In order to try and make it so that everyone involved can compete on an equal footing, I thought I would devise a 'stock garage' of cars that we should all make sure we have.

Because the aim is to run weekly races (events), it will be nice to have a variety of cars to use - split into different classes.

In some cases, we will have one-make races where everyone is driving an identical make and model vehicle. In other cases, the restrictions will be based on power and weight, giving each person the chance to find the car that suits them best from the many available in-game (will also make for more impressive visuals in-game when everyone drives different cars).

The list below is by no means exhaustive, nor finalised - I welcome feedback and suggestions for other classes.

On with the cars...

Race-modified cars

Race-modified cars are all modified versions of cars available in the new car dealership. Each must be purchased from the dealership and then 'race-modified' (you must be in your car of choice, then visit the GT Auto and choose "Racing Modifications"). Race-modifying a car adds a number of different improvements, including extra horsepower, lowering weight and increasing torque, as well as fitting your car with a fully customisable transmission and suspension kit.

Race modified cars are also given a custom paint job, including the ability to have your racing number displayed on the car. You can select your racing number for the car when viewing it in your garage.

Honda Civic Type R (EK) '97

Volkswagon Golf IV GTI '01

Chevrolet Camaro Z28 '69

Racing Modification price: 215,000 Cr.

One-make series cars

Volkswagen Lupo GTI Cup car '03

Power: 139 BHP
Weight: 1010kg
Drivetrain: FF

This car is acquired by winning the European Hot Hatch Championship in the A-Spec Amateur Class.

Mazda KUSABI Concept '03

Power: 204 BHP
Weight: 900kg
Drivetrain: FF

This car is acquired by winning the NR-A Roadster Cup in the A-Spec Amateur Class.

Having won the car, you will need to purchase and install the Catalytic Converter (Sports) exhaust modification. This will increase the BHP from 197 to 204. This costs 500 credits.

Multiple-make classes

For these classes, only certain restrictions apply - generally to either limit the horsepower or weight of the car(s). These classes allow us all to use any car that meets the requirements and will make for some great visuals on-track, with everyone picking a car that suits their style.

All participants should aim to have at least one car set up that fits in each class below.

American Classic Muscle

Power: No more than 552 BHP
Weight: No less than 1,400kg
Date: 1979 or earlier
Tyres: Sports Medium or worse

Class A

That should keep you going for now. I will add the restricted class specifications shortly.

All the cars above can have their body resprayed any colour you have available.

Re the cars, there is the Toyota i was using last night (one of the F86's) which was good fun, or maybe an Impreza v Lancer option?

All I will say is no go-karts. Can't stand the things.

at least I already own the civic (but don't we all). This is a very helpful list because I needed to know where to go theoretically with cars.

it bothers me how much it costs to modify a car. the price of tires alone are ridiculous.

Get a few A & B spec races under your belt and the cash will flow readily enough! Cash isn't the biggest problem on this game...

I have only completed all of the level one of A spec (except the Yari race) and during that time lost patience and began ramming myself to wins just to earn money. the downfall is this cost me a bit in skill learning. but this racing club will get me to race against the cpu differently.

We'll have you racing like a pro in no time :D

In the early days you shouldn't have to shell too much cash out doing your cars up. As long as you race smoothly, the wins will come!

I've only just got this back and I'm knee deep in other game atm, so it'll likely take me a while to catch up.

Had I not just seen your other post, I would have said, "just buy what you need for that weeks trial/race".

Bit late now though :D

I have only got the Civic so far out of all them and it has never seen a track! Don't panic Iron, we'll make sure that events are organised to get as many people in as possible ;)

I like that most of them are FF. FF, from my memory, are quite easy to drive. Like the average drivetrain type, if you will.

We should add like an MR NSX or something just so we can watch everyone spin out of control at every corner.

All of my MR or FR cars spin out or awkwardly spin out everytime I turn so I only use FF cars when my traction control is 0. I first though it was the heavy weight of he car but after reading further in the manuel, its actually the drivetrain that changes the overall transmission of the car

The trick, especially with MR cars it to get straight before you hit the gas. The rule of thumb is that once you accelerate you shouldn't have to lift again until the next corner. It's all in the timing and knowing the circuit and car

I got the Civic last night and will hopefully have enough credits to modify it accordingly tonight. Any tips on earning a lot of credits quickly?

as far as I can tell, given that most A spec prize money ranges from 4-7k (3rd to 1st place, respectively), you have to race about 22 events to get to 110k.

I did the compact car challenge and was pleased to find out that on top of the credits for winning the races, you also get a bonus for winning the trophy so hopefully there are more A spec events like this.

I tried B spec and managed to win the first race but was hopeless on the second with my guy coming off the track and ending up in fifth.

Updated.

We now have a total of 10 distinct classes and you should ensure you have the cars to compete in each as soon as you can.

Priority is still the Civic - this will be used in the first race weekend (next Sunday).
