Some useful stuff there. Good to read other peoples tactics.

I'm using the basic default Counter Attack.



It gives me a few options to change it round without changing personnel. Can go heavily defensive, normal or heavily offensive.

It works fairly well can utilise the wings as my wingers both have plenty of pace or can play it though the middle and get some of those little one-twos going on the edge of the box.

^ Quick counter?
Tried it last season when i faced the big teams in EL. Worked great and i even won the final 2-0 against Tottenham (Superstar) However i switched it now, which you can read about on the previous page. I also tried a midfield constellation like yours, but now i'm just using a two cmf's next to each other, how ever one of them is more offensive than the other, so it works fine.

What do you set position switch, compactness, defensive line, pressure etc?

- Regarding choice of captain: Do you choose the one with the highest teamwork, or how do you decide?

My quick counter (still calling it counter attack) is the default one, I haven't changed anything, the reason I have used it is I find players off the ball while your in possession push forward more especially wingers, although I have read and it seems to be true, the stamina level goes down quicker especially wingers again as they are constantly making runs. Could do with a bit more of a look into this, to see if it's true.

Captain wise I have Shimizu as captain (91 Over All rating) most of the times. It slightly boosts his performance and he's my highest rated player by a fair way.

I'll be changing my tactics at the end of the season to have more control over them, but don't want to change too much at the moment as there are only a few games left and I'm pushing for Champions League football. It's a bit of a long shot as I'm 5 points away from Chelsea in 4th, but there is always a chance.

Oh 1 more thing I have changed my Level from Pro to superstar completely missing out Top Player, the game seems more realistic now. I felt I needed to change it after playing Liverpool at Anfield and they "Parked the Bus"

But I seem to be winning just as many.

With captaincy, I find the player that has the highest 'fortitude'(you can see this when you press square and see their stats like 'technique', 'speed', resistance' and 'fortitude'
If someone has a fortitude of a B, and the rest are C's, D's, I'd choose him.
If a lot of players have the highest fortitude, I select the player with the highest mentality as the meaning of mentality is 'how hard a player tries during a match regardless of stamina which only affects his peformances by a bit'
Therefore I'd give the captaicy to him. If I can't find anyone with the highest mentality, I search for teamwork then Form then offensive/defensive work rate.
As you can see, all the preferred stats for captaicy are all in the fortitude section

That seems reasonable regarding the wingers losing stamina when making many runs during a game. I've experienced it quite often. Good for you that you're on superstar now. I also find it the most realistic, apart from the insame number of free kicks the cpu score from!

Thanks for the help regarding choice of captain guys. Think i will let Rasmus Elm carry the armband from next season. I've been having the same captain for 4 seasons now, (the same as they use in real life) but his teamwork is only 68 even though he plays every match each season! Rasmus Elm's teamwork is even higher and he hasn't even played his 1st season yet, and he started with 17 in teamwork. I find this a bit strange..

Teamwork goes down drastically when a player joins a new club, then goes up quickly as he settles in.

I have never really noticed much of a difference with the captain though. Is the general feeling that it makes more of a difference in this PES?

I have been experimenting with 442 and it does seem far more effective than in previous PES versions. They midfield AI seems much better, and one midfielder will often hold back whilst the other attacks. However I still prefer the 451 or 433 with a proper holding midfielder, sat infront of the back 4. I just find that player absolutely crucial if you want to push players forward in the attack, particularly if you are playing a posession game.

Absolutely. Having that Rock in midfield who's soul purpose is to break up opposition attacks and protect the back 4, I find is needed if you play an attacking formation otherwise you will get murdered on the break.

Anchor Man or/and Enforcer cards are good for that type of player, although I haven't found a player who has both.

Naah, it's just to add some realism to the game. I wanted the same captain as FC Copenhagen in real life - however he's played almost every game for 4 seasons now and he's only 68 in teamwork being 24 years old!
Rasmus Elm hasn't even played his first season yet, and he's 70 in teamwork!!! My point being that the first player is increasing waay to slow and Elm waay to fast.

The only difference as far as I can see is that the captain can hold up the cup or trophy but that doesn't have an impact really :S
