compared to todays standard. ball used to bounce off the player like rubber ball.gameplay was enjoyable but too much exaggerated everything. ya i agree they did some very little things right like the atmosphare etc.

It was a great game compared to fifa then .

and people was in love with pes rightly.

Do you think that Euphoria is persisting still in those people ? its like Super Mario Bross is the greatest game even compared to God of War or something ( both are like one way adventure game ). PES2011 is so much more a simulation of real football than pes5 or 6 but some people seems to be so much euphoric about it and im sure no future pes will feel even close to pes5/6 to them LoL

People think PES5/6 was so great because it struck the right balance between arcade and simulation. That balance is what made those games so much fun. What's the point of having a perfect simulation of football if you are playing 10 minutes matches? That way games will just end nil-nil most of the time. The greatest thing for those games is that you always felt in control of what you were doing. If you wanted to launch a missile like you said, you could. If you wanted to score a finesse shot leaning your body and kicking out of the goalkeeper's range, you could too. The so "engineered for freedom" bullshit they are selling this year was there all along, all it took was a lot of practice with the manual passing, but if you wanted to just do a half yard pass you didn't have to go through the hassle of holding the left trigger and pressing A.

Now what you got? A 16-direction pass (at best) that is not only frustrating but pretty much ruins the game for casual players. Plus the shooting, that was what turned me off Fifa, because no matter what I did it always felt it went right where it wanted. I tapped X, it would go mid-height instead of a low shot, I did a crossed finesse shot with a right-footed player, he would kick with his left foot in the goalkeeper's face, and so on. I can already see having my buddies for a tournament here (they are mostly casual aside from 2 or 3) and having their asses handed to me because the learning curve got so ridiculous.

And you want discuss physics? Please, this year feels like I'm kicking a volleyball around. Yesterday I slightly tapped X, it went under Almunia's legs, hit his ass, the ground, and went like like out of the stadium. Although I already bought the PC version and ordered the 360 version, they are far from being better than the versions aforementioned. Both control and fun wise.

I don't play those older versions anymore and while I agree there are some "fanboys" of the previous installments, it's not some graphic improvement that is gonna make they think PES 11 the best one yet.

Good day.

Refereeing - the one thing about PES 5 that is still better than any other PES after that.

Really? A game that came out in 2006 looks worse than one that came out four years later? Wow.

Also, I quite agree with many points pard has made in his post.

I always hated PES 5, I found it too niggly and too defensive. PES 6 was rediculously easy even on top player, and the AI players in PES 4 could drop kick your players in the face and never get booked.

The less said about PES08-10 the better.

PES 2011, while still with its flaws, is still the best PES ever in my view. Probably the first good PES since PES3 also. The first innovative PES since then also.

I fully expect to start a Master League on Friday after editing and not move all weekend.

I've had a few weekends recently with PES 5 following pretty routine hammering of the PES 2011 demo and the MLO beta and all I can say is that while PES 5 is fun to play with a friend, it is not the perfect game that it is often remembered to be.

For me, the pace of the game is a little too up-tempo, something that has been highly criticized by the press and community in current-gen PES games, and there are the little AI niggles that have plagued the PES series since it's inception. Also, the ball moves too fast for my liking, making it too easy to score belters from distance. I do think that keepers were generally better in PS2 days, but I have to be honest, I think the keepers in 2011 are miles better than they were in 2010, and generally competent.

Also, 2011 has a layer of tactical depth that PES 5 didnt, because the name of the game in the PS2 days was "sprint down wing with winger and cross into box - goal;" whereas 2011 encourages much more creative play. The overall movement of the players is much improved, with the back 4 often moving as a unit, rather than individuals who leave gaping holes in the back line (was happening a lot to me in my recent stints on PES5).

Also, people seem to forget that PES 5 had a potential game-breaking presentation bug that was never rectified (although it was tough to do back in those days - no DLC) - the NO CROWD bug.

Overall, I am really pleased with the direction that PES is going. I am pleased to see that the edit mode is gradually becoming as nuanced as it was in the PES 5/6 era and the addition of a stadium editor and league emblem editing is starting to sweeten the deal. On the pitch, PES 2011 plays a fun and challenging game of footie that I just don't get with FIFA, but I remember ALWAYS getting with a new PES. It was the feeling of having to master the game and it's mechanics in order to do what I wanted on the pitch that kept me coming back in the PS2 days, and I imagine it is what will keep me coming back this year (and hopefully years to come). For me, FIFA's do-anything-pass-anywhere philosophy is a bit non-representative of the real game, and often results in scenarios that do not reflect what I see on TV each weekend (e.g. an inordinate number of 1-on-1a).

So I'll take PES 2011, even if I have to come to grips with it, because it is engaging me and giving me the enjoyment that I felt back when I played PES 5 in 2005. Plus, I wouldn't mind kicking my brother-in-law's butt a few times until he comes to grips with the new mechanics
