Your Game of the Year 2010?

Title says it all really.

Think I have all the main ones. If I've forgotten any major ones, I'm sorry.

I went for RDR.

There can be only one.

I became bored of Red Dead Redemption after a while, maybe a few weeks. Visually it was lovely, and even the story was good, but my attention span for large sandbox games is minimal and the constant trudging across land became very mundane to me, quite like how GTAIV soon bored me. I could understand how people really enjoyed it though, especially those with more commitment to the game, and fans of Rockstar's previous works (my favourite definitely being San Andreas).

As for the list, it's a really tough call, genuinely. I may change the poll in just a second though and include possibly one or two more options (including the option of "other"). Alan Wake I think deserves a mention for it's creativity and quite solid gameplay, and it was made even better by it's value for money with it's quick sharp price drop.

I'm very tempted to opt for Black Ops here though. I'd feel like I'm overlooking more story based games though with greater innovation and creativity which is a bit of a shame. The truth is though that I'm genuinely thrilled with how Black Ops has been handled, and it feels like a COD game should do - like COD4 did. The core gameplay is a lot more balanced than MW2, and the kill streaks are no longer as overpowered and influential on the overall game. I didn't expect to like Black Ops very much at all if I'm honest after disliking COD3 and selling WaW after only a couple of months. However Activision and Treyarch have really struck gold with Black Ops, and while they've added more customisation to give the game a more in-depth and detailed feel, the gameplay itself feels more stripped down and back to basics, which is an amazing combination.

As for giving an answer right now, I'm not so sure I can do it because we've had some great games this year. I enjoyed BioShock 2 but it wasn't a patch on the first game so unfortunately I probably won't vote for it, despite it being a good game by all accounts - multiplayer is pointless for it though.

I also regret not buying Assassin's Creed 2, however there's still time to enjoy it, even for a cut price now.

PS: Great thread by the way mate.

For me, the only "sand box"-esque games I have ever enjoyed and finished are GTA Vice City, Fallout 3 and Red Dead Redemption, so unlike many of other gamers I am not tired of this genre/gameplay yet.

However, even if I had played plenty of these types of games before I feel that the story, soundtrack, visual direction...(and god knows how many other positives one could list for a game like this) of this titles would hold it far out ahead of everything that had come before.

I feel that there are only a handful of games each gen that are truly some of the best I have ever played (see below) and RDR falls into this category for me, which is why I went for it.

1) Mario 64, Ocarina of Time and Half-Life were the pinnacle of gaming in the 32/64 generation
2) Then came along games like Shenmue, GTA Vice City and Half Life 2 during the GC/PS2/XB/DC years
3) Now we have gems like Fallout 3, Super Mario Galaxy and Red Dead Redemption this gen.

You see, Fallout 3 falls into exactly the same boat for me. I bought it, and loved it, as I did with Red Dead Redemption - initially. I played the hell out of Fallout 3 and loved the idea of the game, baron wasteland and armageddon, and the music was brilliant too which really helped set the theme and atmosphere. However, after a while, I became a little bored with wandering across the vast landscape, quest to quest, and eventually other newly released games capture my interest and I sell the games I become bored of before their value really drops further.

There are plenty of people who are determined to play games until the end, whether it's for the gamer points or to really grind it out so they can knock it off their list and say they've done it, but for me, if I don't particularly enjoy a game greatly anymore I'll just stop playing it as there's always something around the corner that I'll enjoy a lot more. Maybe that can be something I work on - aiming to finish and complete games, be more patient with them.

Lol, i am one of the least patient gamers out there to be fair and completing a title is often a rarity. You see, if the game doesnt interest me the first hour I play it, then it will probably never be finished, thats why for me if I actually finish a game then it must be something special =]

I'm fortunate in that in the past 4 years or so, my game purchasing habits and my general interest in games have scaled back alot, so when I do buy games I have the time to play them instead of having a big backlog to delve into.

I'm similar, I very rarely complete games. I think the only games I've completed in recent history have been:

Hitman Blood Money
BioShock (1 & 2)
Call of Duty (MW2 & Black Ops)

I think that's about it. Even games that I hold in very high regard, such as San Andreas which I'd consider possibly my favourite game of all time, I didn't even get past The Desert and reach the final island.

Has to be RDR.

Never have I been so into a storyline, invested so much into the characters in any game i've ever played on the PS3. Such a fantastic game.

Narrowly beating Battlefield: Bad Company 2 which is, in my opinion, the greatest FPS shooter experience there is out at the moment.

Having sadly played none of the others I'd have to say Pro Evo but now I've vote I see the OTHER option.

I haven't bought a new game in ages but the Call of Duty: World at War I picked up cheap recently is really good.

While I have thoroughly enjoyed the likes of Fallout: New Vegas, Fable III, FIFA 2011 and RDR amongst others, I had to vote for the one game that I played from start to finish without breaking off to play anything else. That game was Mass Effect 2.

The setting, the story, the action, the graphics & especially the flow of the dialogue just set it apart from the crowd for me. Got totally sucked in to the ME world, much to the annoyance of the missus.

Of the games I've played, Assassins Creed: Brotherhood is miles ahead of all the rest, with, perhaps, the exception of RDR, which is quite close behind. My vote goes to ACB though.

GTA 4 is one of the greatest games of all time, but I found RDR to be a little bit of a letdown. Gran Turismo 5 wins this hands down for me.
