Hi, I am new here in this forum, but i moderate somewhere else, using the same php plataform, and we have a policy of not letting threads going larger than 500 posts, i was wondering if you guys do the same here cause i´ve seen threads with more then 2000 posts and i dont think that having those huge threads is healthy for the servers

**small files are easier to be managed then huge files**

But 10 threads of 500 posts will take up more server space than one thread of 5000 posts surely? Each thread having a header, a name etc.

It isn't as though all of the posts in the thread are being accessed at the same time. I'd assume your reason for having threads no longer than 500 posts is because nobody is going to read through that many messages. While true, it'd mean constantly archiving threads - for example, many of the threads in the Official Club Threads section. Wouldn't it also make finding certain information a bit of a nightmare on that odd occasion you want to reference something historical?

I do lack knowledge with regard to how the files are written to the server - is each thread its own file?

Well actually Sweey TECHNICALLY speaking... a thread with 10 posts takes up more resources than 10 threads with 1 post each. More processing resources at least. I doubt the site is short of server space, but when it comes to database processing having a thread which has 1000 posts loaded takes up a lot more queries (that's a technical term, believe it or not) than 10 people loading 10 different threads.

That said... it still doesn't really make a difference.

No idea why I felt the need to make this my first post in months, but hi all the same.

I really have no idea about any of this myself, but I thought I'd just post and say a big welcome back.

So, WELCOME BACK.

Yes, I do realise that was incredibly corny but I'm bordering on insanity here with non-stop revision and exam stress.

EDIT: You may not recognise me anymore, Hunter is the name, although I'm Chief Fiwagboola for the 7 days that I am an elite member.
