Ok I've always played PES on top player but after starting ML in PES 2012,, I thought it's best to put it on Professional to get to grips with it 1st.

A major problem I have is I can't defend for toffee, players just run past my players and if I tackle it either does nothing or I commit a foul, 5 games in and i have drawn 2 lost 3 and there always high scoring games. The major problem I have is my opponent will have e.g. 2 shots on goal and score 2.

There is something I'm clearly doing wrong, does anybody have anty advice on how to defend, I'm getting sick of losing 4-3.

I've found you can't be sprinting to tackle successfully, it's all about timing gauging the players run, slowing down right when you get to them and actually aiming. I've found it very difficult and much more realistic than any other PES before. Awesome.

You hit the nail on the head, you have to time it perfectly and get into position. Right trigger standing tackle is also effective at winning the ball back.

^ You are totally right Sticker. Also try sometimes just hold R2 + X to screen the opponent while your controlled player steps backwards keeping eyes on the ball. Sometimes i just hold square to call an other defender, while i use the controlled player to close up any open space available for passing for the opponent. It is actually quite effective, depending on how long you hold square, the extra player you call for can either steal the ball or just run to stress the opponent forcing them to play the ball back, and you get reorganized.
I really enjoy that they've focused so much on defending this year. In any other pes it was all about pressing R1 and holding X like a mad man

r2 plus circle is great and it is automatic as the cpu controls your kostling and i very precise and yo can acutally rely on the cpu

I must say I really quite liked PES 2011. But Having to time players before tackling now in 2012 is so super uncool and frustrating. Like its not bad enough that we have to time the players for a successful sliding tackle. Another problem I face in PES 2012 is the fact that my seemingly fastest players can barely outrun the opponents. Imagine creating a space in the defence and just needing a good explosive run in and my player is immediately caught up by AI defenders. I can hardly get into the opponents box without facing heavy challenge while they pass around in my box like its midfield training before leaving it in the back of the net. Its totally insane. Considering the fact that they run in past my defenders just fine when its against me, and referee turns a blind eye to some evil tackles against me while pointing out like 70% of my tackles. It gets a bit balanced in superstar difficulty yes but still no shortage of silly goals while i have all the possession. Its so not fair I ve been a fan of PES since wining Eleven and am no beginner. but this... this is very frustrating. besides, from the key features pointed out in the 2013 trailer I dont see KONAMI fixing these annoyances especially the tackles. Sorry to say but I think I 'll switch to Fifa after 2013 release.

Red cards i notice lot players do not know what to do when the proper rules are sorted out you can not bring a player down that is clean throuth on goal and no red card well done konami you got it wrong fifa13 you used to have it right well done konami!

EDIT yet again: I Iain73 said that KONAMI got it right when the game first come out no SORRY KONAMI have still got it WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG! I now have been clean through on GOAL 1 on1 with the GOALKEEPER and before I get into the 18yard box brought down from behind like in all the other PES GAME`S still no advantage played on with your player to score a GOAL! our play pulled back if the ADVANTAGE is not fourth comming and not even a RED CARD 9 times out of 10 still beyond the JOKE KONAMI!
