PES 2011: Attention to Detail,

With the release date of PES 2011 getting closer, I wanted to take the time to talk about an aspect of the game that has little to do with the actual gameplay.

Of course, I am talking about the Edit Mode,

PES lacks licenses, therefore, it should compensate for the lack of licenses by giving the user more details -- this is an area where Konami never improved and has actually gotten worse over the years,

Back in the PS2 days, PES compensated for its lack of licenses by giving the user more details and freedom over certain aspects of the game.

Now as most people know, since the leap to current-gen consoles, not only has the Edit Mode not improved, it has actually gotten worse...

We know that at this late stage, our gameplay suggestions will NOT affect the end product; therefore, I wanted to talk about realistic suggestions, small details that can add to the overall package of the game, suggestions that can still make it to PES 2011.

Use this thread to post any suggestions or requests that have nothing to do with gameplay issues,

I have two requests in mind,
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1st Request: Classic Players with real names and faces,

I am something of a fan-boy of real-life Football and, over the years, having watched a lot of players from different eras; I have always imagined things, like for example, how would Romario play with Riquelme? Ronaldo with Valderrama? Pele with Xavi Hernandez?

One of my favorite Editing features about PES5 and PES6 was the Face Editor. It gave you a lot of freedom, over 100+ hairstyles, over 200+ preset faces, and it even had "special hairstyles" of classic players.

This gave the user enough freedom to create accurate-looking classic players and classic teams; although of course, this was not for everyone... some people prefer to keep it as realistic as possible,

But as a fan of the series myself, one of the things that I liked the most about PES was the freedom it offered to the user; the user could decide to keep it as realistic as possible, but if he wanted he could go down a more fantastic route.

So,

Instead of just asking for the same thing that we had back in the PS2 versions, I am asking for an improvement, and one way of improving in this respect would be to simply include "hidden" classic players with their real names and faces,

EA Sports has already done it with FIFA, a Classic XI Team with players like: Franz Beckembauer, Franco Baresi, Zico, Eric Cantona, Gheorghe Hagi, Hugo Sanchez, and many others.

The negative points with the Classic XI Team that features in FIFA:

1st -- even though they have their real faces and names, like most faces in FIFA10, they don't look very good...

2nd -- the lack of player individuality, classic players do not feel distinctive nor unique,

3rd -- you cannot use classic players in Manager Mode, you can only play Exhibition games,

This would not be a problem with PES,

Because PES offers great player likenesses, decent player individuality, and also gives the user the option of using or not using "classic players" in the Master League Mode.

Thus the hardcore fans of real-life Football, the fans who fantasize about impossible line-ups... they could assemble a Classic XI Team and use it in the Master League Mode -- without -- it feeling generic and cheap,

That's the type of freedom that the PS2 versions of PES offered,

If PES 2011 had "hidden" classic players who looked as good as Messi and the rest of the modern-day stars, that when they have the ball at their feet the commentators will say "Zidane with the ball" or "Baggio with the ball" -- this would give the user a small incentive after winning a title,

Something that PES is currently lacking... you win titles and you win "world player of the year" awards and, what do you get in return?

You win a trophy that has no actual use in-game, or you "unlock" some classic player with a random name, a generic face, and unrealistic stats.

How different would it feel, if after winning a title -- you got to "unlock" a true-to-life representation of Pele?

PES has always featured players with their real faces, even the players of the EPL have their real faces and names (despite Konami not having the EPL License) -- if EA Sports is doing it with FIFA, why can't Konami do the same with their game?

A few "hidden" classic players with their real faces and names -- would be easy to implement and would add something to the overall package of the game.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2nd Request: Kit Editing,

I have always wanted a couple of new options for Kit Editing, unfortunately, it has not improved, instead, you could argue that it has in fact gotten worse.

