Hey guys, I am running the Bupa Great Yorkshire Run (10km) on Sunday the 2nd of September 2012 in Sheffield City Centre, fundraising for Cancer Research UK.

I don't know how realistic this is but when signing up I had to give myself a fundraising target so I just said £100.00.

I was wondering if any of you would kindly donate via. this website, any donation would be greatly appreciated and all money goes to a great cause!

Cheers

Hows the health / fitness / training / weights going guys?

I'm currently weight training at home which is pretty liberating as I'm no longer restricted to gym opening times and I am free of the monthly fees. I have the bag up now too and thanks to speedbag forums I have round timers for 2 or 3 minute rounds.

I'm making progress now thanks to a decent diet, supplemented with plenty of protein shakes as well as creatine.

i am OCD about germs so i will be getting a fully fledged home gym following our house extension.

including power rack, olympic barbell, lat machine (integrated within the power rack), bench.

it's pretty expensive but i'm more than happy to pay for it to avoid paying £30 a month for gym as well as avoiding sweaty and dirty palms all over gym equipment of public gyms.

Not sure where else to ask but can anyone recommend a good pair of running socks/anti-blister socks or even some sort of treatment for hard skin on feet?

It's just that after a match of football my feet are on fire and I seriously need to get it sorted as it's rather annoying. At the minute I just tend to wear a pair of socks under my football kit socks. Cheers.

I stopped doing that because it was giving my feet blisters and ballsing up my circulation. Your best bet is to it moisturise your feet days building up to playing if you've got hard skin.

Also might be worth checking whether your football boots are too tight or too loose.

OK, thanks for the tips. I only wear a light pair of black socks, something you'd wear with shoes but perhaps they're doing nothing for me...

For a while I had Puma Kings and they were rubbish and I don't think they helped the problem so I recently bought new boots and they're a much better fit.

Would vaseline work?

I can't say I ever really got many blisters from playing football. I used to wear two pairs of socks - usual thin socks, and then football socks over the top - and then of course tight boots.

But as for blisters, I seem to get them whenever I play tennis - I guess running back and forth on concrete for 3+ hours will likely do that to you. These are excellent blister plasters though, they're like magic when it comes to protecting them:

Been doing this abs workout now for a couple of weeks, pretty intense.

First time I did it I couldn't even complete it, now I can do it all apart from the last set of iron butterfly's or (whatever they're called).

May have to try some of those. I do the bicycle one anyway. Mostly do planks for abs.

Hate exercising in this weather but holiday at the weekend, gotta put the work in and face the pain.

I'm on my abs workout day today but really don't feel like doing it because of a bit sunburn on my stomach

Yep for match days, just enough to leave your feet feeling supple. I'd stick to a standard moisturiser days building up to the game.

I am not looking forward to five-a-side in this heat tonight.

Me neither. I'm feeling a tad tired from lounging in the sun. I might just go to sleep instead, I hate playing football in weather like this, drains the hell out of you

I'm thinking about starting a routine similar to this to do every day. Since you've been doing it for a couple of weeks, are the results already noticeable?
