Quite difficult to play at Super Star level

So... I've played a few more games and this is my experience:

- agressive AOD is probably the best, at least for me
- SS is completely unrealistic, the way Belenenses passes te ball around is enough to win 5-0 to the best Guardiola's Barcelona 10 games in a row
- more often than not the opposition just doesn't lose the ball, 1-vs-1 they can always pass, and during physical struggles they are unbeatable.
- in SS the usual fucking tatic the AI uses when attacking is still there: the winger goes by the line, gets back, goes paralel to the goal line, it's impossible to get the ball from him, passes, goal. Does anyone know a way to stop this? They score 75% of their goals like this, and I can't do anything to stop them

EDIT: This just happened. Julian Brandt, a german winger, 22 yo, very fast on and off the ball, with green stamina, gets EASILY outpaced by a 16 yo Van Buyten, one of the slowest players of the game, with no visible stamina on his bar. Please explain

I think this is the biggest thing for me. It's a challenge, yes, but it's a faux challenge. It's a challenge that shouldn't exist. Brighton/West Ham/Crystal Palace shouldn't keep possession like they do. They shouldn't pass as well as they do. They shouldn't be able to play their way out of pressure like they. The one-touch passing, the dribbling, the finishing; it's ridiculous.

Thank God I'm not the only one.

I like to play a possession game, but against these kind of teams it is just impossible. Do you have any tricks to beat their passing or just play in CA?

I was never able to keep possession. My best strategy is to either get the ball wide and play a pass over the top or get it to my #10, draw a CB out and play a pass in behind to my striker. I usually get pushed off the ball in midfield when I try to pass it around.

My problem is not in keeping possession, but in gaining it. I just can't take the ball from them.

What team are you using?

I am doing OK on superstar. Some frustrating moments, but overall fine, finished 3rd in La Liga in my first season and currently 2nd mid way through my second season. Most of my starters have OVR ratings in the from 77-86. My wingers (Greizmann and Munian) have bags of pace- great outlet for attacking but also helps massively with defence. I play 4-3-3 with the ball and a much more compact 4-1-4-1 without the ball.

I basically use the defending techniques that you set out in your previous posts. Let the CPU maintain the shape with the defenders / holding midfielder, whilst I control the 2 centre mids / wingers to nick the ball. Seems to be working well. I use frontline pressure / conservative pressing / many defenders back.

And it works, I don't suffer many goals. But it stops me from playing the possession game I like. Even if when I get the ball I use my strenghts, they have so much possession it is useless (regarding the Possession match stat).

I have to play according to them, instead of forcing them playing the way I want them to play. And I don't like that, at all.

Love the innovative formation, I do remember seeing it now in an earlier post. Looks great for pressing, but I would be slightly worried about how effective it is cutting off the passing lanes in your own half of the pitch- how does it work for that? Also do you play a fluid formation? I have found that to be a game changer for me- really makes my tactics work how I want them to.

I agree with you that it is ridiculous how difficult it is to press a team high up the pitch. The nightmare scenario is when its about the 85th minute, your losing 1-0 or drawing, and they have the ball. I always feel like we just aren't going to see the ball again as the CPU stroke it round the back- I basically have to move my midfield players out the way and get my forward behind them just to invite them to attack.

i don't use any off the ball tactic and only formation i play is 4-2-4 and with this i have to cmf's in front of the CB's, and a diamond in front of the cmf's inc gotze as AMF messi and neymar right and left respectively and suarez through the middle and i do well with this on superstar currently 3rd but have best defence in league but to be honest madrid is just ridiculous on this level they don't loose more than one game all season so :/ semi's of EL and final of La Copa Del Ray :)

What about using the LEFT and RIGHT on the d-pad to push defence up or pull them back? Does anyone of you use it when trying to win back the ball?

Nope, I don't give a shite about it. Too many info for my calculus-filled brain

They behave... funny. It's really hard in the first games to cope with only having one CB, just like any other 3 man defensive line based tatic, but it operates quite well. The CMF and DMF come back really quickly, and Neves is the more intelligent player I've came across in the game. He reads the game perfectly. Also having Varane and Rafa Marquez helps a lot, and even Ricardo Costa is shaping up well to the needs. Intelligent CBs are a must, and that why I sold Distin.

Regarding the behaviour of defence itself during games. Opposition always gets me with their wingers doing that fucking play over and over again, but as for through balls it isn't very hard to cut them off. As the midfielders come down right when the AI gets the ball I manage to protect the middle with ease, and any low through balls get dealt with immediately. If it is a lobbed I use the 191 cm and 95 Header/Jump of Varane to sort it out. In summary, the CB only deals with the long passes, everything else is most likely to be sorted by the DMF and CMF.

No, I don't use fluid formations. Right now I'm on a exam month, so my free time isn't really much bigger than zero. If/When I have the time I'll look into it

Just a few notes.

My last game ended up like this:
So yes, you can enjoy SS, and yes, there are teams that can be beaten if you play calmly, focused and really having a good time in the meanwhile. One of the best games I've played, ever. And games includes other genres too. This match has been of the best gaming experiences I've had.

I'm not sure why, maybe is the more/better attacking AI, but in the last 15 games the MOTM has been the GK or CB in 9 of them. I'd never seen a GK receive 7.5 rating three times in a row. Rafa Marquez was the MOTM in that game, with 7.5, and these were his stats:

Another update

Just installed 1.02 patch and DLC 2.00 for PES2015 PC, and oh my!, does it make a difference. First the new faces, balls, etc. Then the patch, it changes the gameplay completely. SS is now human. Forget those walls with 170 cm that coudn't be taken the ball, the fucking backline, nonstop, perfect possession that made you go crazy, even the dumbass wingers that never crossed. All sorted out. In summay:

- You can now win physical struggles with relative justice
- You are now able to intercept passes and end the AI possession. Requires training, but at least it's possible
- When the AI wingers have the ball near the corner flag they cross around 30/40% of the chances, both lobbed and through the ground, and when they don't you can take the ball from them (no more God-Like wingers)
- Much easier (read realistic) to attack, the defence don't seem to intercept everything like a octopus
- Much more realistic teams and team playing styles, at least so far. The worst ones can't pass the ball around as well as the better ones, so they use long passes more. I'll test it a bit more