Back in the PS2 versions of PES, you could create very accurate uniforms... but there was always one small difference between a genuine konami-made uniform and a user-made uniform,

So instead of just asking for something that we already had in PES5, this request is very simple, new features for kit editing:

* ability or option of placing logos in the socks,

* ability or option of placing logos in the sleeves of the shirt/jersey,

* ability or option of tweaking with the length of the shorts -- making it possible to create accurate representations of classic teams, and also adding a certain element of "team individuality"

* ability or option of tweaking with the size of the shirt/jersey -- this could work individually, that is, the size of the shirt/jersey could be different for every player; thus adding another element of "player individuality"

Although it would not affect the gameplay in any way, this would surely be noted in-game, adding new elements of team individuality and player individuality,
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

* Actual Use of this Thread: (reminder)

Since the leap to current-gen consoles I couldn't help but feel disappointed with the lack of improvements in all areas of the game. I still cannot understand how a PS2 game has a better Edit Mode than a PS3 game.

In terms of non-gameplay issues, my main disappointment was with the Face Editor and Kit Editor; instead of improving, it actually got worse.

I would like to know what you think about the classic player request (1st Request) and the kit editor request (2nd Request) -- and -- would appreciate if you could add your own request or suggestion,

Use this thread to make any suggestion or request that has nothing to do with gameplay issues,

Also, if any of you guys are interested in Classic Players -- I want to make this thread as useful as possible, so knowing how Konami works with their photo-realistic faces,

Feel free to post a link (or links) to a picture of the Classic Player that you want to see in PES 2011, the picture is important because that's the face that would make it into the game -- also -- feel free to post the STATS of the classic player,

I like the ideas, but the first one is not easy, as having right names and faces requires licenses, and if Konami can't have a lot of licenses for current players, they wouldn't bother paying for classic ones.

I respect your opinion,

But I have to say that I do not agree with your opinion, I think classic players deserve a lot more respect and attention,

Considering that PES is a game that prides itself on having the best player individuality, I would have to say that spending a bit of money on getting Classic Players into the game is a good investment,

Certainly much better, than acquiring the License of a League that no one cares about... And I am not talking about Licensed Teams, I am talking about some 10 or 20 additional Faces to the game, that should be very cheap,

I can imagine Pele or Maradona asking for a lot of money, as they are the most famous -- but -- what about other players like: Romario, Roberto Baggio, Zinedine Zidane, Carlos Valderrama, Ruud Gullit, Fernando Hierro, Dennis Bergkamp, Van Basten, Gabriel Batistuta, Matt Le Tissier, Roy Keane, Luis Figo, etc, etc.

I don't see why it would be such a big deal, I certainly don't see why it would be expensive; I mean, we already have a lot of great players in PES,

So I really do not see how adding a small number of classic players into the game would be anything expensive, it should be very cheap,

I don't think it is a question of money, I think it has more to do with Konami being LAZY and not taking the time to work on the details of the game -- proof of this is the fact that the PS2 versions of the game have a better Edit Mode than the PS3 versions of PES,

It's not because of the money, it has a lot more to do with the lack of interest that Konami have shown in this area; they really do not seem to care about the game as much as they did five years ago,

The attention to detail has gone missing...

If you scored a lot of long-rangers with one individual, and you "unlocked" a true-to-life representation of Matt Le Tissier -- it would be better than "unlocking" nothing,

If you scored over 100 goals with one individual in the Italian Serie A, and you unlocked a spot-on representation of Roberto Baggio -- that's attention to detail,

On the other hand, when you win a lot of titles and all you get to "unlock" are classic players with generic faces, random names, and inaccurate stats -- that's just lazy,

Anyways,

Thinking about Konami, you mentioned that:

-------------------------------------------------------
"I like the ideas, but the first one is not easy, as having right names and faces requires licenses, and if Konami can't have a lot of licenses for current players, they wouldn't bother paying for classic ones."
--------------------------------------------------------

I have to say that -- "current players" -- all the important "current players" have their real faces and their real names...

It's not a question of money, it's just that Konami doesn't waste time on "current players" that are not famous...

