Best tech for portable e-reading?

My personal requirements include reading novels, magazines, newspapers,me dical books, comics and graphic novels. To be honest this would be more or less what someone would to be able to do for the money they pay...

The kindle and dedicated e-readers seems great but it will rob me of colour, illustrations in medical books will become a pain in the ass...so should i just get a tablet?Ipad mini?Android tablet,i started hating e-reading after trying it on my droidphone..

The e-ink screen seems great to read but is it really less straining for the eyes than reading on a tablet, personally when i was checking it out in a store for 10 min and unglued my eyes from its screen,i felt pretty dazed.

What are your experiences and suggestions,i do not care about the other functions available on a tablet,i already have a laptop and droid phone for that...for my requirements what would be your advice, guys?
