Scoring from free kicks

Now that Konami seem to have put the skill back into free kick-taking (after last years version when i personally found it almost impossible to score from a direct F.K), I thought it would be interesting to ask how everyone else is getting on with this side of the game? I.e. what techniques do you use to shoot and what players do you have most success with?

My scoring ratio is about 1 goal from every 3 F.K.'s (if i use a dead-ball specialist like Pirlo or Juninho). I scored two F.K's in the same game recently with Thomas Hassler; the second was a beauty from about 25 yards using the outside of his favoured right foot to bend it round the left side of the wall because Jan Koller and some other giants were blocking the right side!

there are some techniques to take a free kick.

i find it very easy to score when the second player rolles the ball for you and you shoot it like a regular shot. i dont use this much because i like scoring classy free kicks, but when its neccesary i do use it.

the second type is from close range (16-20 meters) when you blast the top corner. this is quite easy to score, but you need a realy good player for it. i use players with massive shot power and a fair swerve. my shooting techinque for these situations is as following:

1. make sure the ball at the middle of the goal, and its next to the 16 meter line.
2. i choose the player with the highest shot power and a good swerve.
3. i aim for the top corner above the keeper (works better when its the side of the shooters strong foot) and a bit to the side.
4. i press :square: (shooting button) and when the power gauge on i press up on the directional button plus a to the side button to add a little swerve, then i press :triangle: (through pass button) to maximise the power of the shot.

i say this works about 2:3 of the times and this is helpful when the wall is too close to the goal where you can dip the ball above it.

my third technique is from mid range (20-27 meters).

1. i take a player who has the best free kick stats (free kick acuracy, shot power and swerve) that has a strong foot that can bend it to the near corner.
2. i aim a bit to the side of the near post- to the side of the keeper.
3. i press :square: and when the power gauge is on i press down on the directional button and i press to the side button to bend it away from the keeper, and then :x: (pass button) to preform a week shot that can dip above the wall.

this works for me also about 1:3 of the time.

the last one is a long range free kick that is 30- 35 meters. i have no technique for this one because it contains mostly luck. i only scored twice from this rang, both with juninho- the first one was a goalkeeper blunder where the ball went low and he spilled it into the net. the second one was a beauty to the top corner that was pretty strong and left no chance for the keeper.

good luck on these!

I've scored a fair few free kicks but my average isn't even close to you 2's. Will try your tips out tonight. I just usually opt for power and blast one in the corner (if close enough). Managed to score a cracker with Ronaldinho against Argentina in the copa america.

For freekicks sround the box holding Circle to go under the wall works best for me, score about 7 out of every 10 using this method

I scored a beauty with Lampard on the far end of the box once. It barely went through the openings when they wall jumped and it soared into the bottom corner. The goal keeper had no chance. I saved it as a replay, I should record it with Fraps or something and post it.

Im same as Titcha, hold down and down :circle:and should go under the jumping wall into the goal.
Works majority of the time, although sometimes could be blocked if the wall or a player wasnt to jump

For relatively close FK's. Note that this technique is best used (only used?) when playing either BAL or with just a single player in Ex/ML/CL/Cup etc etc and the camera angle is Wide (follows the play from the short end of the pitch)

1. Start your aim from the center of the goal and then shift it a tad bit closer to the far end you're aiming for (The amount of said shifting depends on your swerve)

2. Push the Stick/D-Pad/Key down and press the Shoot button (for a Weak Kick).

3. During run-up, push your Stick to the side you're aiming for.

If done properly - and I mean properly, because the Gauge has to be near perfect - your goal will result in a pretty standard but oh so nice Freekick goal that swerves past the keeper in the far end corner of the goal.

This is me doing this agains't Sweden (Q_Q) in a World Cup group stage match, playing with France.