But like I said, thinking about Konami instead of thinking about PES,

It really does not contributes to anything, as a matter of fact, you are just giving Konami a valid excuse for their lack of improvements... And I don't mean to be offensive or anything of the sort, but really,

Instead of wasting your time thinking about Konami -- if -- you are interested in the first idea, about the classic players, why don't you just post the names of the players that you would like to see in PES 2011?

This is an area of the game that we can actually affect, instead of wasting our time making up excuses for Konami or thinking about Konami, we should make better use of the little power that we have,
------------------------------------------------------------

I think you didn't understand me completely. I LOVE calssic players too. In PES 2009, I started a ML with a Classic Dream Team, but the faces were crap, of course.

I would love to see right faces for the classic players, I just can't see Konami bothering with it. They are lazy, yes, but if they at least included a good edit more of plenty of options to us, the classic players didn't need to be licensed.

Well, I play on the PC, so there are facemakers that solve this problem. Romário, Pelé and Maradona have very good faces made by them. But I guess you play in the Xbox, so you don't have the same luck as me.

My passion IS editing the game. On PES 2009, I spent more than 300 hours editing it. So if they improve this more, I'll be more than happy.

All your ideas are awesome, and can be implemented. I hope Konami reads this post, and at least TRY to add these suggestions.

I understand your point, and I think we have a very similar opinion regarding this aspect of the game,

However, my point is very simple -- implementing some 10 or 20 Classic Players with their real names and faces -- is not expensive and is not hard to do,

The only classic players that could be expensive, of course, would be Maradona and Pele; but ignoring those two, Konami has a lot of cheap options,

This is the 1st time we have a somewhat "official" communication with Konami, they are listening to us,

You use the PC and thus this may not be a problem for you, but I'm sure you understand why I'm doing this small effort -- hopefully-- Konami will listen and respond,

As for "facemakers" -- I don't want to sound like an asshole, but in my opinion Konami makes the best faces,

This is why I would prefer to have Classic Players with genuine Konami-made faces,

The only reason I ever bothered using the Face Editor was because I wanted to create Classic Players; if Classic Players have their real faces and names -- then I would probably never use the Face Editor,

That said, I do want a massively improved Kit Editor, no license in the world can replace the kit editor,

PS -- do you know where I can find STATS for Classic Players?

Yes, I also hope Konami listen to us, as these are things relatively easy to apply.

For classic players stats, you should visit www.pesstatsdatabase.com. They have over 2500 classic players' stats, but you might not agree with their evaluation of Valderrama

My evaluation of Valderrama is a lot more accurate and realistic... I know that because I have seen a lot of matches of Valderrama and I know how unique he was,

He was a hugely flawed footballer, but his passing and his dribbling and his off-the-ball movement was of the best quality -- since he retired, Colombia has not played in a World Cup,

The STATS that I gave for Valderrama are accurate, just try it in-game; he was very similar to Xavi Hernandez,

Most people only remember the 32-year-old Valderrama, he played his best football between 1986-1990,

Anyways, take a look at these pictures:

http://www.otakunodenki.co.uk/valderrama.jpg

http://image.com.com/gamespot/images...5995_front.jpg

From cover-boy to name-less and face-less, a lot of years have passed,

Do you have any favorites?

My favorite is the one in your signature. Greatest player to never win a World Cup.

Well, about Valderrama, I think you overrated him there; with these Passing stats he's the best of all time, and we know he wasn't better than Xavi. But I also think that PSD's Valderrama is underrated.

Well, about Valderrama, I think you overrated him there; with these Passing stats he's the best of all time, and we know he wasn't better than Xavi. But I also think that PSD's Valderrama is underrated.
If you play with the "overrated" Valderrama in-game, you will see that I did not overrated him... you can protect the ball from the opponent but you cannot dribble past opponents because of his lack of Acceleration,

Before judging, I think you should give it a try first, he is not close to being the "best of all time" -- he is slow and doesn't score goals,

He has an overall ability of "85" -- whereas on the other hand, Xavi Hernandez has an overall ability of "90+" -- I never said nor suggested that Valderrama was better than Xavi, I only said that he was very similar,

Like I said before, I believe most people only remember the old Valderrama that played at the 1998 World Cup,

Back in 1988 he stunned England, in the 1990 World Cup he surprised West Germany; and always dominated against Argentina.

