Sunday 18th March - third pre-season warm-up race at Circuito de Madrid

This is the official sign-up thread for the third weekly pre-season race. As we are still awaiting some new additions (Sminky, muscularmatt) to really get going and as there is also a fair bit of inexperience in the field, I would still like to hold off on starting anything that will 'score points' as it were.

Driving aids will once again be relaxed to allow everyone to choose a setup that allows them to remain competitive.

Racing Itinerary

Date: Sunday 18th March 2012
Time: 22:30 (GMT)

22:30-23:00 - Q1 (30 minute qualifying/testing session)
23:00-00:00 (approx.) - R1 (14 lap race, grid decided on qualifying times - this will work eventually!)

If, once our first (main) race is finished, everyone is happy to continue we will schedule a second, shorter race.

Track - Circuito de Madrid

Length: 2.11 miles
Straight length: 0.51 miles
Elevation difference: 61.0 ft
Corners: 15

Entry requirements

Car: Volkswagon Golf IV GTI '01

Power: 168 BHP
Weight: 980kg
Drivetrain: FF

This car is acquired from the New Car Dealership. It should then be race-modified (immediately after purchase) to receive the correct specification. No further parts may be purchased, except for Racing Hard tyres (or worse).

Tyres: Racing Hard or worse

As far as racing aids, traction control will be allowed, as will the driving line, skid recovery force, mild active steering and the ABS. This is in the hope that those of you struggling to keep control of your car will have a more enjoyable time and keep things more competitive.

Of course, those who wish to play without are encouraged to do so (I know I won't be using any aids).

--

I think Madrid will provide a good third venue for us. The visuals we get should be nice and I think the Golf will be quicker than last week's Lupo, which will help those still getting to grips with handling their car.

Finally, those who love to go extremely wide will find themselves with more damage, but less time lost, as Circuito de Madrid is enclosed with barriers all the way.

Go get testing! And sign up below.

I'll be honest Nifty, unless someone sends me this car I'm not sure I'm going to get the requisite training in on time.

I have one that just needs race modified. I will certainly have enough credits to buy another one but not sure if enough to modify that.

we could just go with the Lupo again if not enough guys that can buy and modify the Golf.

I have gotten into the habit of just logging on even if not to race just to keep that earning at 200%. It really helps out - you can come in 5th place on race night and make 30k with this bonus. Takes a few consecutive logins to get it up to 200%.

Not that keen on city races :/.
Nevertheless I'm in.

Sminky stop fagging around on pesgaming and go and earn some coinage.
play through the special events to earn fast cash. I don't own the golf but I can't imagine it being more than 30 combined with 100 odd for race modification.
Or you can buy the car and ask nifty if you can send it to him to race modify it. That mother's gt rich.

I will end up in a spanish expresso shop on turn 3 but I like expresso.

Yeah how much does it cost to buy and race ready it?

I think purchase price is 20-30k, but race modifying could be 110k or a little more. I should have waited for Nifty's response - he has this stuff down
edit - from nifty's other post
Power: 168 BHP
Weight: 980kg
Drivetrain: FF
Dealership price: 31,500 Cr.
Racing Modification price: 156,000 Cr.

Sorry guys but I can't come because my Dad will go crazy if he finds out I'm playing up to midnight at a day before school.

If it means both you and Sminky will play, Matt, I'll buy and race modify you one each.

If you mean in terms of 'in game' currency, then yes, that would be greatly appreciated. If you mean you actually pay in monetary terms, then no I couldn't allow you to do that Matthew, as altruistic as it would be.

Sminky, I am talking about in-game credits, obviously.

You don't have to pay 200,000 of real money to get a race-modified Golf in Gran Turismo 5.

:cringe:

I meant in terms of paying a couple of quid for DLC or the like, I have no idea how the setup works. On Need For Speed they charged exorbitant amounts for car packs. Tsk. Kids.

shhhh.

Sminky, you must send $50 dollars to the U.S. to have your vehicle modified. I'll PM you my address or paypal.

Help me out again fellas - when do you spring your clocks forward???
I'm forwarding it by 1 hour at the 25th of March (in the UK). Doubt its' different in the US though

There's a 9 day difference between the UK and US or did I just mislead him with the wrong info. I need to look at my calendar again
