The best is probably Dell, although building your own is the best option, which I do (AM I COOL YET?)

To be honest I'd say to stay clear of Dell but aside from that I'm not actually much help when it comes to pre-built computers. I'm a components monkey.

I'm not sure either, but I know HP etc all those type of pre-built PCs are crap. Alienware is just exorbitant.

HELP! People with ANY computer knowledge!

Hey, I have a problem with my USB ports.. well, as far as i know, they should be working fine, however when i plug a USB into the port, no matter which port (i have 3) i always get a 'safely remove hardware' icon. This icon is the only thing that happens when something is plugged in, not even a removable device appears anywhere. This is very annoying, especially when updating an iPod for example, which is actually impossible as this icon prevents any access to the damn thing.

If you're a little confused, this is what comes up:

(it's the first icon on the left, the one with the green arrow.)

please if you have any suggestions let me know!

cheers, FE.

Er, that's supposed to show up. You click on it before you take a USB out of your PC to stop any data loss or something occuring. You should be able to see your USB device when you click on 'My Computer'. If not, that is quite strange, but the icon is perfectly normal.

Not if you plug in a non-storage device.

Eddie how long have you had this problem?

as soon as anything is plugged in, that icon shows up. Nothing appears in 'My Computer', nor does a window pop up that usually gives you a couple of options. iTunes doesn't recognise that an iPod is plugged in either. This doesnt only apply to iPod's either, it's any USB. I may try reinstalling my drivers, but i dont wanna cock up my computer.

EDIT: Just saw your post, Original. I've had the problem for quite some time now, searched around on google for some closure on it but had no such luck. Only just occured to me that i may aswell ask around on a few forums i post on. Any ideas man?

The iPod might be trying to act as the same drive letter as your CD-ROM drive. I'm guessing you have an external DVD or CD drive (I hope!) set as, say, D which is what the iPod is trying to become. Disconnect that drive if possible and try again.

With regard to it being any other product, do you have a powerful enough Power Supply to support the extra juice required to use the USB device? If not, it simply won't function.

No, no. I have a laptop. Only have a standard set-up, nothing extra added. The USB ports have previously worked, it was completely random that it started to do this and it's been the same since.