Valderrama is underrated, and unlike Xavi, he was not surrounded by players like Leo Messi and Andres Iniesta,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OwlwVEhS3DY

I found a video-clip in YouTube, it's not that impressive, but you will find a few plays that are really difficult to pull-off,

As for Johan Cruyff,

He was awesome, but he will never lend his image for a video game, he hates video games, he hates that sort of technology,

This is my reason for not mentioning him in this thread, because what's the point? great player, but will never make it into a video game,

Joey Tribbiani has stepped out of the darkness into slightly less darkness

While PES may struggle to aquire the licenses of players like Pele, Maradona, Cruyff (do FIFA have exclusive rights to these players?) etc, I don't understand as to why 90's/00's players such as Valderrama, Zidane, Figo, Baggio, Hierro, Shearer couldn't be included with correct names and attributes as a lot of them were included in previous editions of PES.

Why did Zidane all of a sudden change into Ziran, the year after he retired? Why did Shearer turn into Shirare? They could have just been kept at their peak stats and included in the new edition!

I too love playing as a classic team or as classic players, however greater uniqueness should be added (that goes for present players as well). The classic teams should play as they did in their time period. Italy '82 should play catenaccio, holding teams off before hitting them on the break, Hungary of the 50's should play fluid, short passing football, Holland of the 70's should play Total Football etc. How good would it be to see how the great 1970 Brazil World Cup winning team would compare to todays' Barcelona?

Why leave it at National teams? Imagine re-creating the 1999 Champions League final, Real Madrid of the 90's, the Liverpool teams of the 1980's, Derby of the 70's (well maybe not that last one).

It would be brilliant to be able to play as all these classic players and teams, fully licensed, player uniqueness modelled spot on, even playing in stadiums as they were back in the day - terraces, maybe even play in black and white for some of the teams from the 50's and 60's, and earlier, old style commentary, goalkeeper able to bounce the ball around the area for 5 minutes, heavy balls, 80's short shorts....

Classic teams are a key part of football, and part of why I love football is watching the old games, to see how different the sport was back in the days. If PES could expand on the classic teams and players element then it would certainly make the experience more enjoyable for me.

Excellent points my friend,

Classic Players with their real faces and names would definitely add something to the overall package of the game,

As far as I know, EA Sports doesn't has neither Pele or Maradona or Cruyff, in their Classic XI Team,

The most famous names in FIFA's Classic XI Team: Zico, Franco Baresi, Franz Beckenbauer, Eric Cantona, Hugo Sanchez, and many others that I don't remember at the moment,

Though EA Sports did mentioned that they will continue adding and adding more Classic Players over the years, so perhaps one of those three (Pele, Maradona, Cruyff) will be featured in FIFA 2011 -- who knows,

But like you said,

There are a lot of other more realistic options such as: Romario, Roberto Baggio, Zinedine Zidane, Carlos Valderrama, Fernando Hierro, Paolo Maldini, Tony Adams, Jaap Stam, Matt Le Tissier, Dennis Bergkamp, Luis Figo, Rivaldo, Cafu, Gabriel Batistuta, Alan Shearer, Roy Keane, Marco Van Basten, Ruud Gullit, etc, etc.

A lot of them featured on past PES games, Valderrama even featured on the cover of ISS'98, why not include them in PES 2011 as "hidden" players or as players you can buy at the "PES Shop",

As for Classic Teams,

Classic Teams would be awesome, but to be honest, I would be pleased if at least we had some 10 or 20 Classic Players with their real faces and names...

