^ It's not the first time something like this has happened.

Tonight they were in a cup competition against Man Utd. No one expected them to do anything. There was no pressure on at all. For the first time in months they could go out there and play with freedom.
No my friend it's not about freedom or pressure. These guys get revved and hyped up because they know everybody is watching and if they get the result it will make big headlines for the individuals who excelled. Plus it's something for these small time players to tell their wives/girlfriends and children about how they scored against Manchester United.

There isn;t anymore pressure playing us than a lower ranked team who they will get battered by next week like when they play sunderland.

Their players are cheating the fans. They manage to raise their game when it's shown on television against United but week in week out they sell not only the fans but also the manger short by not raising their game and giving 100% consistently

Their players done this crap under curbishley too and I think he got sacked as a result. A stinking club with players who have a stinking attitude.

Lets see if a carling cup run is going to buy them a place above the relegation zone at the end of the season.

Curbishley resigned.

I can see what you're saying though. They raised their game against Spurs earlier in the season but didn't push on from there. Ultimately though, I just don't think they have the players to put on consistent performances.

Ok my mistake, but at the time curbs was getting nothing from his team in the less glamorous games and I think he just had enough.

I forgot to add that there should actually be more pressure and incentive to raise their game against opponents closer ranked to them considering they are teams they will be scrapping it out with towards the end of the season to save themselves from relegation.

But low and behold they only manage to deliver and put in respectable performances against the top end teams playing like it's their cup final every time.

Don't get me wrong, they deserved their win tonight and credit to how they played as they were the better team and wanted it more. There was some pathetic displays from our youngsters and more senior players who played softer than marshmellows and expected to stroll to a win just by donning the united shirt.

Still if I was a west ham fan I'd be wondering why I'd been short changed all season asking why those same group of players tonight who played out of their skins and battled for everything can't put in a shift like that on a weekly basis for all their earnings.

Playing Jonathan Spector in midfield was either going to be tactical genius or pure daftness. He's scored two now, dribbling like Messi. But it could still go tits up.
Quite a few Americans have been saying he shouldn't be playing as a defender for a couple years now. Where was he deployed, centrally or wide?

Game raising waste of space. Deserve to get relegated when they manage to cheat they're fans every week playing below par all season, but manage to play out of their skins when United come to town.
Why wasn't this bitter twat aptly told to fuck off?

You have a god given right to win every game don't you?

Did you see the game huh?

Did you see their players fighting and wrestling as if they were in a WC final?

Obviously united don't deserve to win every game and I gave credit to west ham and admitted they were the better team on the night.

But don't act like west ham play like that every week otherwise they wouldnt be in the bottom three which is my point. If you're happy getting only cup wins to the next round and then aptly have to return to the championship next season then what can I say?

First off, im happy with the win and the performance, seems as though Avram Grant enjoys these knockout competitions. Lets see if we can continue this run.

What Football777 is saying is true and its hard to admit that. The biggest games of the West Ham season arent those of our rivals around us in the league, but Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United, I think Alan Curbishley even said this. Arsenal and Chelsea usually whip us so our fans aren't as hyped for those games.

But it all boils down to the fans, we have a bunch of guys who arent going to be motivated much by our management, Gianfranco Zola was the one who could do that because he connected with the players. He just wasnt tactically smart in the end. When the fans are as loud as they were last night, then the players will respond. I remember the Newcastle game at Upton Park where Carlton Cole scored first and after Newcastle equalised, you couldnt hear anything around the stadium, I live 2 minutes away from the Boleyn Ground and it was eerie.

Having said that the players may be needing the fans to get behind them more often, I dont believe our position in the table can fully justify that we are the worst team in the league right now. Football777, I dont think you will have seen every West Ham game, you dont have an excuse to but our results and performances suggest that we have the tools to get out of this situation before Christmas. Our first few fixtures were tough; Aston Villa, Bolton, Manchester United, Chelsea and we shipped 3 goals against all of them. After our win against Spurs, 5 of our last 10 league games had been draws only losing to Newcastle, Arsenal and Liverpool. I am confident we have what it takes to be out of the bottom 3 by the end of the year, but still in a season long relegation tussle.

To rely on Scott Parker for every single game isnt the best solution for a relegation battle but it is what it is. Theres a difference when he doesnt play and when he does as was displayed on the weekend against Wigan. We havent found a reliable partner for Matthew Upson yet and whilst our midfield is pretty solid, we change our striking partnerships constantly.

I guess that's Carlton Cole's England place secured for the next 6 months!

I'm just angry that bench warmers get called up for England on the basis that they:

a) Play for a big team or
b) Play for a London team

Nothing against the guy personally.

Getting picked because he plays for a London team is bollocks. He was getting called up a lot last season because of Zola.

Come on, we all know that London team players and big team players are favoured for national team selection. Londoners won't admit it though. Cole has not deserved to be called up this season, but he has. I can name other examples of players who don't deserve it - Gibbs (maybe in the future though), Lescott, Upson (don't think he got called up last time, but my point still stands), Walcott (has 3 good games out of 20).
On the other hand, Parker DOES deserve a call up.

I agree with a lot of what you're saying, but I have to call you out on this one. Kieran Gibbs has been superb this season, in every game he's played. In fact, he probably would've displaced Gael Clichy and become our first choice left-back if it hadn't been for a couple of injuries. I can't think of any other England left-back (apart from Cashley), who deserves a call-up more than him.

We are lacking on the left, though I think that Baines deserves more chances. I've actually got Gibbs on loan in my ML, but i play him at LM. Pacey, but ball distribution is shite.

Well...PES is the best way of judging a player's real-life abilities

I think Baines is quality, but I'd have Gibbs over him every day of the week (although I am biased.)
