PES scripting fix.

I've found a way to fix, or at least reduce the effects of scripting by so much that it is more to consider a fun factor rather than an annoyance.

I downloaded the "Total Realism OF for PES2009 v.09.05.04" from a russian page. This patch includes a modified exe file wich the author claimed he has tweaked the AI, I believe he has, and install it.

The problem with this patch is simply that I am not able to install it properly, and loads of players appear as "0" and if you change the name of 1 of them, they all get the new name and national teams does not work in BAL mode.

The solution is simple, since this patch includes a kitserver, you can download your favourite patch, wether it uses kitserver or not.
Put the save directory you downloaded in the "Total Realism of for PES2009" folder that is created in the KONAMI folder in "my documents"
When you have done that, exchange the contents of the GDB / IMG section of the "trpserver" with the contents of the kitserver of the patch you prefer. If your patch does not use kitserver, simply uninstall it, or remove the img and GDB contents, you can then use this kitserver to add faces on your own to the patch you prefer.
Use "PES2009 editor v2.9" or any other editor that offer OF version changing and change your OF to 1.3 or 1.4.

EDIT: Important, I forgot to mention that you need to enter command prompt and do the following.
"Cd Documents\konami\total realism of for pes2009\save"
and type the following "ren pes2009*.* trp2009*.*" without exclamation marks ofcourse.
You will now load the new files with the Total Realism pes2009.exe file.
Good luck

The author of the "Total Realism OF for PES2009 v.09.05.04" had done a formidable job reducing stats to ensure a more fluent game, so what I did is that I edited the new OF to get a similar effect.

Global edit guidelines:
I won't put up exact numbers on every skill because it's all a definition of taste, but the guidelines I offer here will get you a fun, fluent and solid database, and while some stats will seem low, the changes are global so you won't get the feeling that the players suck.

Attack skill is increased, I put it up by +15 points because despite what the description of the skill is "how much the player favour attacking positions" the skill effect is simply how creative they are with the ball. And it is a better option to increase "Attack" instead of "Team Work" because a very high teamwork skill on a global basis will make your opponents experts at keeping the ball in the team for long periods of time, this does not work well with 5-10 min matches.

Defense can be lowered, I did not do it personally, but the effect of a small decrease will result in a little less blocking of shots, while the tackling overall does not seem to be very affected. (-5 points or so)

Balance is reduced so the strongest players have around 70-75 (this ensures a very fun and realistic effect of pressure and also makes aerial duels funny and interesting.

Top Speed is reduced, I can't remember how much i lowered it, but for a reference, Martins is the fastest player in my OF with 66.
In a "simulation" this feels fast enough, and making the pace of the players slower makes sure you sometimes get time on the ball to do some amazing show off moves, while not always effective it surely enhance my gaming experience.

Acceleration is also reduced, like the above I can't remeber how much I reduced it, but Martins has 49 in my OF, and is the fastest player out of the blocks. From an ingame perspective this feels natural and while it may seem low the effects shown in the game isnt as dramatic as you might think.

Response is a very important skill. Average response in my OF is around 55, while Filippo Inzaghi has the highest of 73.
This skill is also the main difference between a great striker and the rest, so make sure the worlds top strikers is around 70-75 in this skill while the average is around 55, this adds a lot of spice to the game.
Personally I nver like having a player below 80 response in my team, but when the changes is made global I did not feel that the response nerf had such huge effect on the general level, but you will surely notice when you play against the big teams that they are lethal without being demi gods.
(great keepers should have around 70 in this skill, 75 should be absolute cap)

Agility is redused, as most other "realism" OF's this is no different, but Messi has a decent agility at 79 in my OF, and I reduced this number static, not by percent. On my BAL player I always edit my player to get 75 Agility, I usually get 79-84 after the scout match but feel 75 is a good number for me as it gives me an agile player but it doesent chop off half the animations when I twist and turn.
Messi and a few others got more than 75 in my OF, but some players look inhumane in real life aswell so I left it like this.

Dribble Accuracy is reduced, because having high skill in this doesent really make your player a better dribbler, it just makes you keep the ball insanely close to your feet even at high speeds.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Maradona is the best dribblers in my OF, Ronaldo at 83 and Maradona at 85 (I single edited Maradona to get 2 points more than Ronaldo because of personal reasons) and Messi at 82.
While this may scare alot of people, the only visible effect ingame is that you won't see as many red cards, while the amount of freekicks is increased. I don't know if the latter is a result of this skill or another edit done to this OF.

Dribble Speed is increased, I believe I put every player up by 15 points, to make up for lost dribble accuracy.
The effect ingame is mostly seen in BAL where your own team starts to dribble on the wings and suddenly supply many crosses. A HUGE improvement over stock PES2009 in my opinion.

