Like, some goals will be impossible to defend, either the AI will not allow you to override its control temporally so he can get the better of you or players will just up & run away or push up to ver near the half way line so to be beaten by some random lob through ball. The game actually orchestrates goals or goal chances right in front of your face.
Whereas as in other games everything just feels a lot less "automatic", switching is much better, the game "appears" to do a lot less orchestrating, you feel more in control of your team, you have noticeably way more input to your game, you know, more of a say in your win\lose.
Some say lag... But it's as if the game randomly puts people at a major disadvantage to generate more random.
Is this the future of footie games & sports games in general?
Definitely you will feel in control if you play online with Manual passing/shooting activated.
I would if more played manual. I'd prefer manual. But the reason I don't is because despite its flaws it still hands the assisted a major advantage. You can't pong on manual (when you really have to).
