I see a lot of posts carrying the frustration that comes from scripting, well I'm here to tell you that there is something worse than scripting.
Yup, its losing to scripting and the person you lost too refuses to believe there is scripting!
I used to play PES with a friend many years ago and to be quite honest he wasn't great (played far too direct - no flair, no tricks, very linear and very easy to read, same thing over and over) but did knowing everything he was going to do pretty much all of the time help me win games? Hell no!!! We got the AI to thank for that!!! So when it (scripting) kicked in my players would be practically thrown out of the way when they got anywhere near the ball with the AI literally driving his team forward (by some very dubious means indeed! I mean even if he wanted to play back down the pitch towards his own goal he'd be pushed via crazy deflections etc etc toward my goal while a parting of the Red Sea occurred in my defensive line again and again!!!). You know those moments when your keeper makes a save but the deflected save lands right at the feet of another forward, often the same forward, who then makes a simple tap in or incredibly the keeper makes a save only for it to rebound straight at the face of the oncoming attacker who incredibly/impossibly takes the ball down with his chin and onto his foot while running full tilt (all in one smooth unsettling movement) who steamrolls straight into the net without even a chance to kick the ball in a move that seems so heavily pre-orchestrated (lol I think even if my friend wanted to turn away from the net he couldn't have - that kind of dynamic overpowering force) that it makes you a little bit sick in your mouth. Lol?
And so you turn and say "there's no way you can't deny that there is scripting or advantage, I mean come on the AI is handing you the game over and over." and they respond "nah it's skill mate. I don't know what the fuck you are on about with 'advantage' and scripting, I think you need a tinfoil hat, you just suck".
Jaysus, if I've ever come close to knifing someone it was then, but luckily and thankfully I held off and over 10 years later guess what? He's now crying about scripting - ohh (the irony) if only (I had a tape recorder back then) there had been more of me back then we could have made a real difference, but sadly it was people like my friend who represented the mass market, and still do, since it's mainly kids who play now and they haven't the sense to see beyond their nose and when they become us and understand a new flock will have taken their place.
Best to just pirate it, sounds awful but if they want to hand you a washed up rehashing that is littered with bugs and problems and they expect you to wait to be fixed after release (on top of the scripting!) then just say fook them because they had their chance with the money you gave them and they chose to be cheap so they can't blame piracy for being cheap since most of us have given then decades of paying loyalty.
Maybe if Konami stopped trying to Rival FIFA licensing sponsorship and instead actually put some money into the development of the game they'd really make something special. But I can understand why the game is rehashed, year in year out - the money isn't there for development. Kids want Ronaldo on the front and Ronaldo costs money. Kids want Official nonsense and Official nonsense costs money. Since EA have pretty much bought into the football leagues with their financial clout Konami cannot match them and so they really should cut their loses in that area and instead focus on creating a brilliant game with fake names and badges (they actually do the latter pretty much anyway prior to the first DLC/Patch).
I could take fake names and all that crap if the game was amazing and there was an editor - couldn't you?