Short Pass and short pass speed is reduced, Riquelme is top short passer in my OF at 83 accompanied with the "passing" special ability, while the average passing is around 60. The effect ingame is not as huge as you would think.
Passing speed of Riquelme is 74 while Gerrard and Lampard has 79.
The result of having such low passing skills on a global effect will result in many passes being slightly unnaccurate, while still getting to it's supposed reciever and result in a notable difference in the reciever of the passes based on their Technique skill.

Long Pass and LP speed is increased, yes this might surprise you.
The main reason for this is to increase the quality of crosses wich is by default pretty crappy in this game, I did not increase accuracy by more than 5 points across the board, but the long pass speed is put up by 8 points across the board, and also set the cap to 94 and minimum at 70 so the changes in this ability is huge. While you can discuss wether this is realistic or not, the effect ingame is that crosses intended for an unmarked striker in the box travels faster than the defender trying to cover the striker. Mishits happens often enough and if you don't position yourself properly for a cross chances are still that the cross will suck. This changes are mostly made to increase the quality of the AI crosses in BAL mode, and it works great.

Shot Accuracy, Shot Power and Shot Technique is all increased, on the contrary to the "Total Realism" patch. I have increased these abilities by around 5-10 points each, but put a global cap of 94 on power and edited the hards shooters of real life up to 95-97 by single edit.
J.A. Riise and R. Carlos is my top power shooters at 97.
The effect of accuracy and technique is that the AI will sometimes score on clear cut driect shots from passes made into the box, but the missrate is still huge, and since the response on "average" strikers is rather low they wont start to score like maniacs even with these core striker abilities increased.
I also put a minimum number at 70 on shot power, no professional player today strikes the ball like a grandmother, and the effect of having a good keeper really shows results as well.

Swerve can be left alone, I upped this skill by 5 or 10 points globally, im not sure wether this really did anything to my game but it certainly did not break anything. It also make sure that your BAL player can have decent swerve skill without being doomed to be corner kicker for the entire career.

Jumping is reduced, not every player is Sotomayor incarnates, so I reduced this skill by 5 points and single edited the super jumpers up again.
example: (Ayala at 95 jumping, he does not win every challenge because of his height but he often pressures the strikers to miss the goal because he jumps high enough)
Jumping above 94 should cautiously applied, and remember that a player at 190cm with a jumping skill of 77 is a great air-force asset.

Agression is increased alot in my OF, 15 points up globally I believe, but someone who likes to play longer matches than 10 minutes might consider not to increase by this much if any at all.
Midfield passing still occurs regualry in my game, so I think it's hard to mess it up by overdoing this skill.

Mentality is a quite awkward skill in PES2009, it sets the Determination and the effect of tiredness of your player.
The main effect of "AI supercomebacks" is also determined in this skill so I reduced it by 15 points and never regret it.
Both your players and AI players will become extremly tired in matches that go beyond 90 minutes, but that's just realistic isnt it?
And you will notice that an AI team that pushes for a score late in the game is trying, but won't be superhuman, but they will often get a goal if you aren't careful.
Since AI opponent in BAL mode doesen't get quite as dominating, it seems your team becomes able to play some decent football and sometimes even control the match if you are playing a weaker opponent.

I also globally edited "Condition/Fitness" to a minimum of 5, Players like Riquelme will still be too tired to play all 90 minutes of all matches in a World Cup, but he can play around 60 minutes of every match, or 2 full matches then rest the 3rd etc.
This edit in combination with the "mantality" was also the main reason I left stamina alone.

For BAL players I would like to add a few things, Apply the same edit to your player as you did globally on the other players.

How I do it is by keeping my top speed 45-60 as a start (no one starts out super slow and turn out super fast in real life so a decent start speed is needed unless you prefer being even slower)
I "cheat" a little by having higher acceleration than most others, so I have around 55-65 acceleration.
Max 75 Agility
Response should never be over 85 and I personally never go below 70 on my BAL player.
between 45 and 65 body balance.
+10 attack, Shot power, accuracy, technique, Dribble speed, long pass, and long pass speed.

I made a rule for myself that at the age of from 17-20 years of age I can use all "strengthen points" but at the age of 21 and older I am only allowed to use 6 Strengthen points. If at any point my Top Speed reaches 68 I am no longer allowed to train any speed.

But dribbling technique, short pass and other skills I do not care if they exceed the general database by lots, because you are playing a "soon to become legend" arent you? ;)

You should ofcourse feel free to make your own rules, but if you try to keep your BAL player on level with the global database in core abilities like top speed, short pass speed and 70-85 response, I predict you will have a very entertaining BAL experience.

many different BAL editors on the market, I prefer PRO EVO Editing studio v1.3 (safe) and 1.4 (working sometimes)

Happy BAL'ing

PS. I do not claim to have created any files or anything in the mentioned downloads, I simply used what was already made and tweaked it into my liking. This is also the reason I simply wrote how to do it rather than putting my current file-set up for download.
