Two possibly obvious questions - but a newbie here

Hi All,

2 questions

1. Heading - when attacking headers I get the concept (i.e tap the square button as the ball arrives). What about defending? Do you simply hold down the square button or do the same - reason being is that I concede headers for fun on the Master League..

2. In the match, next to the player, there is a small bar with several coloured levels within it - does this signify stamina? I ask this as when it's red the player is usually knackered out (when I pause the game and check the player status).

Sorry to be such a dumbass - the PES 2008 manual is anything but thorough!

1. Just make sure you place your player in the best position possible before heading it away. You can use X to nod the ball towards a team-mate, but use this only when your are not under pressure or when you are certain the ball would reach the target.

2. The colour bars at the side is just Attacking-Mentality, how far foward you wish your players to push up. You can alter it by holding L2, then pressing Square or Circle.

1. To help with conceeding goals from headers, especially on corners, move a befender in line with the near post & on the 6 yard line. PES old and new rarely vary their corners & this should help you pick most of them off.

2. There is an an option in the menu via the pause screen that lets you alter the ingame hud. It includes the option to hide the attacking mentality, or acually show a little stamina bar under the players names amongs other things.

Welcome by the way!

cheers chaps!

I'll check out the in game menu...I did think the hud display was odd. The column had several horizontal bars -generally my players started out as green and then ended up as red (though I noticed bars below the green one?)

as for the headers - sorry to be so dumb, but I'm still unsure, with defensive hearders do you tap the button (timing it right) or hold the button down?

getting used to the ML - very tricky..like the option of improving players but mine are so far behind the poorest of teams - and that transfer window is soo far away!

keep safe

scam.

i feel your pain with conceeding headed goals from corners. its just something you have to put up with in ML because your players arent very good to start with, hence they can't head the ball very well.

As for tapping or holding. If you press square earlier the player will get into a good position earlier, if you press it late it might be too hard for the player to get into a good position in time. so i usually press it early doors to get into a good position, then press it a few more times for good measure, also to make sure it has registered. i think holding it will work too but i wouldn't like the feeling of pressing and holding and finding out you pressed it too early for it to register and lose the header, possibly a goal.

i supercancel to get in front, then tap it late. i do conceed a few from corners, maybe i'll try holding it down for longer

Just mash the button however you like. In theory the longer you hold the harder you should head it (let me just emphasise the 'in therory' part).

Positioning is the key, even with shit defenders. Use the positional advice i gave earlier & you should see an improvement.
