Sunday 11th March - second pre-season warm-up race at Autumn Ring

This is the official sign-up thread for the second weekly pre-season race. As we are still awaiting some new additions (Makavelian, Sminky) to really get going and also there are a lot of inexperienced drivers, the more practice all can get the better I feel.

There will be a slightly relaxed set of rules (in terms of driving aids) to hopefully promote more competitive racing, too. Basically, still working out the kinks before we get serious. ;)

Racing Itinerary

Date: Sunday 11th March 2012
Time: 20:00 (GMT)

20:00-20:15 - Q1 (15 minute qualifying/testing session)
20:15-20:45 (approx.) - R1 (12 lap race, grid decided on qualifying times)
20:45-21:00 - Q2 (15 minute testing session and optional smoking break)
21:00-21:30 (approx.) - R2 (12 lap race, reverse grid decided on previous finish)

Track - Autumn Ring

Length: 1.83 miles
Straight length: 0.26 miles
Elevation difference: 98.4 ft
Corners: 17

Entry requirements

Car: Volkswagen Lupo GTI Cup Car (J) 2003

Power: 139 BHP
Weight: 1010kg
Drivetrain: FF

This car is acquired by winning the European Hot Hatch Championship in the A-Spec Amateur Class.

Tyres: Racing Hard or worse

As far as racing aids, traction control will be allowed, as will the driving line, skid recovery force, mild active steering and the ABS. This is in the hope that those of you struggling to keep control of your car will have a more enjoyable time and keep things more competitive.

Of course, those who wish to play without are encouraged to do so (I know I won't be using any aids).

The Lupo Cup Car along with the Autumn Ring track should be fun! Hoping for a good turn-out. State your intentions below.

very nice nifty. way to keep it going. I will certainly try to be there. My only limitation is my wife starts work at 9pm (our Sunday night is Korea's Monday morning) so we are sometimes running around sneaking everything into the end to her weekend.

quick question - is the Lupo a pre-race modified car when we win it or should we be working on modifying/tuning anything before the race? Wish I could change my number on this car.

Thanks for adding in some racing aids for us granny drivers. The only one I will use is the line as I would like to learn to keep racing w/o any traction control. That seems to be my biggest problem - keeping a line.

The Lupo doesn't need anything done to it. I would recommend getting an oil change, as with all non-new cars - but as you win it is as we're racing it. No new parts need to be bought and the modifications are already in place!

I'm rarely available on weekends, unless it's late at night or earlier in the day (I work 3-11pm).

There's normally a small group available for early weekend cruising, too.

I am quite often on either Saturday morning, Sunday morning or both. Fick, similarly, as is Abu.

There's also plenty of scope for weekday evenings. Come and get involved - we'd love to have you.

I like that later race time on Sunday; 6:30 U.S. eastern time, 11:30 MMatt and Apps time.

I think it might potentially be too late for a few of us over here who have work on Monday morning.

Saturday night, however, I'd personally be game for a later start.

Nifty, I checked out my Lupo last night and it is a raw vehicle - no racing mods in place even though it is styled like one. All the basic transmission, engine, etc are on that thing right now.

I'll need to check on this - it might be that you need to buy a fully customisable transmission for it (20,000 credits), but other than that the power and weight should be as stated in the garage and in this thread.

I haven't got the Lupo yet. Is there any other way of getting it other than winning that hatchback championship?

Ha, ignore this. I tried the championship yesterday and found it tough but I tried the Berlinette R/s Coupe '99 instead of the GTI '01 and it worked a treat.
