so under auto trigger settings there is a preset tactics on or off

i have previous to this enabled fluid and set my own custom formations

do i need to change under auto trigger to presets on or off?

also.. say in game i change the button thro defensive to custom or whatever

because i have fluid will the pc automatically change it from defensive back to in possession etc

im just confused

ie i dont want to spend 20 min making my own awesome tactics, just for it not to even be using it (as some of it is so needlesly confusing)!

Preset tactics means the AI will switch between the set of tactics - Main (offensive) and Defensive. (note that the AI never switches to custom)
Even if you have this option set to "NO", you can manually switch between the three Preset tactics.
Fluid formation on the other hand is the way how each preset tactic works. There are 3 options on how you formation will be a) When you kick off b) when you're in possession of the ball and c) when you are out of possession of the ball.

Hope this helps, if it doesn't spell out exactly what you didn't get.

Also, each tactic(Offensive, Defensive and Custom) has team instructions for when out of possession and when in it. These are very important too.

sorry its soo confusing arghh
what if i set fluid formation on
do i still need to go to auto trigger and set change preset tactics to on for the AI to automatically change me?

is that why despite having out of posession as 5 3 2 and a 3 4 3 for in posession, there still would be barely anyone back to defend when we were under attack? cos the AI wasnt swapping to out of posession, because auto trigger change preset was set to off, which means it would only change to out of posession if i manually changed it
is that correct?

NO

Auto-trigger only switches between the main formation and the defensive formation. Even if auto-trigger is switched off different formations for "in and out of possession" will still work.

Consider this example:
Lets say you have two formations- an attack minded one, "X", and a more defensive minded one, "Y".
Now, if you set the auto-trigger to on, the AI will switch to Y in circumstances where you need not attack much, like being 2-0 up or taking a lead in the last 10 minutes.

Here comes the interesting part. If you switch on Fluid Formation, both X and Y will have three sub-parts
- At kick off
- When in possession
- When out of possession
You do not need to switch between these 3 sub parts it happens by itself if fluid formations is on.

If you're struggling in getting your formations right, try some made by klashman , he has a thread under 'general discussions'.

actually i found out my main problem was having auto preset OFF
in auto trigger
when i turned it on, my presets came into play, ie offensive during posession and defensive when out of posession :)
i won 4 drew 4 lost 2 out of 10 games since i did this ( online)
considering in 3 months i had only ever won 2 matches (1 on a pen shoot out), i think ive massively improved

however..... i h ave a question
for my out of posession (retreat) plan, im on a 5 4 1
where is best to place defenders to crowd out attackers
right next to keeper?
or just on the edge of the 6 yard box
as the opponents ALWAYS seem to get that one ball through no matter how much i park the bus lol
