first time playin pes 2012 today, is it wise to take the assisted stuff off? i didnt put yes for a player not under my control to shoot i want myself to shoot not the com on my team i am confused with these options, the pass/clear/shoot etc what exactly do these mean? also if they are important how do you switch them back on? also it seems so easy for the other team to slip a ball through and be on a 1 on 1, theres also no controls how to tackle without sliding is it x or square? because they do similar things? how do you place a shot? like a finesse button? how do u chip? all this info should be on the controll settings

Level of assistance determines how much the AI aids you, certainly in terms of passing. I would knock everything off, pass. clear, shoot and whatever the assisted options are.

It's up to you how much passing assistance you want, and how much of a challenge you want to be honest. PES 2012 requires jockeying this year, if you dive into tackles or want to get the ball back through 'tackling' alone, then you won't find it enjoyable. I tend to use R2+x to jockey hold, and then release them both to nip the ball away from them, but beware CPU attackers have lightening reflexes this year, so again, jump in at your peril. Placement of a shot is shot button (normally circle) and R2, this will place the shot. Chip is square isn't it? I may be wrong, but this sends lofted balls, long passes basically, so not sure if there is a chip button.

To lead on from techboy's post may cover what he has already said but here's some tips...

As far as assistance goes I recommend turning off shot and pass assist, if set to on the cpu will attempt passes and shots for you. When getting used to the game set tackle assist to normal, AI can be tough to stop and this will help, you will also notice some players attempting to make interceptions and with the assist on they will show more urgency to block and win the ball back.

For a chiped through ball or lofted shot press LB at the same time as your shot or pass input. For a placed shot press RT after the power gauge has been displayed.

Defending will take a long time to get used to but stick with it. Pressing the conservative tackle button is less effective this year positioning is everything. Using jockey can be effective when faced with a one on one situation against a good dribbler. You can win the ball back by simply using the analog to manually move your player towards the ball. Cutting down passing lanes and at times letting your AI team mate do the work can be very effective(especially on superstar or top player). DO NOT PRESSURE too much otherwise the AI will make you look silly.

hmm.. i think he's on ps3.. but nevermind, pes is universal game!!!

for defense, just like techboy, i used R2+X.. just when you feel the distance and timing is perfect, release the X button. but yeah, it's kinda tricky because the cpu this year is very good dribbler. the ball stick to his feet!!!

for a place shot, i used R2+square.
for chip, whatever you mean, even if it's pass or shoot, just use L1+ X or square button. just like older pes if you've been played it.

JFYI, there's a swerve shot you can use for a player with long drive skill card (e.g. messi, villa, rooney). when you're in opposite position against the players feet (e.g.rooney moving down from the left to the center) use R2+square for a low swerve shot, or use L1+R1 for a high swerve shot(which the commentator says 'LOB'). the percentage of it's getting in is higher than the normal shoot btw.

cheers

to attack the ball with ya head do ya keep hold of square or keep pressin square ?
the shots seem weak and the power cage is crap any way of gettin more power or any other button to do better shots ?
