So after playing hours, more hours and even more hours of PES 2020 on the highest difficulty levels I feel like I have made my opinions about the game. To be fair 95% of this time I've been playing Master League.
The Plus
I think the gameplay is solid, the menus could be better, but it works and the game looks good as well.
The transfers are good as well (even though I think sometimes other clubs could activate release clauses quicker, it looks unreal when they offer 2 million under the release clause and when I reject that they don't come back paying the full release clause)
The Min
But, there always things that could improve and the thing that is the worst in this game are the refs.
Referees:
The referees are horrible. I play the ball with a standing or sliding tackle, but I brush the player after I got the ball: foul against.
I'm stronger and push shoulder to shoulder against my opponent: foul against.
And so on. If I filmed my gameplay I would have thousands of examples.
Also, advantage. If someone gets tackled, but the ball reaches his teammate anyway and he shoots at goal, you can not have the ref give the free kick for the first tackle, it's called advantage!
This also happens the other way around:
I have advantage after a wrong tackle of my opponent, I'm ready to counter and the ref blows his whistle. Counter opportunity gone and not even a card.
As I said, I can go on for hours about the refs. Please fix them!
Now some other smaller issues:
Scouting:
Please put back the option where I can remove player I've seen from my scout lists, or make it very clear which player is new on the scout list, but now it's just confusing and unclear.
Master League Multiplayer:
So I love to play Master League with two (from the same console, next to each other on the couch).
In previous PES games, you only had to select this once and PES would remember. Now I have to select sides before every game.
Player selecting:
This issue is best described when I give high balls into the box from the side. PES decides that the ball is meant for striker1 running at the first post, striker1 misses the ball, but there's striker2 all clear, ready to finish. But then PES does not let me select striker2, striker2 does nothing, bal gone, 100% goal gone, chance gone, me frustrated.
Update: I feel like this has been improved since the last update (in April).
Running Lines:
The amounts of times that a player pick the perfect run and I pass and at the last moment the player thinks, no, no I'm going to stop running for no reason and the pass is/looks rubbish... Please have player finish their runs, instead of having them change their minds halfway.
Making Your Own Coach:
I like to create my own face instead of playing with pre created coaches. Maybe do both options?
Youth Players (and Free Players):
Please make the youth players worse, it makes the game too easy. I have set my own personal rules about youth players (one a season and not before they are 19-20 years old).
Also, too many good free players to pick up, are other clubs blind and stupid? At least increase the competition for their signature (also here I have a personal rule that I can not sign free players as it makes the game to easy).
Anyway, I do still enjoy the game, but sometimes it is also a really frustrating game. Especially when there's a lot at stake.
