It's boiling in my room, it's next to my PS3 and doesn't have the best ventilation it could have, but I haven't had a problem with it up to now.

Does that explain the disc tray becoming stuck and consequently eating discs? Course not. I'm an Xbox 360 owner, and I think it's an enjoyable console, I've not even set eyes on purchasing a PS3, but the fact is, consoles are built like shit nowadays. Fact.

I've had 3 xboxs and only 1 has scratched discs up but the rest haven't, most of the time the disc being eaten are because the owner has moved the xbox whilst it's on.

Uh? In what way is it pathetic?

Because they have not solved a long-standing problem. Pretty fucking lame really...

...Thanks for the confirmation. I think I'll stick with my Elite until it dies, then maybe.

...the fact is, consoles are built like shit nowadays. Fact.

True. My 360 & PS3 have both had major breakdowns and I know I'm not the only one. While the failure rates are not astronomical in relation to the number sold, they are still far in excess of the numbers of last gen consoles.

Before anyone whines "but it's new, high tech shit", don't bother. It shouldn't matter how new or technically amazing something is, it should still be reliable if sold to the general public. To think, if Microsoft had bothered using a decent grade solder or building in better cooling for example, we may not be having this discussion.

Microsoft has apologized to a 26-year-old West Virginia man for suspending his account after it was discovered his profile listed his hometown city as "Fort Gay," the Associated Press reports.

Josh Moore's Xbox Live account was mistakenly suspended for a few days when Microsoft initially believed his profile was violating the service's code of conduct policy. The town, however, is real and has a population of 800 people.

I take it no one got Halo Reach?

I've a friend who works at a local game store and he said they had a midnight release for it and there was about 20 people turned up for it. Personally, I've never understood the hype surrounding it, then again I'm not a nutter when it comes to sci-fi etc.

My brother was somewhat tricked by the hype surrounding Halo 3 and bought it, so I had a go, and like yourself must have played it for maybe an hour or 2, and really didn't think it was anything special, although the bright colours were nice. ;)

I finally saw the full length version of the Halo Reach commercial a few days ago. Everytime I see the advert the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, and each time I watch I tell myself i'm gonna buy a 360 and Reach, even though I dont have a strong liking for Halo (never finished a Halo title).

Just thought I'd vent my disgust in this thread. Recently bought an Xbox 360 starter kit which includes a 60GB hard drive, headset, 3 months live and network cable. It only cost me £31 total so it was a major bargain, but the 60GB hard drive isn't 60GB! Quite like how most things don't quite hit their full memory data space as there is software installed on the things (e.g. a 4GB memory stick is usually maybe 3.9GB etc). Well, this bloody 60GB hard drive is actually 51.2GB. What. The. Fuck. Where in the fuck has 9GB of storage gone? I've just stuck it in my Xbox 360 for the first time out of it's seal so the only things on it are basic puzzle games and basic gamer pictures and themes. I clicked on the options of the hard drive and it says it's capacity is 51.2GB, however I only have 48.8GB left after the standard items were already on it, puzzle games, pictures etc.

I'm glad I've finally got a bigger storage hard drive than 20GB, but at least with the 20GB I got about 19GB capacity at least with it. Urgh.

EDIT: Ignore the above, turns out the 20GB hard drive is actually around 12GB too. Wow.

Thats perfectly normal for a drive as the size increases. I thought being an admin you'd have dealt with this situation before!!??

55GB is the actual size of the drive due to the fact that the hardware manufacturers register MB and GB as a different size than the computer actually registers.

51.2GB is the available space less the formatting overhead and what the system is using. The rest of the space is taken up by the formatting process which maps out the useable sectors of the drive and such, and all HDDs feature a few gbs for a recovery partition, but I dont know if the 360 hdd have this.

My 500GB external HDD is actually more of a 465GB unit because of this.

So would it not be better to advertise it as a 50GB hard drive considering that is what the storage capacity is?

If I'm looking at hard drives for the Xbox 360, I don't want to have to think "120GB hard drive eh? so is that about 95GB of storage?"

With a 120gb you'd end up with a 108GB HDD.

Yeah it is pretty misleading, but the reason behind it everyone uses the base 10 idealogy(1000kb=1mb...), except the computers which use is 1gb=1024mb amd 1024mb=1024kb, so along the way a lot of storage space is lost.

You still get the 60billion locations to store data, but 60billion storage locations does not equal 60gb drive space, it actually equals 55gb, if you understand what i mean.
