200 mins though Sho, that's dire. They can afford to offer you more minutes than that. Although don't go as high as I did, I've got bloody 900 a month and I barely use the blasted things.
I'm going to get my next contract off contract. I'll stick with Vodafone but I just won't tie myself into a new contact. I don't really want to pay more than £400 for a handset though. In terms of hardware availability the latter stages of this year, does anyone have any recommendations?

Not sure you're going to want to pay the ridiculous price for it Sminky. It would appear, that everyone is expecting the Galaxy S III to wipe the floor with all the phones currently being announced at MWC. As it is due out around May, it should be slightly reduced by the time I get a new contract in November/December. If you're happy with Android and don't want a phone as expensive as the S III, I expect virtually every other mid-to-top range phone will be compared to it but its difficult to tell right now, especially where battery life is concerned. Even more difficult to work out quite which WP7 handsets will be available. |

Probably not the best time to get a Galaxy S II if you're at all concerned with having one of the best phones out at the time you take the contract. If you are bothered with that, try to wait until the summer.

I'm really not a fan of iPhones but purely because I'm a dinosaur when it comes to handsets, I want buttons ... or at the very least a touch screen interface my wobbly old fingers can use.
I feel a sense of resignation about it all though, it seems unrealistic to buy anything other than the iPhone5 due how good the spec will be. I quite fancy the Motorola Razr reboot but suspect its probably utterly shit in comparison.

Spec-wise it will certainly be up there but as Apple fanboys will happily tell you due to the iPhone recently having inferior hardware to its rivals, "specs mean nothing". They're not entirely wrong but they're not right either - specs mean something to a point but then OS optimization comes into play. A quad-core processor is a must given the way rivals have already confirmed them for their own products. The biggest aid will be in raw computing power with gaming I would suspect - I'm convinced I could underclock my Galaxy S II a little without seeing an impact on performance. 4G/LTE would be a ridiculous omission (makes no difference in the UK until late 2012 but certainly would in the US) given the number of rival products which already have it and the number which will include the ability when they launch in the next six months. There are rumours of a bigger screen (3.7" or 4") with an obvious trade-off to battery life which should be softened by a more energy-efficient processor. Again, nothing here that others haven't already done or exceeded. Should they go with the 4" screen I'll watch for all the Apple lovers who have criticised other phones because "you don't need a screen larger than 3.5 inches" suddenly proclaiming how forward-thinking Apple have been. Personally, I couldn't use a screen smaller than the Galaxy S II (but couldn't go much larger either). As for cameras, I couldn't give a flying toss if anyone comes out with a 900MP shooter - the actual thing that matters is the lens for quality of lens and that is somewhere that Apple's rivals tend to struggle. My Galaxy S II takes amazing pictures....if it focuses correctly which it doesn't do well enough in my opinion. You still reading old man? Basically, you can't be certain what phone to get as things stand - too much is expected to happen (iPhone 5 and Galaxy S III being the leading lights). |

Not me Sho and there is only (limited) stock of the 16GB white at the moment. Samsung had issues with the coating on the back cover of the blue so that's been delayed 2-6 weeks depending on who you believe.
I may purchase it (16GB blue) in August although that depends on when I buy the Asus Zenbook Prime. I'm one of these tight-fisted types who has money but doesn't like to spend it too often so if I make a large purchase I'll very often refuse to make another large purchase for at least three months. I'm currently extremely happy with the performance of the Galaxy S II on the WXLPF firmware I'm using. Since XWLPD, battery life has been far better. EDIT: Nice, XWLPW went live last week and now XWLPG has arrived. Me be upgrading firmware again once the ICS Domination 4.5 theme is released. |
