Country is not important. You should see which formation they use. Play only for offensive teams, if they use 5-4-1 or others like that with only one striker they'll have no chance to score.

I play as a winger, Jamie, so three up front provides me the opportunity of playing in my natural position. :) If you play in a more universal position (say CMF of CF) I'm certain this is less of a worry. But the AI in BAL is a bit silly so it's best to play in a more offensive team, like said above, so you might consider.

But I do recommend playing in Holland or France first, since after 2-3 years you'd be awesome enough to play in the top 3 leagues and unlikely to return. Starting there adds variety. Also, more chance of winning silverware early (the cup, most likely), since the gap between the better and worse teams are smaller in the Eredivisie and Ligue 1 (Spain is awful; 2 giants, 3-4 decent teams, a ton of crap clubs).

Just my two cents. Doesn't matter all that much really.

Ligue 1 is good as well, teams are not bad and it's quite easy to get to the 1st team.

Can you still get top teams like Man U and Barce after you?

I played in the Eredivisie for a year and then Ligue 1. After that I moved to the EPL (Man City), and by the time my BAL turned 20 there were Barcelona, Internazionale, Arsenal and Man United.

After a season in Barcelona it's all too easy, Juventus, Real Madrid, all the household names, you name it.

One thing about the dutch league though - it only got 18 teams in it. This means 34 league matches instead of 38. It may seem a small thing, but you will loose som points on that account. I would go for france. Also, if you're playing a cf (like me, talking out of experience) a 4-4-3 formation is less than perfect. The wingers won't score much so you have to score A LOT yourself. That's pretty hard in your first couple of seasons.
