i know people on this forum don't like people using the f word (fifa) but i brought pro evo a week ago i feel i have been spoiled by fifa's control layout and settings, evolution feels it a bit behind in this department compared to fifa

??? you can chose any button layout as apposed to the preset ones on fifa

what i mean is they have buttons in fifa you can press to make a finesse shot, a lob shot and normal shot at goal, then you got the way fifa have implemented the tricks into the game, in fifa you have button that can make a player make run, how in fifa you can knock the ball forward with the flick of the right analog stick and in fifa you can shoot even when you are holding down the pace control button something that can't be done in pro evo 09

i am not fifa fanboy or even that much of a fan i think the game is poor and evo is worse at the moment one of the reasons why i choose to get fifa rather than evo when they first came out was coz with fifa 08 you could set shooting, long ball passing, through balls, ground passing, crossing to manual controls which was great and expected fifa 09 to be even better in the manual controls department but i was mistaken and manual shooting, passing was poor, pro evo only has manual long ball passing and ground passing which is done with the right analog stick which i don't like

Maybe, if you read the manual or played the game you'd realize everything you just said can be done in pes...not only that its all been in pes before fifa ^_^

agreed with other comments
maybe play in practice mode and try different shots etc
pes takes 5 mins to play but a lot longer to master
i actualy got fed up with fifa 09 as it didnt "feel" right and went back to fifa 05 with the fifa total manager 05 so i can play fusion matches as that was cool!

I also have both FIFA and PES (both bought on release of PES), after playing PES initially I switched to FIFA mainly for 10 v 10 and switched the controls to manual, after a few weeks went back to PES the manual stick (IMO) is far better than the controls in FIFA, I use the stick for every thing, the only down side to this is that shots on goal are still classed as passes therefore are not shown in the stats, don't initiate a replay (unless you it the woodwork) and more importantly if you have a player in an offside position when shooting the ref will blow up, scored a great lob when the keeper threw it out from the edge of his box and I intercepted and lobbed him running back, only for my SMF to be stood in an offside position not 2m from the corner flag.

In terms of tricks, for a little while I thought that FIFA had it right with the way they have implemented it, however watching PES more closely and noticing the subtle faints and little things that you can do when quckly flicking the controls are excellent, so I think that PES have the upper hand there too.
