I was surprised too. How can a player that didn't play one match in the entire season be our number 10. He didn't even deserve to be called for the World Cup. It's ridiculous.

I dont think hes a bad player, but considering theyve left Quaresma, Tomas & Moutinho out then questions have to be asked...

Moutinho played well yesterday, should have gotten a chance. Some odd choices by the man in charge. Suprised to see Helder Postiga.

I think Portugal have a good chance of getting to the semi-finals this time. Lots of skill in the squad, plus Portugal can play very well as a team these days. Shame about Quaresma not being on the team though.

I am not saying that he is a bad player. The kid has some talent, but he didn't play one match in this season. The same goes with Maniche and Costinha, but Scolari insists in calling them.
Besides the players that you have already pointed out, taking Bruno Vale to the World Cup, who is already playing in the Under-21 Euro, instead of calling Paulo Santos (in my opinion, the best keeper in the Portuguese league for the past 2 seasons) is the most shocking one.

Sorry for the double post but Paulo Santos (Braga's keeper) was called by Scolari. He is going to replace Bruno Vale, who suffered an injury in the U-21 Euro match against Serbia & Montenegro. I feel sorry for Bruno Vale, but he is young and he will have the next World Cup to shine. Paulo Santos finally get what he deserves, a place in the national team (although he should be the first keeper and not the third).

Singh has stepped out of the darkness into slightly less darkness

Did you know? The Portuguese squad were so unhappy with their training camp at Saltilho, Mexico in 1986 that they threatened to go on strike. One practice match saw them line up against staff from their hotel.

World Cup is the time to see the best players, but would be also great to see the best young and upcoming stars, and by that, I mean Quaresma. I have been impressed with Quaresma whenever I have seen him. He has both skill and ability. And the big advantage is that he can cross with the outside of his right foot. I was quite shocked to see him not make the World Cup, but hopefully we will see him at Euro 2008.

Today is Portugal's first match in the tournament and there are a few surprises in the starting eleven. Tiago is going to play instead of Costinha and Deco is injured, so Figo is going to play in his place and Simão is going to play on the left. The team will be like this:

Ricardo
Miguel
Fernando Meira
Ricardo Carvalho
Nuno Valente
Petit
Tiago
C.Ronaldo
Figo
Simão
Pauleta

Looks a pretty solid line-up to me. Not expecting a shock in this game.
