Questions relating to the game should be posted here. I will update this post in time to include the rules and new changes to the points etc.

The big question - are we going to pursue the contracts idea touted during last season? In essence, are we making this game a multiple-year platform?

Another suggestion: Addition of a 'make bid public' checkbox on the Google form.

Making a bid public would mean the media were alerted and were more likely to post a story about your bid whilst the auction was in progress, therefore losing you the element of surprise. However, if you are the first manager to make a bid for that player, your speed in the transfer market would be rewarded, with a value of an extra 10% (amount could be tweaked) being added to your bid, free-of-charge, when working out the victorious bidder. Effectively, you gain an advantage by bidding for a player first and announcing it publicly, simulating the pressure put on the player to tie up a deal or at least respond.

For example, if I bid £5m on player X and decide to make it public and I am the first bid for that player, although it significantly increases the chance of the bid being reported in the rumour mill (i.e. the media), it does mean I have effectively tabled £5.5m. A subsequent offer of £5.2m by a second manager would not actually win this auction, with me winning the auction and only paying the sum of £5m as per my original bid.

Obviously the amounts being bid would not be disclosed entirely accurately otherwise the extra 10% could easily be negated.

Just an idea that came to me now as I considered the bidding form. Thoughts?

Why not, out of interest?

The option would be entirely the manager's making the bid and it would simply increase the likelihood (or reputability) of the source that reports on that particular story in the rumour mill.

I just thought it might be a cool little addition to the process - and it would simulate what happens in real life (clubs - or player's agents - quite often make public announcements about transfer bids and this also quite often gives them the upper hand in the negotiations with that player).

^I think my no vote is wrapped around the way we did it last year or at least the way I was thinking of it working so if you were on a different line of thought than I could think differently.

but I said no under last season's premise of; bidding takes two days, one day off to get the results. Reiterate the process again.

Not everyone has the chance to view what is happening in that time frame, particularly with a larger group of people so an unfair advantage/disadvantage is created. I think last years January window worked well with two days on, one day off to see the results. Everyone has a chance to regroup and think what their next strategy is. The early window got messy when it was more straight-thru bidding over two days with no break...one of the most annoying things I find on this site about fantasy games is how stretched out threads can become because of multiple posts. We can't typically track items. So, when there are bidding clues being passed out, not everyone can always see them or react to them in a short time frame.

We have a short time to get this finished. Last year it took a long time. And adding too much complexity to a game that relies on visiting 15 pages of old posts just doesn't work well. That is why I vote for a simplistic approach - 2 days blind bids, 1 day result, start the process over. No tricks or side info to worry about.

I probably did not clarify myself well above.

I'm interested, would anyone be kind as to point me in the right direction with regards to how you play this game and what goes on, what to do + what not to do, etc etc.

Is it as simple as - you get a transfer kitty, you bid for players and various other things, 'til you've got a squad you're happy with, and then you pick your lineup each week, and say you've got Torres up top, and he scores a hat-trick for Chelsea, you're gonna be going up the table?

I'd like to take part if there are spots to fill.

The general principle of players scoring points for your team based on their real-life performances remains true. The game is based on the English Premier League.

Each team in the fantasy league has a unique squad - any real-life player can only be owned by a single fantasy league manager.

Bidding for players takes place in pre-season and during the January transfer window. Bidding is blind auction-style (sort of), meaning you don't know what other people have bid. In fact, you don't even know if other people have bid.

The full bidding rules will be fleshed out within the next couple of days and I will open a thread with a full breakdown.

The highest bidder for any player is allocated that player and the money is deducted from the manager's budget.

Throughout the season, the points your players earn you also convert into money, which will give you more of a transfer kitty in the January window.

There is more to it, but those are the general points.

In terms of squad sizes and budgets - forgive my memory - It will be 23 and budget for players £125m to start, with minimum bids for each player beginning at £3m.

As with last season you forfeit a million when releasing a player.

I want another 3 teams. Nifty & Hunter, I've yet to see either of you bung you hat into the ring, also, no sign of Abu yet.

I think it was 21 players, but you have the $125m correct. and yes, 3m min bid; 1m penalty to forfeit a player.

I think we want at lest 16 teams and that should be an attainable target over the next few days.

The likes of Joel, Hunter, Makavelian, Bish, Ziss, etc? All regular contributors. BarnDoor and Jonno are easily active enough to participate, too. And your old pal, Fick. Surely. Bammers is also a sure bet.

I did mention before I would probably sacrifice taking part in order to spend more time administrating. Maybe take the role of 'the media' to ensure continued and prolongued interactivity in between game weekends.

Our previous squad size was actually a minimum of 21 players, I believe, with a minimum of two goalkeepers, four (five?) defenders, four midfielders and three (four?) strikers amongst those?

Sminky - any other means of having a real-time discussion easily to yap about this further right now?

Joel has no interest in these competitions, the same will apply to Barn, Jonno and Fick.

In terms of squad sizes, on reflection we should do as the Premier League do, you submit a final squad of 25. I believe with the amount of players available it should make competition for players fiercer.

You ought to join Nifty, I am and I'm going to be losing hours to excel, so if I can, I'm sure you can plonk a team in. It surely can't be as bad as last season

True, but as the man who will be running the bidding process I'll need to sort of do what I did before and just throw it out there that everyone will have to take my word on it that I won't cheat.

If people are happy with that, I'll join. Still think it would be good to have a non-participant 'mediawatch' type thing running alongside the game to keep regular updates, look out for random facts and whatnot.

I will defer joining until it appears that I am really needed.

Think we should make a decision on squad size once we have final numbers in terms of teams. I think we should aim for 16 and hold off until we get to that number (if it looks likely).

Nifty - if you go two days bid, one day rest and report, you can simply not view the bidding sheet until that midnight last day. That is how I handled it. The first bid period I bid before anyone else did but that wasn't sustainable with my schedule, so I just stayed away until I made all of my max bids.

I would trust your scout's honor not to look. (see, another reason to go 2 days on, one day off).

I'd be surprised if we could get 16 players, especially 16 who'll take it seriously.
