Been playing Battlefield 4 a lot on PS4 lately. Really enjoying the expansive open maps and the feeling of being involved in a large scale battle rather than the "rats in a maze" feeling of COD. To be fair I haven't played Ghosts yet but I'm guessing it aint that much different from every other COD.

I was playing FIFA for a while (PS4 again) but I'm a bit fed up with it really. I think I might be fed up with football games in general. Folk can argue about PES vs FIFA or current gen vs next gen or PC vs console till the end of time but for me football games these days have the same problems across all platforms and spanning both generations. Problems which I wont go into because they've been well documented in other threads on this site and many others.

In short, football games are shit these days. Online clubs is still fairly enjoyable but thats about it really.

I'm desperate for a AAA title for the PS4, something like Fallout or Skyrim. Hopefully without so many fucking bugs as last time around.

Yeah I have not paid for a single football game since FIFA 09.

I miss the glory days of PES 5-6 on the PS2.

Football games are all shit. FIFA 14, PES 2014, FIFA 13, PES 2013... they all suck.

I've tried both FIFA and PES every single year since they first arrived in gaming and the enjoyment I used to get out of football games has all but completely evaporated.

This should be a golden age for football games. Playing realistic leagues or cups or against each other online or being part of a team online is what we all dreamed of back in the day. It's a shame the developers haven't managed to make that dream a reality in any meaningful way. The tech is there, yet the games are shit. I dont understand it.

It would be nice to believe they'll get it right on this generation of tech but why would they? Football gamers are happy to pay £50 per year for relatively small changes so why would these companies double or triple their efforts for the same return? Add that to the fact there is no competition whatsoever and you have a recipe for continued mediocrity.

Anyhoo, I downloaded "Dont Starve" from PSN the other night and it seems like an interesting wee game. Need to get a bit more into it before I suss it out though.

Life with Ryan

How about you?

Haha, the same! Swoooooon.

I thought Ryan was a dick at first, but then grew to like him. Who died in your game? The old Navajo chap and her (real) mum died for me.

It was a good game, though not without its flaws. How the actors didn't burst out laughing while reading some of the dialogue about the "infraworld", I don't know. I still can't see how it got slated by some reviewers though.

Would've liked for the choices you made throughout the game to have more of an impact on the end - such as whether you decided to take revenge on those horrible teens etc, though I'll let them off since the logisitics of this must be pretty difficult with a game that skips around in the timeline.

I liked the reveal that Aiden was her stillborn twin brother, but it's a bit weird when you consider that he's been watching her ALL the time! Goes beyond (pun intended) the usual sibling relationships.

It was an old Navajo woman rather than a chap wasn't it? She died for me as well along with Jodie's mum and the black guy in the homeless gang. When the building is burning it tells you to quickly go upstairs and save your friends so I thought I'd be able to save him on my way out as he was in the room nearest the front entrance.

There may have been more impact than you think but I agree that there could've been a lot more. Here's hoping someone - probably Quantic Dream/David Cage - builds on this and makes a game with an even wider range of permutations to a story. Did you go to the bar to meet your friends who never turn up? If you didn't then apparently your experience when you have dinner with Ryan - if you have dinner with Ryan - ends differently. That's one of only a handful of differences of which I'm aware.

The reveal was brilliant. I felt stupid for not seeing it coming but I truly didn't as I'd not given much thought to who are what Aiden was after the first few sequences.

The reviews for this have been really unfair. I saw Yahtzee put this at number 3 in his bottom 5 of the year which is incredibly harsh. He did also put Papers Please at number 2 in best games of the year which is ridiculous. While the game is decent for an indie game it's nowhere near game of the year.

Yeah, and the chap was there as well (think his name was Paul?). When that sandstorm hits and he gets hurt, before you do the ritual you can try to save him. I actually didn't think of that, just went straight onto the ritual.

That sleeping with Ryan thing is only a small difference. I don't think it has any major impact on the story.

The reveal did make sense, and like you I felt a bit stupid for not spotting it.

How anyone can put it in their bottom 5, I don't know. Considering the effort put into making this game, even if it didn't do it for you, it's very harsh to put it amongst shit games, some of which will be shoddily made.

Have just completed Brothers. The controls aren't too bad actually. As long as you try to keep the big brother on the left and the little one on the right there's no problem.

With regards to the spider, that was a bit WTF. Makes you think that the people who were trying to sacrifice her might have been good afterall?

One thing I noticed, after the big brother dies and you're on your way back to the house, when you climb up a small rock face it still puts two rocks side by side for you to hang off. Talk about kicking you when you're down!

On a lighter note, whenever you had to use both brothers to carry an object, I couldn't help but think "to me", "to you".

EDIT: Also, you compared it to Journey. I would actually say it's closer to Ico.

Been playing Battlefield 4 today. Used to be a big fan of FPS but not so much recently but was really enjoying this today.
My PC is about 4-5 years old now so can't max everything out but still at 1080p on high settings on my TV it looks amazing. I know proper PC gamers on here like Sweey will frown upon me using a control pad but not really a fan of keyboard and mouse.
Really is annoying using it though because despite supporting a 360 pad it still shows the keyboard buttons to press and when you open the supply boxes where guns are you have to use the mouse to pick what you want what really is annoying.

Really like the addition of being able to peep round corners and above cover.

A controller is fine for some games where it is a sensible choice but a FPS should always be played with mouse and keyboard.

Bastion

One of the first games that made me think "I need a gaming PC" after seeing it reviewed a few years back, and it's as enjoyable as I hoped. The narration is definitely one of the best things about the game, every sentence uttered is a reason to keep playing.

Managed to get my dualshock 3 set up as I struggled with kb/m at first, but with a pad it's great.

F.E.A.R 2: Project Origin

My first experience of a FPS on my new PC and i'm rather enjoying it. Some good horror related imagery throughout, but I can sense it might start getting a bit samey soon.

Finished Lego Lord of the Rings on Vita. It's probably my least favourite Lego game I've played but that could be because A. I'm not much of a LOTR fan and/or B. it's an inferior Vita version when all the others have been played on the PS3.

Finally got around to starting Tomb Raider (have it since release :/) and I must say that I'm quite impressed thus far. Just done the 3 wolves thing with the bow when she's caught in the bear trap in terms of where I saved up so it's only beginning.

The game looks and feels stunning and I'm running on a solid 60FPS and @1440p which looks majestic on the new Qnix monitor.

Finally I must say that I am also enjoying the good variation of random events, kind of reminds me of the late great Shenmue.

Finished FEAR 2. Really enjoyed this game. Probably exceptionally generic outside of the horror stuff, but as I dont play many FPS I didn't care. Scared the shit out of me a few times too.

Played Lords of Shadow 2 demo again today, so hyped for this, even a 4 from EDGE can't dent my hype, look at this sexy bastard voiced by Robert Carlyle.