At least including the key players with their real faces and names, so you can have a Classic France Team with lots of generic faces and random names; but at least Zinedine Zidane would look genuine, with his real face and name, wearing the no. 10 shirt,

I have mentioned, four classic players that I want to see in PES 2011 -- I even posted the STATS, the CARDS, and the PICTURES for their faces -- I guess, it would make it a lot easier for Konami if we show them exactly what we want,

I mean, Zidane from 1998 is not the same thing as Zidane from 2006 -- so I think it would make it easier for Konami if we can post PICTURES of the player faces, so that Konami does not needs to go looking for anything,

If you have any player in particular, that you want to see in PES 2011 -- feel free to post pictures of the version you want to see in the game, the stats for the player would also be welcomed,

lehua768 is an unknown

f PES 2011 had "hidden" classic players who looked as good as Messi and the rest of the modern-day stars, that when they have the ball at their feet the commentators will say "Zidane with the ball" or "Baggio with the ball" -- this would give the user a small incentive after winning a title,

Some interesting quotes which have to do with the improvement of player individuality, and which also suggest that PES Productions has taken a look at superstars from past eras, such as Maradona, who played between 1982-1995.

---------------------------------------------------------
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/pr...ands-on?page=4
---------------------------------------------------------

Johnny Minkley:

''Seabass' team's passion for the beautiful game remains utterly undimmed. On my last night in Tokyo a few of us are taken out for drinks by senior members of the team. The language gap is unbridgeable for the most part; but in a wonderfully charming backstreet bar that might as well be (come to think of it, might actually be) someone's living room, at a table with a computer terminal, the exec producer beams with delight as he plays us YouTube highlights of great footballers: Zola, Ronaldo, Weah. Suddenly, we're all on the same page.''

----------------------------------------------------------

----------------------------------------------------------

Seabass: (1:58 -- 4:04)

''Moving along to the next presentation, it is about dribbling, I call them speed stars.''

''So, the scene that you saw is PES 2010, using Messi, in the previous PES series... he is actually performing the 16-directional movement with the R1 dash; so you see him dribbling very fast but only able to go in just 16 directions.''

''So in PES 2011, for the very unique people such as Messi, the R1 dash system or dribbling system has changed dramatically. So he is now able to kind of go in any direction, and also, you can see some of the small touches that he makes, just as in real life, he's very small but he kinda does this great zig-zag dribbling performance; but this can only be performed by only certain players.''

''Now, I think, I'm kind of satisfied that I can represent the superb movements of Messi, and also, you know, I've been always watching the superstars, like the movements of Maradona... and this was never implemented well in our games... So this time, the dribbling system and freedom of moving anywhere, I was able to probably, reproduce these special talented players dribbling movements.''

prorevo: Actual, you can choose from 2 different jerseys. The home- and the away-kit. Are there plans to include the third-kit also in PES 2011 if possible?

Jon Murphy: Not possible right now. Seems very simple but actually requires some fundamental reprogramming which we don’t have time for this year.
---------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------

If Konami indeed looks at these boards, then I would like to ask a simple question, I'm hoping Jon Murphy or someone else involved with Konami can answer my question, I have divided my question into four parts,

Question: face editing is harder to do when compared with kit editing. For example, back in the PS2 days, with PES6, I could create kits or uniforms that would look almost as good as a genuine Konami-made uniform; on the other hand, with face editing it was not the same thing, no matter how hard I tried, using all the tools available, etc; I could not create photo-realistic representations of footballing heroes like Diego Maradona, Pele, Roberto Baggio, etc, etc.

Question: EA Sports has included a Classic XI Team into their game, the Classic XI Team has featured in FIFA for at least three years now; I know that licenses have always been an issue for Konami, however, even though some teams have random uniforms, the player faces have always been true-to-life.

Question: I know that PES has had ''hidden'' players for many years, and I have always followed the ''hidden'' players with great interest and attention, hoping that Konami would finally implement them properly: with their correct faces and names.

Question: Seabass himself mentioned the word ''Maradona'', the term ''Maradona'' is synonymous with Football, every nation has a footballing hero, every fan has a particular favorite... So my question is simple: with PES 2011, is PES Productions thinking about maybe implementing a small number of famous classic players with their real names and faces?
