Let's make this happen.

Tomorrow, 7:30pm onwards.

I expect you all there. I will revisit this post after I get back from football to flesh out the format and details.

Rules & regulations

Track: Laguna Seca Raceway.

Format: 15 minutes qualifying session followed by 16-lap race.

Cars: Honda Civics (race-modified).

Will be good if we can get a few of us online. Hoping for at least 6.

Do you mean tonight instead of tomorrow?

I can make it tonight as I've been signed off work for another week.

I was going to say I'm confused...it doesn't help that I thought today was Sunday

<--- The #80 car will try and be there. That is little Iron before he became all growns up. Needless to say the QB underthrew me by a bit; he couldn't deal with my speed.

7:30 may be earlier than I can make it but I will try.

Man alive, I completely forgot about this. GT5 is still in the cellophane where I've been playing FNV so much.

Should be available... may not be much use tonight, but I should be there.

OK, for tonight I'm hoping/expecting to see the following (by about 8pm):

Myself
Appswah
Phatmann
Fick
abu97
IronCity

That would make six of us which means we can actually have a race.

Please let me know if you can't make it (if you get a chance) or if you will be later than that.

I will be able to make it by 8. Typically I may only be able to be on by 9pm however. I am going to get my clock cleaned tonight.

it didn't hit me until later that in addition to having two mikes, we had two matts and one abu. I just kept writing Matt to refer to nifty.

Here we go. All the action from Sunday 4th March at Laguna Seca Raceway. The inaugural PESGaming Racing Club competitive get-together. Before the race got started, the drivers paraded their cars for the media and for the photoshoot.

The cameras caught up with the following...

#80 - Mike 'Stock' IronCity

#20 - Mike 'Pearlescent' Phatmann

#7 - Abu 'Flame red' abu97

#31 - Matt 'Chrome' Nifty

#23 - Matt 'Shoe-polish' Appswah

Finally, the buzz of the media faded and it was down to business. After a quick test lap, the competitors took their places on the starting grid, beneath the imposing and symbolic Mazda Raceway sign.

...and they're off!

Off the line fastest was Phatmann, with IronCity giving up his pole position and having to jockey with Nifty and Appswah for second on the approach to turn one.

A poor start from Abu saw him adrift in an otherwise bumper-to-bumper entry to turn one on the opening lap.

Under pressure from IronCity, Appswah's over-enthusiasm into the first saw him run wide and open the door for Phatmann and Nifty to pull clear approaching turn two.

Exiting turn two, the pack head under the Bridgestone arch whilst one competitor decides it's time to stop off and pick up some gifts for the family...

Turn three saw Phatmann's defensive driving under pressure cause Nifty to choke on a dust-cloud.

It would be at this point that Nifty hit the front, with Phatmann unable to withstand the aggressive style when he was forced wide, with Appswah and Abu visible beyond the dustbowl.

It was Nifty, then, who would hit the infamous corkscrew first on lap one, chrome-a-shimmering in the glorious sunlight.

Phatmann recovered to keep his second place...

...however, Appswah continued to close. Behind the leader, an excellent battle was developing for second place until Appswah run incredibly wide on the final hairpin on lap two.

Fortunately for the shoe-polish-mobile, Pearlescent Phatmann in #23 managed to run even wider!

Aware of the mistake up ahead, Abu and IronCity gave chase with podium places in view.

Despite an early trip to the souvenir shop, stock-white IronCity's #80 continued to keep the flame-red Civic of Abu in his sights for much of the contest, although was never close enough to attempt a passing manouevre.

Nifty had, by mid-race, developed an unsurmountable lead and was isolated on-track.

That didn't stop him pushing the pace and by lap seven (of fourteen), he was flying around the outside of IronCity to lap him at the corkscrew, the Monterey sunshine creating a kaleidoscope of colour on his racing machine.

The corkscrew had earlier been the scene of another fierce contest, with Appswah pressuring Phatmann's second place with some aggressive cornering around the trickiest section of the Raceway.

Further through the pack, Abu successfully negotiated the corkscrew on what was a largely isolated trip for the youngster, who managed credibly in a tough field.

Eventually, though, the #7 would turn back-marker with leader Nifty appearing in his rear-view mirrors.

After a 14-lap race, it was Nifty who crossed the line first, having broken Phatmann's early lead and never looked back...

Appswah resisted the challenge of Phatmann to take a credible second place, eventually pulling clear and lapping both IronCity and Abu.

Third place went to Phatmann on his first outing, whilst Abu claimed fourth and IronCity completing the rankings.

great shots. those pictures tell a tale that phatmann and I were discussing the other day and I was going to use the start of this race as an example but didn't at the time. I had pole position but before the first turn I was already out accelerated by three cars. How can this be. granted I did leave a line a little bit but I think I was passed already and my line slip was an early panic. I need to do some gear work I believe.

edit - I must have slipped my mouse past the shot of me picking up gifts when I first looked at them. Just saw now. classic stuff.

Great photos Nifty I would rep but need to share the love.

Iron, I think it all comes down to tuning.

Wow, great work Nifty! My bad start ruined my dream start to become in the top 3 but seeing from the pics I was well ahead of Iron. Do you have a pic of me finishing the race backwards Nifty?

I see nifty is adding photos with more time. I forgot that I got lapped at the corkscrew. that makes it even funnier. I recall it vividly now - I remember my dog lifting my head as I uttered the word with pursed lips "Nifty" :willfrown:
