You need to practice more at exploiting this void in AI defence, my friend. :D haha. No, but seriously, then you will be able to score 10 goals or more in every single game. I can suggest to not sprint, but after each kick off, whatever player that is, just walk with him towards the goal, if any defenders comes to you, use arrows right/left to maneuver and keep going, soon you`ll be in the box and it will get even easyer out there, the only thing you`ll have to do is score. Usually defenders should follow you from behind, but they wont steal or intercept the ball, because they cant, I guess part of programming.

Some time ago I made a video about this, have showed it many times, but I think not everyone are able to see it, for some reason. Anyway, here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mbbfxuzMfD8

That video looks like the game's on an easy setting. The ping-pong gameplay running up to you succeeding didn't strike me as being SuperStar level play from either team.

I tried it last night and the opposition midfield just hassle the hell out of you and get the ball back on SuperStar. You can diagonally weave on sprint to cut across the path of a back tracking midfielder to keep him behind you, but you do need to be sprinting and already be ahead of him. And if you're doing this you need to drop out of sprint or the CBs will simply strip you of the ball when you get near the box.

Yup I concur. Tried it myself, the opposition midfield and defence battered me. Doubled up on me on occasion too.

Bale?

Has anybody signed Bale in their ML? I'm in my third season at the halfway point. Signed Bale coming into this season and thus far I'm quite disappointed with him. Signed him to be the left side of my 3 man attack and thought with him being one of the fastest players in the world, I'd cause teams serious problems by playing thru balls down the left for him to run on to! Surely nobody will catch him right? (remember that goal V Barca where he ran off the pitch and back on all the way down the flank like the bloody Road Runner being chased by Wild E Coyote!?) Wrong! He is very reluctant to make straight runs down his channel, so thru balls are completely insignificant as the defender always comes out on top! Even when I do the ol' flickaroo on the stick to make him run off the ball as I'm coming thru the mids, he just kinda strolls forward!? When ye leave him to his own devices he drops short to get the ball to feet, which is not what I bought him for. I have Suarez for that. Otherwise I can't complain, his link up play, shooting & everything else is fine - as is expected from a top player but I don't see his blistering pace being represented in the game whatsoever. -I'm thinking of switching him to the right side of the attack as he seems to favour coming short / coming inside rather than flanking on his natural side.

I signed Bale during the start of my third season too. Didn't really experience what you're experiencing.

What's your team spirit? Mine is around 97 and I played Bale as RWF and Moura as LWF in 4213. It could be a team spirit thing. Also, I notice during Derby matches, my player movement screws up big time. Forward runs choke and stutter and even my defenders become stupid when trying to track back to cover. They will sometimes do a shuffle step in the middle of a sprint and allow the opponent to get in front.

Some suggestions. Don't have to do all. Just do a bit of trial and error.

1) Push Bale's position high up the flank in the tactics/formations menu.
2) Switch to counter attack football instead of possession.
3) Reduce the number of players tracking back and defending.
3) try RWF instead of LWF.

I play possession football but usually have a winger positioned high up near my target man for the quick counter. The thumb stick flick method is usually enough to get my guy to run forward for the high through ball.

You might have to do a bit of trial and error and shuffling around. For example Pogba plays a bit different for me in the LCM position compared to the RCM position. In LCM, he hangs around outside the box. In RCM he automatically makes runs into the penalty box without me having to do the thumb stick flick. This makes it very easy for my AM to find him with the diagonal through ball. I'm not too sure why that is. Probably due to the movement differences of Lucas Moura vs Ronaldo.

My team spirit is currently 97 too. (Has been most of the season). He does seem to hesitate / stutter in regular matches when making runs.

I pushed himself and the right sided forward - L.Insigne up further last night (actually on the line of the box now), it got Insigne a few goals as he hadn't been on the scoresheet in quite a while, has been running away with assists in the league mind you!
But there wasn't huge improvement to Bale regarding runs. He got the ball higher up the pitch, but his runs pretty much remained the same.

I do play possession football myself which suits me, but I might try counter attacking option for a few games and see if it has an effect.
Might try the less tracking back option too actually -My next option was to do a switcharoo with him to the right side.

I have a feeling it's because I play Bernat behind and wider than Bale, and maybe he comes short to have him overlap. Kinda defeats the purpose tho!
Cheers!

Wow. Just played against my bogey Derby team Man United away at Old Trafford and blew them away 4-0.

I used to struggle big time over the last two seasons (in my third season now) barely hanging on for a draw most of the time thanks to the ferocious press and scripting.

I'm not sure whether it's the effect of the new patch?

The only difference is I now have C.Ronaldo in my front line alongside L.Moura and Benteke and Gotze playing in AM.

Ronaldo is just ripping through the high back line of Man Utd with his diagonal runs onto through balls. I don't even need to thumb flick activate his forward runs. All automatic. When I played Markovic there last season had to do micromanaging. Good players really make a huge difference.

I'm liking the new patch, keepers are better, some night/evening matches but playing a lot of day matches now, it's not to easy to score but is realistic.

The scores are realistic as well, no more 4-2's, 5-3's 6-4's etc, i get a few fouls around the box, yet to get a pen, though I haven't conceded one either or had a red card which is refreshing after PES '15.

Anyway, I'm Ajax, superstar level, -1 speed and 5 mins each-way.

Just finished the Champions League group phase, heartbreaking exit on the final game. I had Juve, Ath. Madrid and Braga in my group, lost 2-1 to Braga in the second to last game and had to beat Juve at home to go through...drew 0-0, Europa League it is where I've drawn one of the fake teams.

Top of the Eredivise by a point from Feyenoord, PSV third. Really enjoying it now, I really want to win a European trophy with Ajax then I'll ride of into the sunset, maybe to a Premier League club.

I got a red card. I suspect it was a last defender thing, but I think Sakho would have made it back to cover at a sprint.

It was refreshing to see it happen even if it was against me, though the player was suspended only for League Matches and not the FA Cup which isn't realistic, but not the end of the world.

International breaks are stupid.....

Reporter: Is there any reason why you dropped highly paid professional superstar athlete, Cristiano Ronaldo for 2 weeks?
Manager: Well he played a couple of international friendlies and came back only half fit, and needed a long rest.

Very stupid indeed. Especially the one right before the UCL quarter-final every bloody season.

Also, it seems all the big matches gets lumped into that period. I just checked my schedule. International break followed by two day rest then UCL quarter final. Followed by Arsenal, Man Utd and Everton with 2/3 days break in between.

Exactly, there's just nobody with any common sense at Konami. Is there any real point to international fixures in ML? They serve no benefit, and are just a hindrance.

With regards to fixtures, I don't know why Konami don't introduce a proper calender - ie include the days of the week, not just the dates.

I've just got to that very period for the first time (nearing the end of my third season) and got very lucky in getting the easiest draw (Olympiacos on 77 Team Spirit). I would hope that half their team were in the same boat, so the manager picked a lot of squadies, hence the low Team Spirit. But that's just a guess. I also got lucky that lots of my squadies were in red and yellow form.

Getting through that game with a nice win, my heart sank when I saw that I had my two nemesis derby teams back to back, but got through those as well and with a lot more ease than I thought possible. 2-0 over Crystal Palace in the FA Cup semi final and putting Chelsea to the sword 3-0, having never beaten either of them before. Chelsea were one point behind me at the top of the table and hadn't dropped a point in over a month, so the breathing space is very welcome. I forgot to check who's managing them, but their line up against me was the same as the current team except that they'd replaced Cahill and Terry at the back with Thiago Silva and Hummels, both at 87 OR. I'm guessing that Diego Cost must have been off form as Sakho had him in his pocket all day. Essentially, I'm now getting to the confirmation point that those super moves against you happen a lot less frequently when you have top notch defenders. The treble is still on and I have Isco and Coutinho coming in the summer. Well, Isco is confirmed but I need to raise £7M more to be able to finalise the agreed deal for Coutinho.

Yeah, some silly bits, but I'm loving it at the moment. I suspect that once this season is over, ML will be too easy for the squad I have. I might then venture into BAL, which was the mode I played most last year.

Mine is too easy at the moment (except for fixtures against Utd). Last 5 results:

9-1 (away at Arsenal) - 6 goals by Embolo
6-0 (World Club Cup or whatever it's called)
5-1 (WCC final)
5-1 (away at Liverpool)
4-0 (home to Newcastle)

Might be wrong by +/1 a goal here and there, but you get the gist.

I don't think the people at Konami who work on PES are actually football fans, the monthly statistic update, controlling players during goal celebrations, making a game where, before the latest patch, users were experiencing 6-3's, 7-0's, 5-2's etc on a regular basis isn't what people want IMO.

The international breaks seem like the idea of a person who doesn't understand how the football calender works, team spirit/morale is pointless as well, on PES '15 I finished 8th with United and kept my job because the players were happy...

It's like none football fans making a game based on what they THINK football fans like about football related games. I think FIFA's career mode is a more realistic representation of what being a manager is like, dealing with the press, player ego's etc, but the game-play is crap.

What's saving PES this year is the game-play IMO, very smooth and for all the faults I've mention above it is actually quite enjoyable.

I'm sure form plays a hidden factor in ML. For example..

I was unbeaten for 14 games winning several with ease then as soon as I lose a game I can't buy a win. I haven't won in my last 12 since. My team spirit hasn't changed so why is the form so drastically different?

I'm in my third season with Liverpool and the team is at its peak and will be for another season maybe two. Usually at this stage I lose interest in playing this same ML team any further. But this year with the team roles feature there is an incentive to play on to see through the entire team success cycle. The rise and fall.

I wanna know if my Mario Gotze and Lucas Moura will turn into Bandieras. Also wanna cherry pick young players to ween them to replace some first team players.

The only complaint is the presence of regenerated players in the pool of youth players. Breaks the immersion a bit. Would have preferred the option of having fake youth players populating the game world.

Once regens start leaving the youth teams I'll call it a day. Most of them are 17/18 years old so there's still time. Also I'm thankfully oblivious to many senior continental league players outside of the EPL so I am ok with buying them. Like Maggio. Didn't know he was a real pro player until I was scouting for a young RB and he showed up as a regen cuz of the great face details. But having a Maggio doesn't break the immersion as much as having a beeping P.Konchesky who is sitting in my youth team but I refuse to promote. Or a regen Rio Ferdinand and Joleon Lescott who although are excellent at OVR 74, I refuse to promote to my first team cuz it's just weird.

Maybe I'll do a Real Madrid ML once I'm done. Import my BAL player into ML.

Or maybe...I'll press on and see if I can reunite a regen Steven Gerrard with a regen F.Torres and a regen L.Suarez and a regen X.Alonso!

I'm pretty sure that the high scores people complain about is because they are playing as teams that are better or level in quality to the opposition, which is down to the game not having hard enough difficulty settings. I haven't noticed it until now, when I've got better players than my opposition. It's now that you want the game to do one of two things. Either make it impossible to keep a team of absolute superstars together or have an even tougher setting that stops you from being able to lazily dribble around the midfield with an untouchable dribbler. I'd expect that to be OK on the Regular setting, but not on Superstar. It is now down to me to turn off all the assisted settings I guess.

All very good points and hopefully these things will keep me interested for longer as well.

Has anyone starting a ML since the last update noticed if the Regens still regen with all the end of career "Skills" from the start? It feels weird choosing between three 16 year olds, as to which one should be the captain. And players like 16 year old Klose being on 77 OR plays nearly as well as Lukaku who is on 87 OR simply because Klose has goalscoring skills that Lukaku (about 10 years older) doesn't yet have. Ditto for the midfielders Plasil, Mauri, Ledesma and Aimar. Perhaps I should start referring to them as "Dunk's Delinquents" (like "The Busby Babes")?
